I negotiated the price of a new Toyota Tacoma with this dealership over the phone while I was in California. After we agreed on the price, they asked me to put down a deposit of over $15,000. Since I had never seen or test-driven the truck, I asked if I could leave a $500-$1,000 deposit to hold it for five days instead. They refused. The next day, I agreed to pay the full deposit they requested. However, instead of honoring the agreed price, they changed the contract and increased the selling price before they would sell me the truck. That completely destroyed my trust in this dealership. After reading other reviews, I found that some out-of-state customers had similar experiences, where deals changed or vehicles were sold to someone else, leaving customers with wasted travel or pressure to buy another vehicle. Fortunately, I decided not to move forward. I ended up purchasing a brand-new Tacoma from a dealership near my home in California. Even today, I can still see the same Tacoma I wanted listed for sale, which makes me question why they tried to change the deal after we had already agreed on a price. I appreciate that they eventually refunded my deposit, but the overall buying experience was disappointing. I would advise out-of-state buyers to get every detail in writing and be very cautious before sending a large deposit. read more

On Tuesday June 30, 2026 we went to Lithia Chevy GMC in Helena. We test drove three vehicles. We first drove a Ford F150. The salesman went to retrieve the vehicle, which took an amount of time far above normal, 10-15 minutes, but we didn't think anything of it. He returned with the vehicle running, we drove the vehicle and returned to the dealership lot. (Mistake number one, we didn't turn off the truck and start it again during the test drive) After driving the two other trucks we chose make an offer on the Ford F150. Upon purchasing the vehicle my wife drove our car home and I went out to leave in the F150. It wouldn't start right away. I figured I was doing something wrong because I wasn't familiar with the vehicle. After taking the key out and putting it back in four to five times, switching the orientation of the key, trying both foot on gas or break, it finally started. (Mistake number two, I should have gone back into the dealership when the truck didn't start, but I thought it was just me not familiar with the vehicle). I drove the truck directly home Tuesday evening. When I went to use the truck on Thursday July 2nd, it wouldn't start. I tried replacing the battery in the key FOB with a new battery. It still wouldn't start, but eventually it did after a dozen attempts. After work on Thursday I drove back to Lithia Chevy and talked to the salesman. He tried to start the car and could not, but he offered no resolution I then drove to Helena Ford to see if they had any issues like this with an F150. I showed them that I can start the car remotely with my phone 100% of the time, so the issue has nothing to do with a bad battery or starter in the F150. They didn't take it in to the shop to inspect it, but they suspect it is a faulty immobilizer. While I can start the truck from my phone, the minute I put in the key to allow it to drive, it shuts off. Since this issue existed in the vehicle before it was sold to me, as evidence by the salesperson having trouble retrieving the vehicle, and my inability to start it in their lot after purchase, it is my belief they knew about the issue and sold it to me anyway. Friday morning July 3rd after a number of tries I got it started and drove back to Lithia to speak to a manager. I explained the issue and how I was sold a vehicle that won't reliably start, they claimed they knew nothing about it and were not going were not going to fix the vehicle or help me in any way. This isn't just about a vehicle not starting 80% of the time, it's a liability should it not start in an emergency. So, fair warning, Lithia will sell you a vehicle that has a defect at the time of sale, but will not stand behind their product. Formal complaints already filed with the Montana Office of Consumer Protection and with the Montana Motor Vehicle Division. read more

Are negative stars a thing? If so we need some for this "business". This place has a TERRIBLE reputation in Helena for a reason. Every time you have to deal with their service dept is like getting a root canal with no Novocain. My GF bought a car (from another dealership of course) and needed some work done on it under warranty. Every single time it was like we had to convince them to even look at it. They would take the car and the say "nothings wrong with it". Eventually I would have to get involved and explain what we were seeing with my personal scanner. They would take it back in and then say "your scanner isn't as good as ours so that's why you're seeing codes". Um...my $4000 snap-on is giving me bad info? Codes are codes Back and forth 7 times, and god forbid you ask for a loaner cause they need to keep the car for a week, it was crazy how hard she had to push to even get them to look at it or to get a loaner. They keep saying nothings wrong or we did this and that and "you're all set", and nothing ever got fixed. We got fed up and finally called Ressler motors in Bozeman. Holy hell what a difference! From the people on the phone to staff (more on that in a moment) I called Ressler and spoke to someone at length about what had happened and they said they thought they could get it fixed if we brought it in. Made the trip, was met with an outstanding staff, who got us booked in, and had a loaner warmed up and ready for us to take back to Helena with us, no hassles. They ended up keeping the car for almost 3 weeks and worked their tails off to make sure everything was working. They fixed the car and it's been awesome ever since. It's an absolute shame Lithia Helena is such trash they people have to drive 90 miles away just to get a warranty repaired. AVOID LITHIA HELENA!!!! read more

Never bringing my car here for service again. Paid a LOT of money for the 90k service and now the transmission in my Tahoe barely functions, slips going up any hills, lurches between gears. Asked to have engine block heater looked at or added if it was not there, they didn't bother with any of that. No attention to detail unfortunately. Well last year I bought a car for 35K from Lithia Chevrolet and paid extra for a trailer hitch. I needed the hitch because I was moving and wanted to tow some stuff up. So I took the car and drove down to the other state of Commiefornia, which I was escaping, and rented a uhaul trailer for our trip. When I attached the uhaul, the lights didn't work properly, and there was a question on whether their trailer, (which was old and beat up), whether it had good wiring, but it was the only one, so I just drove back to Montana with it, even though it no brake lights, or turn signals, or flashers, and not solid on lights. When I arrived I returned the trailer, somewhat forgot about the trailer issue, and went on with my life. A few months later, I bought a trailer for myself, and when I connected it up, there was the same problem! No turn signals or brake lights, only just solid lights. So I began to suspect that the brand new trailer hitch was to blame. Just in case however, I had my trailer rewired and replaced the entire harness. When I did that and then rechecked, it still wasn't working and so I knew it was the trailer hitch on my car. So I contacted Lithia Chevrolet Buick GMC and explained the problem, and although they said they could fix it, they also said that it had been just over one year, and so I'd have to pay! I scheduled the repair anyway, and thankfully after explaining everything and the circumstances that prevented me from understanding what the problem was, ultimately they stood behind their work and did NOT charge me for this repair. Thank you Travis, and the manager that made that decision. It's wonderful when companies stand behind their products and don't hide behind technicalities that miss the overall point of the entire thing. Good job! read more

Took my car in for an oil change. No issues at all other than an oil change. We picked it up and the A/C was blowing hot air....the same A/C that worked an hr prior to drop off. Upon driving it, the car began shaking like the tires they rotated were out of balance. Again, not an single issue prior. We immediately drove back to be given the run around and they stated they couldn't "diagnose" the issues until mid SEPTEMBER. Needless to say we will quickly be getting rid of our 2021 Traverse just so we no longer have to deal with Lithia. They have us over a barrel in this town and it's disgusting how we were treated....come to find out this is not the first oil change that resulted in cars being returned with additional issues. Burning smells, hard shifts in the transmission, etc. Had a diagnostic run at a different garage we trust because they couldn't fit us in for weeks. Diagnostic said they mustn't have even looked at the transmission fluid because it was black and should have been changed 30k miles ago. Took it back for service and was misquoted by $300. They tried to tell us they were the cheapest service in town, which is a lie because we had already been quoted by others for lower, they just couldn't get us in for another month. All I wanted was to get another one added since mine expires in June and wouldn't have a chance to use it now. And when I asked about it they refused to help, especially Brad the manager. I got a 15 point inspection and hand wash, and three drops of gas in the tank, 5 miles after buying, the service air bag light appears. This code was obviously cleared so they could sell it since it is a 3000 DOLLAR REPAIR. They refuse to do anything about it. Pay half, take the car back, nothing. My only issues with Lithia in Helena are with the service dept. I understand in today's world that quite often when a person calls on the phone that voice mail is the most common answer. Of the more than 20 times Iv'e called Lithia, Iv'e talked with a person exactly once. Inside the dept., employees give the impression that they are being bothered by one's presence, and it typically takes a few minutes to receive a welcome. These are seemingly small things, but are big to customers who invest a lot of money into vehicles. This is a management issue, hopefully management can relay the importance of answering the phone, even if the person is asked to wait, and welcome everyone when they arrive and relate to the customer that they will be with them asap to take care of them. read more

I'm I've been waiting OVER 4 hours. They list the keys. My time can be wasted but they can't get a replacement key made. Manager refused, REFUSED to refund my money or give me his name. Shyster, shady, crooked, and a little crazy. We went in February to see what they had available, we were looking for slightly used. We were completely upfront about what we wanted, and told them ahead of time we wanted to trade our car, which was probably our first mistake. We drove the slightly used, came back, and our salesman was gone. New salesman came up and put us in a new Buick that was roughly the same money with all the dumb dealer's incentives, so we thought we'd try to make the numbers work. Salesman presented us with an offer, including an extended warranty that was WAAY out of line. We asked why so much and what did it cover? Salesman couldn't tell us and left to go get the "finance manager". We told him to make it quick, cause we'd already been there 2 hours getting batted back and forth between salesmen and had other things to do. Finance guy came and told us it was a "Blanket warranty". I asked "what does that mean? How long are we covered and for what?" He kept repeating "blanket warranty" until I finally asked "Ok, is this for 100 miles and 100 dollars or 5 million miles and 5 million dollars?" and he got frustrated that he was being called on his game (basically, the extended warranty was the exact amount of our trade) and he stomped off. We grabbed our key to our car and left. "Finance manager" chased us down the walkway (outside of the dealership mind you) and told us we were unreasonable and to never step foot on a Lithia property again. We said no problem and left. We wrote a comment about this on their "contact us" and within an hour, I was on the phone with Adam Miller, who said he was a manager (he couldn't say what kind, as apparently they have several managers even though an 8-year-old could throw a ball from one side to the other of the dealership) and was just shocked at what happened to us, wanted to make it right, how do we earn your business, will throw in $1000 discount, etc. Well, he emailed us a quote that was more than the original, then when questioned, he said he made a mistake and changed some numbers. At this point, the shade continued, so we declined in the best way you can decline a car dealer...we didn't respond. Fast forward, we are opening mail and thinking to ourselves "What is this from Mountain America Federal Credit Union in Utah?" It is paperwork explaining how they came to their decision on financing us for the car! We did not fill out an application, never signed anything. Highly illegal. They were just ticked off we wouldn't roll over and take their garbage. How did they get our info you ask? We bought a car from Lithia Dodge several years ago, that's how. They are all one big family and if they can use each other's contact info to screw their customers, they will. Run far and fast from Lithia anywhere. Lithia Chevy in Helena is crooked, but Lithia Dodge is just as crooked for allowing our information to be used for a credit check with zero authorization. I'd probably stay away from that credit union too, as they keep company with some pretty sketchy businesses. read more

Lithia's used car 60 day/3000 mile warranty is worthless. They refused to honor my 100% parts and labor warranty and charged me for the repair to my truck, which didn't fix the issue. Don't ever trust a Lithia dealership to honor their warranty. Go buy a car from someone else. read more

Lithia Chevrolet will not honor their promises and further, will not even bother to respond when asked about it. In February I bought a fairly expensive new vehicle from Lithia Chevrolet in Helena, Montana. As a part of the deal, they promised to obtain out of stock roof rack crossbars and install them. They failed to do so. I spent hours back at the dealership on March 9 and asked to see the General Manager but was not allowed to see him. They finally were able to find the part in the parts department. Then they balked at doing the installation. The sales manager told me he had $200.00 in the budget for installation of the crossbars and would cut me a check. I asked that the check be mailed. It never was. I wrote an email with an attached letter to the General Manager, Mr. Chad Netherly, that afternoon expressing my displeasure and asked that he please acknowledge receipt. Mr. Netherly neither acknowledged nor responded. I reprinted the letter and sent it to Mr. Netherly 10 days later. Again, Mr. Netherly neither acknowledged or responded in any way. Thirteen days later, I wrote a letter to the Chevrolet Customer Assistance Center and included my original letter to Mr. Netherly. In about a week, I received a phone call from Chevrolet to discuss the situation. They said they would contact the dealer and try to resolve the matter. Turns out, Mr. Netherly disagrees that he should make good on either of the promises made and further, has no explanation as to why he refuses to make any contact to make his position known or make any attempt to resolve the complaint. For these reasons, I will never again purchase a vehicle from Lithia Chevrolet in Helena and it will need to be an emergency situation for me to have any business with their parts or service departments. I sincerely hope no one else has this problem in the future. Lesson learned: do NOT accept any promise from these people without them putting it in writing, although I don't have a lot of confidence that even that would make much of a difference. read more

I found a good deal on a 2018 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali online. The price was under invoice and said "one at this price." I called fully expecting them to say that one was sold. I called and spoke to Nathan Cuddy. He was professional and right away told me he would get me the price shown. I called on Saturday and drove out Monday. I bought a used car from Lithia in Helena in November 2018 and have regretted it ever since. I foolishly bought an extra warranty which supposedly includes lifetime oil changes. Although I get my oil changed regularly, I have only taken the car to Lithia twice for an oil change because the people in the service department have not been helpful. I get no answer when I call to make an appointment. I tried making an appointment on line and when I went in, the rude receptionist said I had no appointment. When I showed her the email confirming the appointment she said it was a problem with the system. I just called again -- no answer even though they are supposed to be open now. I called Lithia Chevy about a week ago because I bought my SUV from them a year ago. I asked them about changing a headlight, the service department quoted me about $45 to change it and he explained what they had to do to change it. So I called around and didnt get very far and was thinking well I bought from them might as well take it to them. I went in and set up the appointment the gentleman I set my appointment up with was very nice. (I figured when I set it up I had already been quoted about what I was going to be paying) So I decided to do an oil change and have them change my back windshield wiper, which hadn't worked since I bought it a year ago. I dropped my car off and had asked for a shuttle, which the shuttle guy was very nice as well. But when I had given the guy at the desk my keys he goes "you know this is going to be about $90 for your head light, right?" I looked at him in shock?? and said I called you guys a week ago and was quoted $45 for labor plus the price of the bulb. He pretty much laughed in my face. And said the bulbs about $45...Well I was already running late, so in my head I was thinking screw it. Just change it. I picked up my car, and was charged $174.24. ($85) for the effing headlight, $60 for labor, and $25 for the bulb!! I'm just stunned that people who spend thousands of dollars here on vehicles don't even get a little bit of a loyalty discount or anything!? And I know this may be pocket change for some people but I budgeted the $45. And not even honoring it!? Wth. As for me unfortunately I will not be going here for service on my rig anymore. read more

Looking for an SUV, specifically, ​a used GMC Yukon XL. Found a 2011 on Craigslist and began an exchange with them yesterday. Claimed to be priced $700 below KBB. That was just the beginning of a bad experience. Wife and I decided, based on the pictures and discussions to make an offer. CarFax and Craiglist ads both said 'Excellent Condition' which the pictures backed up. Today we tentatively agreed to a deal. I was in Missoula, a couple of hours away from Helena. Cleaned out my car and we drove over looking forward to making a deal. That feeling lasted until we pulled in the driveway of the dealership. We were swarmed. There was​ salesman everywhere in matching jackets. They must have had batteries in their pockets they were so wired. Big celebration sale going on. I was literally met at the door of my car. I'm 71 years old and bought a lot of cars in my life. Never seen anything like this. I'd been talking on the phone with a lady, who was very nice, said to ask for her when I arrived. So I tell the dude standing tall outside my door. He takes me inside to 'meet' the lady I'd been talking with. Seems she was just a telephone salesperson. She said hi and disappeared leaving me with the battery powered guy. He promptly goes to 'bring up' the Yukon I went to see and comes back empty-handed​. Seems my 'excellent' condition Yukon had a dead battery. Eventually, ​he jump starts it, we go outside for our test drive and do a walk around. The paint is chipped and the car is dirty. Okay, it's​ Helena. Inside, the story declines even further. It's​ downright dirty and stained on the inside. My wife asks him if they detailed the car before today. He didn't know. Well, do you detail the cars at all? Turns out this guy was the only honest one we met. He was from Houston TX and worked for a 'marketing' company, as did everyone in the battery-powered​ jackets. They'd all been flown in for this 'big sales event'. He went with us on the test drive and couldn't​ even tell me how to get back to the dealership. He was a nice guy in the end, honest about his position there but knew nothing, zilch, about the car, the dealership or the deal. So, my wife and I cut our losses, got something to eat and rode back to Missoula and took a bath. That's how sleazy the whole thing felt. No one ever answered the phone and I left four messages. None of my calls were ever returned. I have plans to buy a new truck within the next six months. At least I know now where NOT to buy it. the engine service light came on and i had it looked at by this dealership on Apr 25, 2024. they said the code had something to do with the exhaust system. the dealership cleared the codes and reassured me that they would look at it again under warranty if the light came back on. On this same day, they changed the engine oil and, according the invoice, conducted a multi point inspection. the engine light came on and on May 21, 2024 the dealership checked the codes and told me it was the engine air filter, which is not covered by warranty. the dealership informed me that the cost of repair and replacement of the engine air filter would cost $477. i told them NOT to replace the air filter and to wait until i was present to inspect the air filter. upon inspecting the air filter, after removing the air filter cover and air filter, i found 2 dead mice carcass. I asked the service writer if the air filter was part of the multi point inspection and she said it was. I asked why this has not been found in the last 2 inspection, once in January 2024 and on April 25, 2024. she told me that maybe the service did not inspect the air filter. it was apparent that they did not check the air filter. i asked how much do i owe for the May 21st visit and it was $177 I paid the $177 under protest, i went to Auto Zone parts store, bought an new air filter for $26. I removed the negative battery cable to clear the check engine light. it has worked fine, the light has not come back on. $477 to replace a $26 engine air filter!!!!! read more

VERRY UNPROFESSIONAL!! I was currently in looking for a new vehicle. after speaking to a sales guy on the phone about specific vehicles he was supposed to call me back. He failed to do this not only once but three times. He also never answered his phone when I was calling. Even after this I still decided to test drive a vehicle. When I showed up a gentleman named cooper was very helpful he showed a few to me. He was very honest and ready to help do anything. After deciding to purchase a vehicle we found out that the other guy we originally spoke to was getting half of the sale. Very disappointed I called in to speak with the sales manager. I expressed my feelings towards this and explained what happened. The manager basically laughed at me and said to kick rocks if I felt this way. I as well work in sales. I would always split a sale if the other person even as much as lifted a finger to help. This guy did not. He happen to answer the phone that's it!!!! Chevrolet of Helena has been a fantastic experience for several years for me with consistency and trust. I have purchased multiple vehicles and use the service department for all oil changes and any other scheduled maintenance. The last three vehicle purchases have been smooth and seamless with no pressure from the sales staff or managers. Schaefer stayed late and worked very hard to find me the exact pickup I was looking for down to the last detail. After the vehicle arrived on transport late at night, frozen and covered in snow, Schafer and Ron Bolan made sure the vehicle was promptly cleaned set up and all accessories installed to meet a schedule of mine. Poor customer service in service dept. They struggle with honoring warranties. In addition i was going to buy a car from them a few months ago. We settled on a price and in the time it took me to run home fir my checkbook. They rasised the price 2000.00. They acknowledged it was poor service and stuck to the new elevated price. read more

Was discussing trading in the 2010 Yukon Xlt with Travis. Travis said that on trade in the most I would get on trade in was $9000, and even less if they just bought it outright. I am confused how a vehicle Lithia Chevrolet sold me a year ago could decrease over $10000 in value in a year ( purchased in March 2017 for about $16k). There's nothing wrong with the vehicle. Only things at issue: it needs a good detail, wash, wax and buff; it needs a new set of tires and has two rock chips in the windshield...not cracks, chips! I put 5k or less miles on the vehicle in the last year. read more

Crooks. Watch out for these people. I just found out that the truck they sold me was involved in a massive wreck and the airbags deployed. Had I known this I would have never bought it. I will buy from a lithia dealer ever again. read more
