The lobby had an interesting fountain surrounded by pieces of artwork, and a very large wall decorated with huge paper-like flowers. It would make a nice backdrop for pictures if you were so inclined. We made a reservation for 9:30 a.m. to try their early bird promotion of ordering any size dish (small, medium and large) for the price of $3.50 each (weekdays only). I'm not sure if it was just a quiet week, but there was only one person when we arrived. I was able to snap pictures and pick a table, any table! The dining room took me by surprise. The tables and chairs were draped with cream and gold colored linen, and the stage area was completely adorned floor to ceiling with more of the ginormous paper-like flowers, strands of crystal and upon closer look, the purple and pink fluorescent lights seem to be coming from spotlights. I liked how the ceiling was completely draped in silver colored shimmery fabric. I would describe the stage as being very dramatic and sparkly ...lol Tip #1: It is quite dim inside and my better half had to use a flashlight/magnifier from his phone to take a look at the menu ... guess he doesn't have 20/20 vision as he claims! The service was friendly and efficient, and not as rushed or impersonal as other places we've dined at. The food came quickly but not all at once, and we appreciated the flow as we ordered quite a bit. The presentation of the dishes was quite nice. The dishes we ordered tasted similar and comparable to other establishments. * Chiu Chow Dumplings * Cuttlefish in Curry Sauce * Chicken Feet in Special Sauce * Beef Tripe with Ginger & Green Onion * Rice Roll with Fish & Cilantro * Chicken Pie in Portuguese Sauce * Spring Roll with Shredded Chicken & Taro * Deep Fried Taro Dumpling * Pan Fried Dumpling with Chives * Puff with BBQ Pork A few dishes were truly a miss: * Bovine Tendons - this is one of my favorite dim sum items and I was looking forward to trying it. The tendons were very hard and chewy, and most definitely not simmered enough. My mother-in-law said to take it home and simmer it again ...lol * Sticky Rice with Preserved Meat & Dried Shredded Pork - the rice was al dente and quite bland * Baked Sago with Egg Pudding - one of my favorite desserts and the size of the bowl was quite misleading. I've always been able to share this dessert, but it turned out to be very shallow with just a few spoonfuls! My mother-in-law doesn't eat desserts, and my better half said to enjoy ...lol Overall, our dim sum was good and we enjoy trying new places. There are more items on the menu that are worth trying as well, so you will definitely find some of your tried and true, along with uniquely different dishes. I can't say that it was the best dim sum but it was very tasty. I also liked the fact that there were a few dishes that were either new or prepared in a different way like the dumpling in soup, deep fried shrimp balls, and seaweed fish sticks. I originally ordered 3 dumplings in soup but the server recommended for us to change it to 1 order. She told us that one is pretty big and there would be enough for the 5 of us to share. I didn't really believe her so I just changed to 2. I was so wrong....this dumpling was huge! We were so stuffed after sharing the dumplings. I would recommend ordering one as well if you want to try other dishes or order less. The fish sticks looked like Japanese maki rolls but with cooked fish paste....interesting but I probably wouldn't order it again. The food was a bit pricey on the weekends. The main banquet room, with the head table, dining tables, and dance floor, was very spacious and beautifully decorated, with intimate lighting. Our meal was very good, maybe even excellent! We started with soup and salad, both served tableside. The main course had a properly cooked piece of salmon, a very tender steak, potatoes, and veggies. Dessert was chocolate mousse tart and creme brulee, served alternately. Other than the dessert being a tad sweet for my taste, the food quality was good. Parkview Manor, like every other banquet hall, has a fairly boring exterior, but the inside is clean and well-presented with your typical banquet hall decor and chandeliers. TONS of parking, which is an advantage of being in a bland commercial area. The building is split into two areas so it's highly possible there are multiple events happening at the same time. Food, of course, is the number 1 priority as a wedding guest. As stated up front, the entree was bad. Really bad. The filet mignon was tough like leftover meat from boiled stew. The chicken, already expected to be underwhelming at a banquet hall, was especially bland. I suppose that's the risk of a 2-meat plate. But everything else made up for it, I think. The antipasto was plentiful and delicious, especially the smoked salmon and the giant parmesan cheese wheel. The dessert was a wonderful creme brulee. The oysters at the oyster bar were fresh and shucked before your eyes. Even the sweets table had some tasty cakes. Servers were quick and unnoticeable, which is a mark of a good banquet hall server. You don't want plates clanging against each other during a speech. The bottom line is I had a wonderful time here as a guest; food, service, and coordination being a huge part of that. There is a great view of the city from their brand new space on the 16th floor, and while the ceilings are on the lower, it suits the decor of the space. They don't just have large conference spaces, but smaller ones as well. They can easily host a reception of 400, but also a meeting of 20 - which is really key for a space like theirs, especially in their financial district location. If you're looking for this kind of space, you definitely won't be disappointed with St. Andrew's Club!

The meal was wonderful and the servers very responsive to what was needed at the table. If this meal is any indication of the quality of food served there I certainly would be happy coming back. The building is old but well maintained and has had some updating with a new restraint on the third floor. The National Club is charming and reminds me of the stories I heard from my grandparents growing up in the early 1920's and the private club experiences. I will be back the next time I am in Toronto hopefully as a member.
