My new go-to florist. I had been using another top-rated florist who does a fabulous job. My daughter is friends with the owner of Little Acre, so we started trying them. Wow! My spouse always liked what I had been buying for her (ok, how many times does a wife say 'ooh, these flowers are ok, couldn't you have done better?' That would be so disheartening!). But when we tried Little Acre, spouse totally loved them. Loved, loved loved! Little Acre's claim to fame is that they are DC's only 100% locally-sourcing florist. That means the flowers are fresh and seasonal. Locally-sourced arrangements are theoretically more sustainable, beautiful and fresh. You are specifically not getting the same old same old that other florists sell. That may be a positive or a negative, so introspection is in order. The same old is actually really nice! I can tell you that the flowers we get from Little Acre are different from other florists, and my spouse likes them better. Little Acre sources only from local farmers who provide fresh and distinctive varietals throughout the year. The arrangements always reflect the season and include only the highest quality and longest-lasting blooms. So in my little world, that's good! The flowers here are fresh, locally sourced, and rustically presented. They look like the type of bouquet you wish you could bring home if you were skipping through a lush garden with all the time in the world to hand pick the perfect bouquet. There aren't a ton of options, as it's seasonal and somewhat in the hands of Little Acre to put together the bouquet, but you're in good hands and I like that the bouquets look natural and less fussed over. The only one hiccup I had is that I ordered the flowers for delivery several days later as it was for a specific occasion, but Little Acre reached out to me the next day to say they had not been able to deliver on time due to a snowstorm, thinking it was a next day order. Meh. I wanted to send flowers for a birthday (I love sending flowers!) and was surprised that this is what $90 got me. Granted, I'm pickier than most - I've worked in 3 different flower shops and did wedding flowers - but I also like to think I know what I'm looking for. I scoured Yelp for DC flower shops that had pictures of thoughtful color combos, interesting flowers used or just creative forms (basically the opposite of FTD or the Safeway flower cooler). I realize that it's fall, so I didn't expect spring flowers. And I know shops budget differently (either per stem cost or by the bunch, plus wholesale cost of a vase) but the bouquet size difference, chaotic form and totally random color combo is so different than what was shown online (and everyone else's comments!) that I was shocked when the recipient sent a picture. There are at least twice as many flower stems (not filler) online then what she received. Maybe because it's the week of Thanksgiving they're slammed? Or during COVID flowers are hard to get? Or just some random online order vs current clients? But here's the thing - there was no opportunity to personalize or get more info. The phone message refers clients to order online but the online form has no option to specify color, all questions or get any feedback at all. So, just bummed. It's not the ugliest, but it most definitely does not look like $90. Don't sign up for the subscription. I had received flowers from them for my anniversary that were lovely and I really agree with their general business goals. With that in mind, I decided to sign up for a weekly subscription which turned out to be a mistake. From the start, the quality was clearly inferior to the flowers I'd had before even though the price point was similar. I was willing to overlook this but then the quality declined further and I was receiving bouquets that were mostly greenery with fewer than the specified number of blooms. The flowers were also starting to last less than a week even though I change the water regularly. The final straw came this week when I again received a mostly greenery bouquet with too few blooms AND two of the flowers were either mangled and/or half dead.
