My boss buys everyone flowers from Nosegay, and always manages to give the most unique and colorful bouquets--flowers I cannot name like the green ones that look like delicate pom poms or the ones that look like testicles, but cool. They were recently having a sale on roses, and while roses aren't really my thing I decided to pop in anyway as I had never been myself, just gazed longingly at the flowers others were given. I told the florist that my favorite flower is a gerber daisy and that I just wanted something small for myself, around 3 flowers. I was honestly kind of expecting those three flowers by themselves, and while that would have been cheery and beautiful, what she pulled together was a gorgeous mix of gerbers and fillers--and a couple of roses!--and it was just perfect, really. I appreciated that she didn't try to up-sell me, that she was kind about my buying myself flowers to brighten my own day. I would highly highly recommend them for any kind of flowers--from an impromtu treatyoself day to weddings--because if they're this over-the-top helpful and amazing with a drop-in, you know they'll go the extra mile for a really important event. read more

The staff was very responsive and super helpful from my first point of contact a few months prior to our dinner event. Received flowers right after the V-day rush and I swear they gave me remnants of the big day. Let me be clear, this bouquet was not meant to be V-day flowers but for another occasion that followed right after V-day. The flowers were delivered to my building in the morning and I picked them up a few hours later. The water in the vase reeked as if the flowers had been sitting in it for several days. I couldn't even enjoy the smell of the flowers but the arrangement was nice and the appearance was full. By the next morning I had to change the water in the vase because the smell was overpowering my apartment. I trimmed some of the stems and as I was going through the arrangement I saw that a number of flowers in the bouquet did not have stems and were basically just heads that had been used to make the arrangement look fuller. Mainly they consisted of white lillies (which I love) and pink rose which I couldn't smell at all... This would explain why. Also, the cheaper filler flowers were all dying or dead. You have to remove dying or dead flowers from a bouquet asap because they release a gas that speeds up the decay of surrounding flowers. They should never have been put in the bouquet. Really disappointed with this bouquet which is weird because I've received flowers from this shop before and they were lovely in the past. Perhaps they had a limited inventory because of the Valentine's day rush but still ... These specific flowers were not requested so the florist should have used what looked the nicest and what was in stock instead of cobbling together this ... I don't even know what to call this. 4.5 stars. This is my first Yelp review of a florist. Since I am not a flower person, I have never really paid attention about choosing a good florist. I thought they were all the same. Totally wrong! Last week I had the needs to send flowers to someone for business with a rather limited budget. I walked over to the one at L and 17th and went inside the store. They were playing WTOP radio and no one came out. They did not really have nice flower displays either. I did not feel right about using such store for this important occasion. So I left the store, turned on my Yelp app, searched nearby florists and I found Nosegay with average of 4.5 stars from forty some reviews, much better ratings and reviews than the one I went in few seconds ago. When I got to Nosegay after walking a few more blocks in the heat, a lovely young lady came out from the back and welcomed me. What a contrast! I told her I came here seeing good reviews on Yelp, and gave her my limited budget and explained the purpose or occasion. Although (I found out later in their website) my budget was a little low for the flower shop, The staff, Alisa did not make any difficult face and dealt with my request very professionally and smoothly. I did not get to see the flowers, but my business associate emailed me the next day and said, "The flowers are absolutely beautiful!" So, that's my story and I will definitely go back to Nosegay, and now that I am more interested in flowers, I may become a flower person in the future too! read more

I walked over around lunch time and let the lady up front, Candice, know that I wanted to get a floral arrangement for my sister's graduation. I am not knowledgeable about flowers, but I wanted her to have roses in her graduation photos with family and friends. Candice dropped everything she was doing and helped me out. She was great to work with! She recommended yellow roses, which I loved, and included other bright flowers to compliment the bouquet. I was in and out in ten minutes! If you have a few moments, I'll make it worth your while. ;) I have never placed an order with them, but my boyfriend did, for our first Valentine's day together. He had ordered flowers for family members before, but never for a girlfriend (TOLD you I make it worth your while). Understandably, he was nervous about it, especially after looking through my flickr photos and seeing a stream of big bouquets from past flames. Hmmm. **Note to self: delete lots of old pics on flickr.** You know while we're at it, you might want to delete some pics, too. You know which ones. You cheeky monkey! Anyway, so while I caught him looking at ancient photographs of dozens of red roses, predictably arranged with baby's breath and other crap, I assured him that a) he really didn't need to do anything, he was enough of a gift himself b) most, if not all of those bouquets were forgettable, so even if he did feel like wasting money, I was 100% certain that whatever he chose would be exceptional. He looked a bit relieved and told me that maybe he'd ditch the flower thing all together. I was like, whatever man, I'm broke, so I'm giving you something which I can't describe on Yelp. ;) Fast forward to February 14. It's EARLY. Like, way too early. The doorbell rings. He paused (that's how well I know him. I know he paused). "I'm not sure. I just know that she loves hydrangeas, because she used to buy them from the farmer's market every week and that she was sad yesterday when her orchid plant died. Do those go together?" They assured him that they most certainly did, and that they would put together something lovely. Well you know what? I pride myself on having a great "eye", but I'm going to give it up to Nosegay-- they were right. After my initial skepticism, the more I looked at this arrangement, the more stunning it seemed. It was daring, inventive, unique...exactly what I like. My bf was elated at how I kept looking at them, throughout the day. Fast forward two days. My hydrangeas were DYING. I was shocked. My bf was glum. "I got you bad flowers..." he said. "Don't worry," I told him. "I'll take them out-- the orchids are still gorgeous." Instead of doing that, I called Nosegay after he left for work and apprised them of the situation. The person I spoke to asked if I had done x, y, z and I assured them I had, that I always buy hydrangeas and know how to keep them. I started to think that I wasn't going to get very far...then he said, "You know what? It doesn't matter. Those hydrangeas should have lasted at least a few more days. I'm going to replace them for you. Your bouquet should be perfect and we want you to be happy. What color would you like?" I was shocked. I told them to surprise me, since they were THAT good. The next day, giant white hydrangeas were delivered to my door. They were the most beautiful examples of the flower I had ever seen. When my bf came home, I told him everything I just told you. He was impressed, and you should be too. Outstanding customer service, true creativity and I haven't even told you about the best part of it all. Those "four-day" hydrangeas lasted for eight. As for the Orchids? They are STILL on my dresser, over A MONTH LATER. Two of the stalks are still flowering. Can you believe that? Really high quality flowers, very nice people, a solid inventory and very reasonable prices. Minus one star for failing to enter my Valentine's day order for a dozen red roses (i.e., THEY LOST MY ORDER FOR VALENTINES DAY) despite the fact that I spoke with them twice about it beforehand. They did have the flowers necessary to fill the order, admitted fault and were very apologetic. However, I do feel like it was close to disaster. Despite this, I will definitely be back. UPDATE: I ordered flowers from them to be picked up on Saturday. They CLOSED EARLY. i just received an email from their manager who said he told me that they were closing early and that he forgot to ask me for my phone number, otherwise he would have called to remind me that they were closing early. i do not recall him telling me this and, frankly, i believe i would have if he had told me they were closing at noon because it would have been tremendously inconvenient for me. he did offer to give me my next order for free. although his offer was a nice touch, this is two orders out of two i've had a problem with, and this time their mishap really put me in a bad spot, so i kinda doubt i'll be back. read more

Don't go here for your balloon needs. I wanted to have obnoxious balloons for my husband's 30th birthday (two gold 40-inch 3 and 0), so I called here to see if they had such a thing. They didn't, so I asked how much it would cost to inflate them if I brought in my own. They answered $5 a balloon. (Seems high for a little helium, but I guess this is DC!) I found the exact balloons I wanted on Amazon and took them into Nosegay on my way to my husband's surprise party. They then tell me that because of the balloon's size, it will cost $10 each to inflate. FALSE ADVERTISING and more importantly, $20 for helium?!? I was running late, so I accept to pay this ridiculous amount. The guy takes my balloon packages into the back to be filled and brings them back... barely inflated. I ask if he can fill it more and he says it will be okay. The balloons were deflated by the end of the party. $20 for barely any helium. I can't attest to their flowers, but I'm not impressed enough to come back to try. read more

So this is literally my first time ever "yelping" - interpret that as you wish but I think it says something that I took the time to sign-up for yelp in order to write a review for Nosegay Flower Shop: 1. I ordered via a Skype call from out of the country and I've never been to the DC, but the order went as smoothly as if I had been there in person and took no more than 5 minutes ring to click. 2. The woman who helped me was attentive, patient, and didn't forget a single thing. I told her that I trusted her taste and told her to run with something seasonal, fragrant, and fun. She asked the right questions about my girlfriend's work and the occasion to get a feel for what was best. Then she wrote the note exactly how I wanted it punctuated and everything. 3. They delivered the flowers to my girlfriend's desk 1 hour later. 4. I paid $58 bucks including delivery and tax. (I personally appreciate details like price in the reviews I read - I hope it helps). I used to respect this flower shop because their online designs were great and their customer service was good the one time I used them. So I considered myself a return customer today when I ordered a "petite, compact arrangement of wildflowers that is easy to transport and compact like the 'Evergreen' option on the website, featuring white daisies." I didn't balk at the $75 charge they quoted me. After the bouquet arrived and my sister sent me a photo, I challenged them on charging me me too much for a disappointing arrangement. They informed me the only solution was to go back to my recipient and TAKE THEM AWAY FROM HER. Haha! And in order to give her something else in return, they'd charge me extra for delivering a satisfactory bouquet! I spent $75 today to get a basic arrangement that, in my experience in the industry, cost about $40, and came in one of those cheesy vases the crappy online florists mail for free. And the only solution they offered, after arguing with me, was to take away my sister's flowers! I'd be even angrier if I wasn't so entertained by Nosegay's ridiculous solution to their mistake and poor judgement. I sent them a photo and in the end, they stood by the "designer" and put the customer last. We had a rather small budget and the ladies at Nosegay did a terrific job with providing us with beautiful, interesting, innovative arrangements. They looked much more expensive than they were, which is always the goal! The two women helping us (I wish I remembered their names) were obviously very familiar with dealing with large scale events and knew the kind of arrangements that would work best, without making things look too cookie-cutter. The flowers were all delivered on time and they even put them on the the tables for us. As we were leaving the hotel, many guests stopped us and asked where we had ordered our flowers from. Order just what you see on the website and you'll be happy. I first made the mistake of going the "designers choice" route. It was the deal of the week--$65 value for $55 value. But everything they had on their site was on target with what I was thinking of so I thought I'd take advantage of the deal. The recipient thanked me for the beautiful flowers when they arrived. But when she sent me a picture I was very disappointed. First of all, it wasn't in a clear vase. (Purple!! Seriously?) Second, the arrangement was sparse and unimpressive with a bunch of *meh* flowers. I called to complain and the woman was very nice. She put me on hold while she talked to someone about what they could do. I told her I either wanted a refund or for them to just deliver the Evergreen bouquet from their site. I never had a go-to flower shop in the area, but I think I found one in Nosegay. Called here on a Wednesday afternoon to request a small centerpiece for my girlfriend's birthday dinner at Komi. I believe I spoke with a guy named Jay. All I told him was what it was for, that her favorite flowers were Peonies but I thought they weren't available, and she likes pink. I showed up at 3pm on Friday and was greeted with a perfect bouquet containing a beautiful assortment of gerber daisy, lily, rose, lilac (I think), and some others. The best part came later in the evening. I dropped them off at Komi so they would be on the table for our reservation. At dinner, every server came up and complimented my selection of flowers, which of course was all Nosegay's doing. Very disappointed by Nosegay Flowers. At the advice of an acquaintance, I made an exception from getting my flowers from two services that I have used in the past and loved, Urban Stems and Little Acres, to get a more "traditional" arrangement of sympathy flowers for a colleague on behalf of our office. I did not have a lot of time to work with--I called that morning to make sure they could make a delivery that afternoon in time for a memorial service that the colleague was hosting. I was happy to hear when they assured me that they could accommodate--the woman working in the shop even checked to make sure they had the right flowers--so I went ahead and placed the order. Four hours later, I get a message from one of the staff members saying that they ran out of white roses for the arrangement that morning and that I would either have to pick replacement flowers (which were considerably less elegant for the arrangement) or wait until the next day to see if they were back in stock. I was extremely disappointed considering: 1) the arrangement I chose was a generic, trademarked arrangement you can get from just about any outfitters, including Teleflora and Amazon.com (so much for your neighborhood florist) and 2) I had a window of time in which they needed to be delivered, and I had no time to cancel this order and make other arrangements by the time they informed me of this hours later. Feeling I had no other option, I decided to pick replacement flowers. I was upset that I had to inform my colleagues that instead of the arrangement a few of them picked out, we would be getting him a cheaper version, and upset that we were sending a cheap replacement to my bereaved colleague. Half star added because the staff I spoke with were relatively friendly and did offer a partial (15-20%) discount on my order--though not sure that even makes up for cost difference between the original and the replacement. read more

I explained the situation to the guy who was helping me, gave him a price range, and then went and got a not-so-tasty decaf mocha frappe from the coffee shop next door. We hired these folks to do some of the flowers for our wedding, and they were great. The shop owner, Jay, sat down with us and listened to everything we wanted, then offered his suggestions on "comparable" flowers that were slightly different, but would bring down the price. We also elected to buy the vases and silk flowers for our centerpieces wholesale through someone else, and Jay agreed to assemble them for a very small labor cost. No other shops were willing to do this for cheap. They really came through in the clutch for us, as we only initiated contact with them a couple months before our event. Everything was delivered exactly as promised and on time, the staff was professional, and the prices were very reasonable for DC; definitely the cheapest shop we found, and we got way more than we were expecting in terms of quality and professionalism. Appreciated the support i got here, especially since i was calling from down in TN. If on their website, you can click on the word "price" in the left-hand column and it'll show you options for "less than $35," but the woman answering the phone didn't realize that was the case. After walking her through how i found that option, she agreed to give me the arrangement that was listed under that for $35 (though it is a bit expensive from my point of view to not have anything in that range, which was the sense i go from her, in terms of what was generally the case for their pricing--that's too bad if so, and i encourage them to have at least a few in that range, as there are grandkids, students, and anyone else w/less money who still would like to be able to pass on some love w/some nice flowers--eh? :D). I have been the grateful recipient of gorgeous Nosegay flowers for 6 years but went to the shop for the first time last week. The talented florist created a work of art that would survive a 10 hour road trip and brought subtle fragrance to every room. As I looked around the shop, there were a dozen arrangements that I would love to receive. The flowers were lush, vibrant, fresh, unique -- just stunning.
