It's a strip mall that screams that it has a bar in it, yet there isn't one to be found... ...unless you look in the back. But why would you? From Oak it looks like a standard one-story strip mall with nothing behind it. But it turns out there's a sharp drop in the hill and there is indeed a lower level around back. Lost Bar is a small, dark, smokey dive -- exactly what you'd expect such a well-hidden place to be. There's pool tables, games, and a small stage. There seems to be a well-knit group of regulars. Our bartender was very friendly and pleasant. Beer was poured cold and at just the right price: cheap! I really enjoyed my visit here and will be back.

Our crew ranged, literally, from 6 years old to 60, and everyone had a really great time. The vibe is casual, with games that kept the younger kids occupied, and the environment allowed the adults to converse and catch up. The food was absolutely wonderful - everyone loved what they got, and were very satisfied. Mark, who helped us all evening long, was AMAZING - we had such a great time. And this is my life -- if I want to spend time with some of my best friends, who happen to be gay, I'm going to gay bars. And SideStreet is hands down the place where I feel the most welcome and comfortable as an ally. It's basically the closest thing to a laid-back dive bar you can get. Darts, pool, tunes. It's not overstimulating, it's not desperately trying to be a "scene," and it's not trying to be something it's not. It just is. And apparently that's a harder concept to nail than it should be. Byron behind the bar is genuinely one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet. The place is well-run, comfortable, and just feels like a good, proper establishment. The back patio is such a great space as well. The plants, the way it is spread out with little nooks to talk and have a heart-to-heart with a friend. I've been treated pretty poorly at other gay bars simply while trying to spend time with my friends, so I really can't say enough about SideStreet. I can come here, have a drink, hang out with the people I love, and not feel like I accidentally walked into a club where I need to submit an application explaining why I'm there. Good people. The "Smoking Permitted" sign on the door wasn't just for decoration--you could smell the nostalgia in the air, complete with ashtrays on the tables. Classic. We grabbed a spot at the bar, where March Madness was on TV and the drinks were ridiculously cheap. Mixed drinks were never more than $5.50, beers were ice-cold, and the bartender was an absolute pro at keeping them coming. If we didn't have more places to check out, we might have just stayed put all afternoon. Of course, we came back later that night and grabbed a table. 80s music was blasting from the jukebox, the drinks were still flowing, and the crowd was lively. It's got that small-town Cheers feel--locals walk in, and their drinks are ready before they even say a word. But even as newcomers, we felt totally at home, swapping stories and laughing with the regulars.
