Grabbed some carrot cake from here recently and it was pretty darn tasty. Since it's in the food hall, there are plenty of nearby seats to enjoy your food. It was a tiny bit expensive for the portion size, but nothing too outrageous. A lot of the other desserts looked really tasty as well. There was only one person working there but she was attentive and got us checked out quickly. I'd definitely come back here to grab a cookie or something else sweet! read more

I could have sworn I've written a Yelp review for Little Barb's before but maybe I haven't. At various times when we've popped into the Durham Food Hall, we've stopped here and gotten zucchini bread, cake slices, poptarts, cinnamon rolls and more. We enjoy supporting local businesses in Durham and have enjoyed the wares here. We've also seen their treats around town at other places like the Daily Beer Bar (monthly cake and beer pairing is wonderful). I saw someone else posted that the cake prices were high. They might be but the cake slices we've had were rich and delicious. We've also seen the owner at other events around town -- great to see that she supports other local businesses. I ordered a cake for my friends birthday. The inspiration pic I used was a cake that was actually made by Little Barbs and posted on their Ig. I figured, great! This is what I want and I can clearly see that they can deliver. The only modifications I asked for was that the cake was circle shaped and not heart, and that the color scheme was neutrals and earthy tones. Otherwise, I said I liked the green that was on the cake I saw on the inspo pic. When I saw the cake (unfortunately I wasn't the one to pick it up) I was pissed. The cake was definitely not as thoughtfully decorated as the inspo pic. Just 3 colors: shit green, shit brown and white (we didn't ask for white and unfortunately the white color takes over majority of the cake ). If I say I like the green on the pic that they made, I like neutrals and earth tones, don't you think maybe the green I asked for would be on the cake? Maybe some tans? Nope. They didnt even get the writing done properly. It's all uneven and just basic piping that one would do when they're just starting out. Also, out of our party of 6, no one was jumping up for another slice. Ultimately the cake (and cupcakes) went to waste. So unhappy with this purchase. read more

I ordered a cake for a "twinkle twinkle" themed baby shower, and little Barb's knocked it out of the park! The ordering process was easy. I was able to work with them to iron out details before placing the order. I provided the toppers. The cake was beautiful, and it was absolutely delicious. The flavor was vanilla with strawberry compote. The cake was moist and the icing was the perfect level of sweetness. I was anticipating leftovers as the cake was pretty big and my guests are not big on dessert. However, by the end of the party, there was only 1 piece left because it was such a hit! And to make things sweeter, the cake was very well priced compared to other local inquiries I made. They exceeded my expectations. read more

Wow--no idea how this place has five stars. Felt way overpriced, cake was no better than mediocre (stale?), and for 8.50 per slice, expected considerably better. Needed something sweet after guzzling down two slices of pizza at the food hall. I was eyeing their cake slice the entire time I was there, but was unsure about the lavender cake because I am a simple cake lover. The person who was working that day was so kind and talked me through each dessert. She also offered me a small taste test of the lavender piece to make my decision. I was immediately impressed. I ordered my cake slice and called the rest of my colleagues over and they made an order as well. I would definitely recommend this place. The cake was moist and the frosting was on point. Very annoyed. About to ruin someone's birthday because it's not what they ordered. Especially for a cake I paid 75 dollars for and no one was able to follow directions. I pretty much sent them a custom order cake form and also got a text message to reiterate what your forms says. The cake is all black and I wanted red lettering so it's easy to read what the cake says. I pick up the cake today and it's black lettering. ‍ I let the gal know and all she wanted to do was text the owner and pretty much said they left the red lettering out because sometimes what they use for red won't be readable but the black makes it worse you can't even read what the cakes says... if that was the case why did no one call me then and tell me the red that was not gunna work... I left pissed... because again I wanted red lettering. I text whoever I've been texting with and now the solution is I can bring the cake back after I got home in this heat with the cake already sweating saying they can put it in red. I'm not gunna drive back. The cake was already melting. Pretty sad because I'm disappointed. read more

While looking for a chocolate fudge pie for my husband's birthday, I came across Little Barb's. It said, "Chocolate Fudge Pie - $8.50". I felt that was a fair price for a pie and I ordered one online. When I went to pick it up, it was a little tartlet. When I asked about it, the cashier said they don't sell whole Chocolate Fudge Pies; just these tartlets. I think it would only be fair to indicate that these "pies" are just tartlets. I just checked the website and there is no Chocolate Fudge Pie on the menu as of now. Hmmmmm.... There was no offer to refund my money. Being in a bind, I ended up buying 3 more tartlets so everyone would have a dessert. $34 was WAY too much to pay for four little tartlets that were stale and dry. I will not be going back. read more

Sweet little bakery and great customer service, however I felt like I paid way too much for what I got. I got 2 pastries and paid around $15 for them. They were super small and kinda stale. The owner was super sweet and the girls working were very kind and attentive - maybe I went on a bad day? I'll give it another try because it looked like a place that would serve really good pastries but I was just disappointed with what I got. read more

Peanut butter tart was phenomenal but the other three desserts were a miss especially for the price. Ube desserts on any menu I see is an automatic must try but the cake was extremely dry and although the icing is delicious I didn't get much Ube flavor. On the other hand, the Fried Rice is yummy on its own or with the Mapo Tofu. Spring Rolls are a little oily to my liking but are a good vegetarian appetizer option. I will say that this place is always packed, even on weekdays and sometimes the wait staff forgets about you. It took several rounds to get them to take our order, give the food or even get the check at the end. I will try it out next time at lunch time because maybe it is a little faster. It's near the college and medical centers so I'm not sure how the parking is. For us, we walked. Location is clean, and the staff was nice. Experience: cookies are super expensive! They literally had menu items - 6 cookies for $26 plus tax! To me, that was disgusting. On top of it, all the cookies were nasty except for the confetti one which was delicious! I am not sure why companies are cutting corners with flavor and keeping the price sky high -but that's what the cookies are giving. For that, I have to give it 3 stars. I can make my own delicious tasting cookies at home so I will do that going forward!
