"Great milkshakes right behind the Durham Bulls stadium" Behind the Bulls stadium, next to Moe's, sits this little treat. We came on a Friday evening at around 7pm, and there was no line (though a few people came in right behind us). The place is bright and airy, with some seating, and a great counter showing a selection of chocolate treats and the menu of milkshakes. I was delighted that they had some dairy-free milkshakes, given my lactose intolerance! And 4 choices no less! They of course had fancier flavors in the dairy set, more complex than CookOut (which I love). My girlfriend and I got the lactose-free cookies and cream milkshake. They fixed it on the spot, so we got it in maybe 2 minutes. Service was friendly-- they were patient with the customers behind us who were a bit unruly (more playful unruly than rude). One word-- DELICIOUS. Not too sweet, but just right. I've had some weird dairy-free milkshakes with a grittiness or chalkiness, but this was straight-up like how I remember the real deal. It was thick too, and unlike CookOut, they gave you a thick straw so you can actually drink with it. Why 4 stars and not 5? The price was a bit steep. With a $1 tip, this one shake (which was reasonably sized but far from huge) was over $10. But for the quality and selection, I do think it's "not unreasonable". I've heard so many people raving about this place and had to check them out for myself. It's located downtown so parking can be tricky. Park in the garage and you will be fine! The staff aren't so friendly but it doesn't bother me. They have a lot of flavors to try from but almost everything includes some type of chocolate. We had strawberry cheesecake and raspberry cream. We wanted non-dairy and they had 4 options for milkshakes: chocolate, strawberry, cookies and cream, and peanut butter. I opted for the peanut butter add chocolate and it was delicious!!! Adorable store with lots to choose from. My son and I were visiting my other son at work and stopped in. I tried the banana cream pie milkshake, and it was amazing! These milkshakes are so great! We love to come here with the kids and then run around in the grassy area on the tobacco campus. My son's go to flavor is cookies n crème! Their menu is vast for milkshakes but they also have other desserts, such as Dubai chocolate! The only downside is trying to find parking during baseball season! Roads are closed off so we had to find a garage and walk. I later found out you can park in the closer tobacco campus garage and just let them know you are just getting a milkshake so they don't charge you..pro tip! read more

Ok, let's start with the good: it was very clean, it smells good when you walk in, and the staff was very nice! Would we come back? Probably not. We felt like it was overpriced milk. Our shakes were so liquified (and foamy at the top), and they tasted a little weird (almost like plastic?). The strawberries and cream also tasted a little strange. Our drinks were barely even cold, and were not thick at all like you would expect a milkshake to be. $10 for a small shake is outrageous in my opinion. There is hardly any seating, too. read more

Legit Milkshake shop in the tobacco road area. I had the cookie brownie fudge Milkshake which was delicious and well mixed (no straw clogging with huge cookie chunks). I love milk milkshakes and this place is in a great location and open late. I got the strawberry dipped chocolate and having a chocolate covered strawberry on top was the cherry on top! My least favorite thing about the milkshake was the small choco chips that were a bit too waxy and too many. I attended their official grand opening because I was interested to see new additions to the tobacco campus area and how that changes the dynamic of the food scene downtown. This place is a small franchise within a (slightly) larger chain originated out of Pittsburgh. Although relatively new (and certainly to the triangle) there is a fairly deep history written beneath Milkshake Factories incorporation which goes back to a family making chocolates since 1914. Ice cream is of a high quality but primarily this is a franchise that wants to be chocolate first, or at least chocolate equal with various types of chocolate bark, chocolate covered pretzels and others. They will give free chocolate samples if you are undecided. The milkshake selection is still impressive though with something for every member of your group including dairy free options that are legitimately thought out and dessert worthy instead of the typical afterthought dairy free options similar places can have I was told the cappuccino and dairy free was the only one to avoid. One of the signature milkshakes - Chocolate Dipped Strawberry is a great option for a flavor that doesn't get as much love as it should. They also offer several sundaes and a root beer float. All of these options elevate it into more dessert bar status instead of just Milkshakes like the name implies. Location is great for taking the kids over after a bulls game or stopping by after a show at the dpac. They are open late by the way, hours I got from the door at the time of me writing had them open until 12am on Friday and Saturday with 10pm every other day. Staff has been amazing so far and very helpful for people with questions about the menu or anything else. I have no reason to not recommend this to you when you are in downtown! I visited Durham and had a great time until I stopped at MilkShake Factory and ordered a NON-DAIRY strawberry milkshake. As someone who is lactose intolerant, I specifically ordered non-dairy for a reason. Unfortunately, within hours, I was practically living on the toilet. What followed was severe stomach cramps, explosive diarrhea, and constant emergency trips to the bathroom for most of the night and next day. Instead of spending quality time with my family and enjoying the city, I spent the night and day trapped between the bathroom and my bed, taking pills and hoping my stomach would settle down. As someone who is lactose intolerant, I specifically ordered non-dairy for a reason. Whether dairy was used by mistake, there was cross-contamination, or something else went wrong, that milkshake absolutely wrecked my digestive system. A milkshake should not turn a family trip into a 24-hour bathroom nightmare. Extremely disappointed. read more

The MilkShake Factory is such a fun spot to get a sweet, little treat in downtown Durham. This cute shop is located right down the street from the American Tobacco Campus, the Bulls park, and Durham Performing Arts Center, so it is very conveniently located. Another plus is that they're open late enough for a post-DPAC show pick me up. True to it's name, the MilkShake factory does sell a great variety of Milk Shakes. However, they do have added option to buy fudge as well. When I went, they were offering fudge samples, which were extremely tasty. The servers were really nice and friendly! I felt very welcomed here. The MilkShake factory has a list of basic milk shake flavors (think chocolate, vanilla) and then some more premium flavors. The milkshakes are priced at a slightly premium cost, but are not out of reach. Overall, I really enjoyed the taste of my cookies and cream shake. It was easy enough to drink with a straw, and wasn't overly sweet. Lastly, I enjoyed sitting at their outdoor picnic tables. I think I will definitely be back! read more

It a pretty small place, with seating both inside and outside-it definitely had a fresh new vibe! I've been wanting to try this spot for quite some time and it did not disappoint. I was greeted with a warm welcome as soon as I walked in and given ample time to make my selection. The staff were vice nice and patient with me as I made my selection. Even letting me know of some of the popular items and fan favorites. I also was able to grab a s'more themed marshmallow which was amazing. Premium milkshakes located in a nice part of downtown Durham. I went here after a birthday dinner with my wife and it was our first time going. We got the fun fetti shake and the cookie shoppe shake. Both were excellent but I've got less of a sweet tooth than my wife and the vanilla fun fetti shake is incredibly sweet and surprisingly the cooke shoppe shake was less sweet and just the right amount for me. The service is quick and very nice. The atmosphere was a little chaotic since it's usually packed with kids but it was a nice early fall evening so we got our shakes to go .
