When speaking with the owner, she represents that the house is comfortable, fully equipped, and immaculate. However, on the first night of our one-week stay with 7 people, we pulled down the sheets on the master bed and found human hair clumped in multiple places and stuck to the top sheet and the bottom sheet of the queen-sized bed. In addition, the upstairs bathtub had a dirt ring in it, and hair was stuck to the side of it, which I discovered as I was getting ready to bath a baby in it. Also, the shower/tub combo in the downstairs bathroom had hair and dirt in it, and the downstairs toilet had FECES stuck to the side of the toilet bowl, so it wasn't cleaned, either. In the kitchen, the refrigerator handle (previously glued, I found out), came off in my hand. The fully equipped kitchen that she boasts in her amenities and comments is NOT. For a family of 7, I had a 3 quart saucepan, a small skillet, and a cooky sheet to cook on. The dish drainer rack had mold on it, so obviously, no one would want to use that. The front porch is dark and the light switch is taped in the OFF position to keep the light off. The steps are treacherous in the dark and even more when they are wet. The sidewalk and path to the front steps is uneven and dangerous. The step down from the side kitchen door is very high and uneven. Every bathtub/shower is dangerous with bath mats that move as you stand on them, so they are not secure places to stand in water. I reached the owner the first time (about the bed sheets), and she said she was sorry. She did NOT offer to come out and replace the sheets, just told me where I could find more. Upon finding the other issues, I made calls to her, and then also emailed her (which she insists is the best way to get her), but absolutely NO reply back to us. I called her once more after we returned from the trip, and gave her full and complete details. She said that ''no one cooks in places like this, you should have brought your own pots and pans", and had no comment about the human hair, feces, broken refrigerator, dirty tub, dirty shower, or her failure to even call us back when we reported those issues. BEWARE. She did, however, cash the full amount for our stay. BEWARE.

The home itself is a beautiful 1880 Victorian, which adds a lot of character to the experience. We stayed in the third-floor east view room and overall had a good stay. The space was clean, comfortable, and the bathroom was well kept. The only downside was the bed placement--it's positioned in the corner, and both of us ended up with a few bruises on our knees from the bed frame, which was a bit inconvenient. It's also pet-friendly, which was great for our dog. He did well overall, but being a senior, the stairs were a bit much for him after a while. Breakfast was simple with options like cereal, oatmeal, bananas, apples, tea, and coffee. It was fine, though we were expecting a more traditional bed-and-breakfast style meal with a bit more variety. If I owned the property, I'd love to add a front deck to make the outdoor space even more inviting.

You won't have to walk up 30 plus stairsteps (only four or five here) to arrive to the front door of your accommodations like many of the surrounding homes throughout the area. You will get a feel for what it might have been like when Westinghouse and Telsa took strolls together in the Point Breeze neighborhood and see wonderful front yard gardens, and old style homes that are breathtaking. When you get back to your room you will appreciate this older three story house that provides comfort and a sense you have arrived home. Simplicity at its best. Well done to Marco and his family for having the inspiration to bring comfort and hospitality to this historical part of the 'burgh. John

If I had written a review one of those times, it would've been probably a four star review. We just found that the staff was not very friendly for a facility that works with people going through difficult times. I was alone on this visit as my husband was admitted to the hospital and I was in the middle of discussions with the hospital regarding end of life care. I am diabetic and stress is a huge factor in my blood sugar levels. Check out time is 10:00 AM but I was having a hard time with nausea and dizzy spells due to my sugar levels. The front desk called 10:03 AM reminding me to check out. I told him that I was ill and would do my best to be out by 10:30AM. To make a very long story somewhat shorter, the front desk and the manager of the Neville House lied and to officials at the VA and we're just horrible. They were treating me like a hardened criminal because I was sick in my room and didn't get down to check out until 11:30 AM, partly because of the circus they were causing. They made me pay for an additional full night even though I had spoken with the cleaning lady on the way down and she said that she hadn't even been ready to get to my room. I paid and asked to speak to the manager and was given a business card. I saw in the lobby and was going to call the manager, but before I could do that the front desk attendant said she had her on the line. After a little go-around about how they are a nonprofit specifically created to help people in my situation and I wasn't causing them any extra cost or expense, she asked to speak to the front desk clerk and clearly told her to 'just get her out of there'. This woman'a salary is paid from a nonprofit organization that was designed to help patients and their families during troubling times. My husband is dying, I have a disease raging out-of-control. No one asked me if I was okay, no one asked me if I had proper medicine with me, no one asked me if I needed a doctor, no one asked me if I was able to drive. These people should be ashamed of themselves for how they treated me.
