You can smell the history! From the immense front porch with rockers and a swing to the claw tub to the mini farm with sheep and chickens one was surrounded with silence and thought - if these walls could talk!- Every nook and cranny filled with early 20th century furnishings and books! There is a fireplace for cool nights and one very small hidden tv which was turned on once in 3 days and that was to watch Little House on the Prairie! Breakfast each day? Delectable!

The later 2 were relocated here and situated by the Wright Association. The former 2 were designed for the specific site. Currently a Frank Lloyd Wright, Jr (Lloyd Wright) is being added to Polymath Park. Bear in mind that the whole Park is 130 acres and to tour the houses is by van. When you're at one house, you can't see the other houses. A restaurant is on site by the visitor center. If you are going to Fallingwater, it is worth the time to add Polymath Park to your itinerary.

We stayed in the FLW Mantyla house for one night and it was unfortunately a HOT weekend so it was about 85 degrees in the house and we had some issues with the lights not turning off at night in one of the bedrooms. Of course FLW houses don't have built-in A/C and often have "unique" aspects so none of this is entirely unexpected but just be aware in the summer. In the morning though, we saw a beautiful deer and her fawn outside the patio which is not uncommon at most FLW houses we've stayed at but still amazing to see through the huge windows of a Usonian house. I would never stay more than one night at the houses given that you need to be out while they're doing tours during the day but it's worth a one night stay if you're visiting Falling Water and definitely dine at the Tree Tops restaurant. I'd say 3.5 stars overall and I would consider staying again just to eat at the restaurant and not have to drive far afterward. :)

When speaking with the owner, she represents that the house is comfortable, fully equipped, and immaculate. However, on the first night of our one-week stay with 7 people, we pulled down the sheets on the master bed and found human hair clumped in multiple places and stuck to the top sheet and the bottom sheet of the queen-sized bed. In addition, the upstairs bathtub had a dirt ring in it, and hair was stuck to the side of it, which I discovered as I was getting ready to bath a baby in it. Also, the shower/tub combo in the downstairs bathroom had hair and dirt in it, and the downstairs toilet had FECES stuck to the side of the toilet bowl, so it wasn't cleaned, either. In the kitchen, the refrigerator handle (previously glued, I found out), came off in my hand. The fully equipped kitchen that she boasts in her amenities and comments is NOT. For a family of 7, I had a 3 quart saucepan, a small skillet, and a cooky sheet to cook on. The dish drainer rack had mold on it, so obviously, no one would want to use that. The front porch is dark and the light switch is taped in the OFF position to keep the light off. The steps are treacherous in the dark and even more when they are wet. The sidewalk and path to the front steps is uneven and dangerous. The step down from the side kitchen door is very high and uneven. Every bathtub/shower is dangerous with bath mats that move as you stand on them, so they are not secure places to stand in water. I reached the owner the first time (about the bed sheets), and she said she was sorry. She did NOT offer to come out and replace the sheets, just told me where I could find more. Upon finding the other issues, I made calls to her, and then also emailed her (which she insists is the best way to get her), but absolutely NO reply back to us. I called her once more after we returned from the trip, and gave her full and complete details. She said that ''no one cooks in places like this, you should have brought your own pots and pans", and had no comment about the human hair, feces, broken refrigerator, dirty tub, dirty shower, or her failure to even call us back when we reported those issues. BEWARE. She did, however, cash the full amount for our stay. BEWARE.

My two sisters and I (and our significant others) came to celebrate a milestone birthday and were beyond impressed with this place. The ambiance is fantastic! The courtyard is beautiful as well as the patio in the back. The decorating that Kitty has done throughout the inside of the house is really beautiful. And as David says, "We want to concentrate on two things: The bed, and the breakfast." And that is exactly what they have done here. Each evening, David will come to offer your breakfast choices for the following morning. And it's not just bacon and eggs people... these are GOURMET offerings all made fresh on site using fresh ingredients. We had a choice of a peach cobbler oatmeal that had peaches from the tree in the backyard even and it was delicious! There was also one addition that just made my stay even more superb... a little dog named "Jack" and he is the most precious (smiling) doggie that I have ever seen! So stinkin' CUTE! Anyway... if you are ever in the area (checking out Frank Lloyd Wright's work) you should definitely give this place a shot. They are phenomenal! Thank you David and Kitty! These are close to public transportation and some shops, restaurants, etc. A long walk to the Universities but a shorter walk to the Hillman Cancer Center and Shadyside hospital. Rooms come as either singles or 1 bedrooms. I chose a basement suite and it turned out to be much more than I could have expected. A large comfy bed, flat screen HDTV with Premium sports and movie channels, a kitchen with all the amenities from Oven to Spatula, a full bathroom, and a small dining /work table. The suites are housed in a turn of the century victorian house converted into apartments and conveniently located off bus lines to Downtown. The best thing is supermarkets and bars are nearby, all which Robert gives you maps and descriptions of. Got Laundry? no problem, the suites have their own laundry room and each room has an ironing board, laundry basket, and iron. It's home away from home.

So pleasant and helpful as can be. Our group had an injured rider stay for two days even while others rode. Seriously, between the owners and an angel employee named Loretta (?) they cared for him like he was family. We would/will not stay anywhere but Yoder House given the chance to ride GAP again.
