I see the owners lovingly tarp the Little Free Library when rain's expected so books don't get wet and damaged. Tourists linger not only to take a photo in front of this restored Victorian home but often take a book to read on their travels. A kind and thoughtful addition to Alamo Square.

I appreciate the fluidity in titles at these community book boxes. You never know what you'll get. A mishmash potpourri of magical words bound in a thin cover. As if anything so flimsy as paper could contain the power of the ideas transposed on them. A community with these book boxes and a live of literature is the place I want to live in. This little Free Library is on the premises of the Benicia Cat Clinic. I did not see the box at…read morefirst. It's right at the entryway and it's sitting on a bench. The day that I visited it was stocked nicely with a few hardbacks and some soft cover books. I added some business books, so that the customers can read these while they're waiting for their cat. The box is nicely sheltered from the rain, and it's in really good shape. It has a great latch closure. It's not particularly large, but has room for about 15 or 20 books. I laughed when I saw several novels by Lilian Jackson Braun. Of course, she is the author who writes about the cat detective. Remember Koko and yum yum? Do you remember at Jim Qwilleran? While you're here at checkout the Beautiful brick artwork right next to the entrance. Really cute cat art!

Here's a cute book box right near downtown Walnut Creek! I had no idea there was a tract of homes…read morethis close to downtown. The owner of the book box explained that this is one of the original tract of homes in Walnut Creek. While you are here checking out the book box, check out this wonderful cute neighborhood as well. The book box is sort of a dark rustic red with a black metallic roof. The box is very well-constructed. I believe it is based on one of the plans from the little Free Library organization. What makes this box interesting is that there's two stories! The lower story is for magazines and kids books, and the upper compartment is for regular books. It's really close to Lesher theater in Walnut Creek. Just a few houses down on allmond Avenue. Look for the intersection of Almond court and Almond Avenue. You can't miss it! While I was here visiting the book box, I could hear lots of music coming from downtown. Seems like a really fun place! I had a chance to meet the nice owner of the book box and she explained how the box came to be. A neighbor actually gave her the equipment and helped install it for her. The neighbor even dug the hole and put the cement in for the post! Wow I wish I had neighbors like that! None of my neighbors have ever dug post holes for me! So all in all a very nice Community book box. Pleasant location, Pleasant people. t is also a popular book box, as kids walk by frequently.

This street has quite a few little free libraries. There's a good reason for this--the husband-wife…read moreteam who makes them and paints them is located close by. They donate their time and skill to help their neighbors, so that other people can have these fun little boxes. On a hot day in summer, I had a opportunity to see some of these little Community book boxes, and also chat with the people who created them. The construction on most is similar. The craftsman explained that he tries to get two boxes out of one big piece of plywood. Then, his wife decorates them. This cute blue and white box is a good example of their work. It's well-constructed and looks like a little house! The day that I visited it was also jam-packed with books. If you get a chance walk around Park Avenue and check out the other boxes. Don't forget to go around the corner to the right and check out the Cat in the Hat Library box.
