When we entered we were greeted by Marjorie. She asked if this was our first time in. I mentioned it was my first time. Marjorie went on what they were all about and how there specials worked. Specific days had specific color and shapes for certain deals. The day of our visit, anything with blue or green or with square or rectangles were 50% off! I bought some items and when I went to the counter to pay the clerk gave me the price I said aloud really? I expected it to be more because the apron I purchased for my granddaughter was pink. She said it is but the shape of the pocket is rectangle! So they try hard to find anything that will help you save even more on your purchases! This store is a pretty good size. It is well organized and sectioned off in themes. You can find furniture, wedding dresses, jewelry, books etc.. The staff is very friendly and makes sure to let you know they are there if needed. This place is a nonprofit organization that reaches out to widows, widowers and kids. They hold meal events for this specific groups. What a wonderful mission/cause to support. I bought a few things and managed to squeeze it into my luggage. Wish I could have room for a couple of furniture items. Anyway I really love this place and what their purpose stands for. My room at the Fairfield Inn had a great view of The Tilted Map, and after noticing several people…read moreparking in the hotel lot and walking over, my curiosity got the best of me. While The Tilted Map does have its own small parking lot with lines painted for two rows of vehicles, it felt a little too tight for my comfort, so I ended up parking on the street. It seemed safer. The cafe is located in a beautifully restored former church, with stunning cathedral ceilings and Gothic-style windows. The space has been thoughtfully updated with lush plants, cozy seating areas, board games, and an array of unique wall clocks, along with a nice outdoor seating area that gives it a community feel. The cafe originally opened after Hurricane Helene in September of 2024, by the Mountain Aid Project, so volunteer groups could organize supplies and distribute them quickly. It never got disbanded and stayed a non-profit. They bought the church, made a community space and the cafe opened after. The name Tilted Map came from the Earth tilting at 23.44 degrees, which provides for seasons, migration, shadow, rest and growth. But resilience is what came after Hurricane Helene, as they had to shift or tilt after the crisis and neighbors needed to help each other. The cafe sells coffee, tea and scratch-made pastries. I was too focused on the pastries to realize they sold art too. The money from what they sell goes to tiny home construction, household essentials, and storm recovery for those in the area. The scratch-made pastries are baked in the commercial kitchen in the basement. Volunteers run the cafe. I ordered a sticky bun, a pumpkin cookie and a blueberry lemon cookie, and yes, they are as delicious as they look- sweet but not too sweet. Each cookie was packaged separately, and the sticky bun was made to order, with putting it in the container and adding the icing on top. They also had some gluten-free items for sale. There wasn't much left to choose from a little after 10am on a Saturday, so you might want to go earlier if you are looking for something in particular. The cafe has limited hours, so be sure to verify their schedule before you head out. Definitely check out this special spot if you are anywhere around Morganton!

What I found was one of the cutest cafés I've visited in a long time. The café is housed inside a beautifully restored former church, complete with soaring wood ceilings, Gothic-style windows, cozy seating areas, bookshelves, plants, and plenty of character. Every corner feels warm and welcoming. I ordered a drip coffee and a gluten-free lemon blueberry cookie. The cookie was soft, bright, and packed with blueberries. When I was told the cookies were buy one, get one free, I happily added a chocolate coconut cookie, which was equally delicious. The outdoor patio is lovely, and there's also a beautiful garden area to explore. Having dedicated parking was another bonus that made the stop easy and stress-free. My only suggestion would be to upgrade the coffee accompaniments. I'd love to see Sugar in the Raw and fresh cream or half-and-half instead of the small packaged creamers. The coffee itself was good enough to deserve it. That said, the atmosphere alone makes this place worth visiting. It's charming, peaceful, and filled with personality. If you're driving through Morganton or exploring the area, make time for a stop here. Life is too short to drink boring coffee and eat forgettable cookies.
