Set right in downtown Davidson across from Davidson College, the atmosphere strikes that perfect balance--lively but still intimate. The menu evolves frequently, so what we saw differed from what's posted online--but that turned out to be part of the charm. Everything sounded appealing, and choosing wasn't difficult. Our server stood out immediately--deeply knowledgeable and able to walk through each dish with impressive detail, right down to preparation. It's easy to see why Kindred earned "Recommended" status in the inaugural Michelin Guide American South and continues to be recognized for top-tier hospitality and cuisine. We started with the Little Gem lettuce salad--fresh, bright, and elevated by the perfect crunch and subtle richness of pistachios. For my entrée, I had the rigatoni with guanciale, English peas, and pecorino sardo--rich, balanced, and full of flavor without being heavy. A memorable meal all around.

My cousin had something with gin and sage and her husband had an herbaceous drink with bourbon. To eat, We had the pickles, fried oysters, duck fat fries, momo chicken salad and cinnamon rolls! omg so good! I had the shrimp roll- a lobster roll but made with shrimp. Flavorful, light and refreshing! Everyone was happy.

Amazing food Amazing service by server Sadik…read more He did good recommendations. Amazing vibe. Clean food. Nice and amazing place to dine and enjoy the great food. Must try as they serve clean and amazing food. Might be short of words but grilled octopus was amazing and must try duck. My friend had shot rib and he was amazed to do well with the food. Must try banana cheese cake.

The food: we were served salads and focaccia to start. The side salad was nice, and I enjoyed the creamy vinaigrette and fresh vegetables. The focaccia was warm and beautifully salted. We were also given cheese platters, and I enjoyed the addition of honeycomb on the platter. I opted for the filet mignon, medium rare, with polenta and roasted carrots. The filet was served medium well, and even with the Stilton crust it was flavorless and desperately needed some salt. The thyme polenta was also missing the thyme, and even more desperately needed salt and just any sort of flavor. An unflavored polenta can taste like boiled water and I found that to be the case with theirs. The carrots tasted lovely with the Madeira Demi glace, but were unfortunately raw. I opted for the banana cheesecake for dessert, and while it wasn't my favorite, I think it was executed nicely. I also tried someone else's coffee ice cream which they pair with beignets, and thoroughly enjoyed that. All in all, a disappointing food experience. For a $62 steak, they missed the mark.

North Italia - NORTH ITALIA - CHARLOTTE

Review for North Italia…read more has absolutely become one of my staples in Charlotte.** It's located in the heart of South End--a trendy, energetic neighborhood with beautiful outdoor dining--and one of the biggest perks here is easy parking, which, as any Charlotte diner knows, is always a win. Inside, the restaurant is gorgeous. Think large, comfortable booths, warm lighting, fresh flowers, and a lively but polished atmosphere. I always make a reservation through OpenTable--I'm too old to be waiting around to eat, and I might as well rack up some points and perks while I'm at it. One of the things I appreciate most about North Italia is their seasonal menu. It keeps the experience fresh and thoughtful, and you can tell the kitchen is paying attention to ingredients and timing. I usually start with a glass of wine-- a sparkling rosé or a crisp Sauvignon Blanc--something cold, clean, and refreshing. Bubbles are always a good option for me. They serve a delicious focaccia at the table, which I sometimes indulge in, but the dish that truly stands out--the one I still dream about--was a seasonal ravioli with butternut squash and crispy sage. It was beautifully balanced, comforting, and memorable in the best way. Other favorites: * The Caesar salad--perfectly dressed * The arancini and calamari--always solid starters * The pizzas, especially the cacio e pepe * And yes, the desserts are absolutely worth saving room for Brunch here is also a lovely experience. Sitting on the patio, eating alfresco on a sunny Sunday, reminds me so much of what I loved about California--being outdoors, enjoying great food, and taking your time. Thankfully, there's plenty of shade, so it's comfortable even on warm days. They do offer a happy hour. It's not the most extensive in town, but it's perfectly fine for drinks, a pizza, or a charcuterie board with friends after work. What keeps me coming back: * Consistently good service * Clean, beautiful space * Thoughtful seasonal dishes * Easy parking * Reliable quality Yes, it's a bit upscale--but it's approachable, welcoming, and dependable. And when a chef takes the time to create seasonal dishes that appeal to diners with curious palates, that deserves recognition. Bottom line: A polished, reliable favorite in South End that delivers great food, beautiful ambiance, and a consistently enjoyable dining experience.

No server ever greeted us or brought water to the table. We watched the tables around us get cleared and cleaned and the server pick up checks from two other departing parties. I'm patient (used to work in hospitality), but when they brought out a bowl of water for the dog with a couple that was seated after us that was too much!! You served the dog before us?!?!? No thanks.

After seeing their impressive IG posts advertising their brunch spread, we decided to check them…read moreout. Well, kudos to their social media manager because the post is better than IRL! Before I get to the food portion of the review, let's start with the basics. Brunch starts at 10am and there is a bit of a line that queues outside prior to the doors opening. And no judgement, but there were a lot of serious eater profiles in line so that made us even more optimistic about the food. The line does move a little slow as they take payment up front and also make drinks while slapping a wristband on to tell who paid for the buffet and who didn't. Not sure why they bothered because there wasn't anyone standing online checking for wristbands. But the place was packed by 10:45 so I would advise getting here earlier vs later. Also, unless I missed it, there wasn't a menu board listing what exactly was on the buffet. We assumed that the menu was similar to what we saw on IG. That was a mistake. The selection included waffles, chicken strips, scrambled eggs, shrimp and grits, biscuits and country gravy, bacon, sausage, fruit salad, salmon patties and an omelette make to order window. The good. The shrimp and grits were the best items on the menu. The grits were legitimately delicious and contained plenty of shrimp. However there were no bowls, only plates so if you don't like the run off effect, beware. The chicken tenders were good not great. The segments were irregular resulting in uneven frying with some of my pieces over fried. The bad. The eggs, sausage links, gravy and fruit salad were synonymous with the continental breakfast you get at the Hampton Inn. The sausage links in particular had that dull grey complexion that reeked of either steam or microwave but definitely not griddle cooked. The scrambled eggs essentially fused together in the serving pan so you had to scoop it out like ice cream. And my lady ordered from the omelette bar, and after waiting 15 minutes for it to be ready, she ended up with an inedible omelette that looked like it had been bathed in grease. The ugly. I ordered a Bloody Mary from the bar. The Bloody Mary was good, and included a decent garnish of okra and olives. However, I only ordered that one drink and the 2 buffets. Final ticket came to $87! Not sure how much they charged me for the bloody but I think I would stick with water or a beer if I were you. We may have caught them on an off weekend so there's that to consider. But in general, if quantity over quality is your groove, then by all means make this your next stop. But if you are looking for a brunch with a little more "cookery", you may want to look elsewhere.
