Both my GPS (Am I the only one that still has one?) and my mapping app tried to take me to the wrong place. It's on Noble, in that funny, little triangle between the 5, the 405 and the 118 freeways. This time I ignored my glowing boxes and just went with what made sense. And what do you know, found it right off. The library was stocked with a variety of books to interest a variety of readers and even had the extra special feature, a short retaining wall perfect for a quick peek at that extra appealing selection. A appreciate the owners willingness to give to the community and I'm grateful for the chance to explore a neighborhood that strangely enough, I'd never seen before.

I found this Little Free Library accidentally while I was out looking for another one. It's in the…read moreparking lot of the Mission Hills Community Church next to the Community Garden and it's HUGE! Positively gigantic. Two shelves tall and two book widths wide it holds a generous selection of books for a variety of readers, both kids and adults. It appears that the garden is set up more as a working garden than as a restful relaxing place to sit and hang out. So this LFL is perfect for browsing for a new read, admiring what's growing and then heading to another location to enjoy the book. I was impressed by the size of the box and grateful for the variety of it's reading options.

The residents here are free to maintain their homes in whatever they consider to be a responsible condition. Tightly cropped or overgrown, sedate colors or wild decoration, lovingly cared for or nearly abandoned. The library was well stocked with mostly kids books. I happened to have one of mine with me when I visited and she was smart enough to grab "Top and Bottoms" by Janet Stevens. It's a hilarious and beautifully drawn kids book that deals with sloth and hard work. It was a delight to read, even a greater a delight to look at and it subtly illustrates the benefits of working heartily. An awesome read and a discovery that made our little detour absolutely worthwhile.
