Some background- Explorations is a charter school that focuses on non-traditional, experiential education. It's a public school that functions like a private school, but has the minuscule budget if a small public school. Kids from all over the state can go there, but a certain percentage of students have to be from the immediate area. When I was enrolled, we had classes four days a week, M-Th. Fridays were split into outdoor adventure and internships and students would alternate between the two every other Friday. I had two internships. One of them was at a doggie day care place. It's ironic where I worked as the owner resembled Michael Myers from the Halloween movies. Currently, he's in jail as police found a sex slave in his house. The other internship was at an automotive painting firm. Outdoor adventure is what we did the Fridays when we didn't have internships. As far as activities... I crawled into a bat cave in Salisbury-it was wet, muddy, full of bats and friggin awesome! I went hiking up CT's tallest peak I belayed and climbed rocks I shared secrets in a sweat lodge and ate freshly killed beef from a student's farm I shot my teachers with guns...paintball guns (don't get any funny ideas). I did that and soooo much more! Academically, compared to a normal high school, the homework load is lighter. You're on a first name basis with your teachers. They're approachable and easy to talk to. Besides a few social stereotypes like the stoners, punks, hippies and those soon to drop out, the school is pretty much devoid of typical stereotypical high school kids. Basically, you're free to be yourself without having to worry about how your perceived. There are no bullies either. When I went there, the school had taken over an old bank. That was our school. Classes were in the basement and the offices were in the vault. In the middle of winter, the landlord elected not to renew our lease. We had class in a park pavilion in the dead of winter in the northeast corner of CT. Somehow I got through it, but damn, it was cold. We were spared by NWCC who saw our plight and gave us an old building to use for the remainder the year. The next year we got our building, which is the current location of the school. My class had 16 people in it and when I was a student, the entire student body had 72 kids. I loved my non-stereotypical high school. I got to go rock climbing across from Mt. Washington, experience the cold and a douchbag landlord and the generosity of the local community college. I had amazing teachers- many of whim I still talk to outside of school. They truly made my experience great and I'd consider them friends. Also, I still talk to my classmates and try to stay in touch. I made friends who will hopefully last a lifetime. I could go on and on, but I'll stop here. Explorations was a great experience and if you want a high school like no other, I encourage you to check it out. It's a one if a kind school :) Peace|

I've had my community garden plot through KNOX (at the UCONN Law School) for the last four seasons and I'm so thankful to have that beautiful oasis in the middle of the city. Beyond the community gardens, KNOX spearheads tons of wonderful programs in Hartford including the Greater Hartford Green Team, Hartford Cleans Up, Trees for Hartford Neighborhoods, and tons of education initiatives. We're definitely lucky to have them in the city!

I had such a great time at this years Greenhouse Party Fundraiser! It was my first time in…read moreattendance and I'm so thrilled that I went. I've never partied in a greenhouse before but what a great way to emulate summer in the dead of winter. This exclusive "midsummer dreaming" fundraiser, adorned with dimmed lights, draped florals and "fairies" was filled with people ready to have a great time. The free coat check, unlimited beer and alcohol as well as tasty food and desserts was a wonderful recipe for mixing a mingling. I conversed with so many people, who like me, wanted to enjoy this unique party in perfect "spring time" weather. I absolutely loved the variety in the silent auction. I tried to win the lawn landscaping makeover.....but I was out bid. The food was delicious and the drinks were perfect. How could I ever forget....the DJ was flawless!!!! This event has sparked my interest in The Knox Park Foundation and will be eager to support them in the future.

From the lake and hiking trails to the numerous playgrounds and pavillions Winding trails offers a variety of options. Close to the interstate you would not know that while you are here. It was that serene and tranquil. My firm had our recent company you outing hee and had a wonderful time using the property for our "Olympic" competition. We were provided with shaded pavillions as a central eating/meeting location and equipment to use for sand volleyball kickball and a relay race (which included a canoe of ride around the lake). There were several other groups on the property but I never felt "on top of them" The grounds were clean and well kept with our plenty of garbage cans and recycling bins to dispose of our catered lunch from Bear's BBQ (which was as good as eating at their brick and motor store in Hartford). It also looked like there were individual families enjoying the property but I am not sure if Winding Trails offers a separate membership for that. If you are looking for a place to hold an event large or small, I highly recommend checking Winding Trails.

I finally visited the Hartford waterfront today thanks to the Dragon Boat and Asian Festival. I…read morecan't say enough about how impressed I was! It was as scenic and as pleasant as can be. It was jam packed with couples and families and folks of all ages enjoying the sun, the scenery, and a perfect summer day. Hartford has really come a long way since I moved here in 1987. The Science Center, the Convention Center, a re-invigorated downtown, the Lincoln Sculpture Art Walk, and the beautiful Riverfront. I can't wait to see what the future brings.

There were so many interactive and hands on play areas. They even had an animal exhibit. There is a water play, music, engineering, area (and more). Within my daughters last year I found out I was pregnant and informed everyone that I would be interested in placing my newest baby into the infant program. Fast forward to my new baby being born, i applied in September and Lyndsey verbally said that I would be all set to join in December. I emailed in late October to ensure that she was still all set to start on December 2nd, Lyndsey then tells me in email that shes very sorry but theres no December spot but my daughter will be able to start April 20th. Due to not having a great experience with the prior conversation I called Wednesday 3/5/25 to see if we were still able to start 4/20/25 I spoke with whomever is covering Lyndsey on maternity leave and she said she knows nothing of it and would call me back. I did not get a call back. I then called 3/6/25 and spoke with Michelle (the director) who has informed me AGAIN that my baby does NOT have a spot in the infant program because the spot that was open was taken by a child of a newly hired employee. When I had IN WRITING that my daughter would be able to start on 4/20/25. This is a HUGE inconvience to not only me but my family who have been juggling trying to work and watch my daughter so I can also work. I then asked Michelle about recieving my $75 back that I paid in advance with Lyndsey because she assured me that I was all set TWICE. Michelle then emails me and says I will only be refunded $50 of my $75 because of a non-refundable application fee. When my money wouldnt have been wasted if my spot wasnt taken OR if Lyndsey would do her job correctly. I am VERY sorry that Lyndsey is the face of this organization as far as whom the parents have to speak with regularly and being the first person they meet when applying. She has cause not only me but my entire family a great deal of trouble. She is grossly incompetitent. I reached out to the CEO, Jay of this organization and notified him by email of all of this to which he replied asking for my contact information to speak with me verbally. He has never called me. I'm relieved to know my daughter now wont be going here. If they cant maintain the employees performing basic daily tasks correctly how can i ensure my infants safety within this school.

Lately…read morewhen you go, it seems like they sell things priced the same as stores new, so what's the point of even going to Goodwill now in days? I remember the last Goodwill I went to; they priced over the 1.25 dollar tree price as 2.99 I could not help but laugh out loud at the ridiculousness as I put it right back on the shelf. On this occasion we went looking to see if we could find a costume dress but ended up finding a lot of other things priced reasonably. Walked out with a couple of good finds; would definitely come back to this one.

I recently dropped off five bags of things. The lady at the donation door was already there when I arrived. The donation process was very quick and easy. This isn't a huge Goodwill, but small to average. Their furniture area is pretty lackluster. I did find some interesting shoes, one of them was entirely handmade. Maybe my donations will help improve their inventory. You never know what might be hidden at Goodwill.

It is play based learning with optional parental involvement. My child just graduated and enjoyed his time at Canton Community Nursery School. The teachers were great. The classroom was nice; it's organized with all types of toys. There were fundraisers throughout the year. I enjoyed getting updates on the SeeSaw app on what the kids were doing in class. My child has learned quite a bit. I highly recommend and would definitely put my child there again.
