Terrible experience. The main dishes don't come with rice or naan. They made it seem like they did on the menu because we payed extra to upgrade our veggie dishes to "meals". We still had to pay for rice and naan on the side and additionally were charged a 14% service fee which is absurd for the quality of service, food, and atmosphere. We were also charged 5£ for a water we did not order or drink. They refused to refund us for the water and didn't even acknowledge that the mistake was on their end completely. We weren't offered any form of compensation other than them giving us the 5£ bottle of water (that we didn't want nor ask for). Appetizers were charged per person instead of per portion so we as a group of 4 payed twice the amount of money as the group of 2 next to us despite eating the same amount of appetizers. When we tried to take a photo of the receipt he tried grabbing it out of my friends hand. The whole experience felt like a scam honestly from the main entrees not coming with rice or bread to being charged for things we didn't order. I do not recommend this place at all i'm pretty sure there's a spot on the other side of the park that's a quarter of the price with way larger portions. read more

We walked down Gloucester Road from our hotel, the Bailey Hotel and read a lot of menu boards. We liked what we saw posted for this tiny restaurant. It was late, around 9 pm but they graciously gave us a nice table at the front window. Service was polished; quiet, quick, gracious and very accommodating. We ordered meat samosas ( delicious ) and began the meal with papadums (two varieties) and four dips, all delicious. We had butter chicken and lamb house specialty dish, I can't recall the name of, and garlic naan. All were delicious and served quickly. The restaurant is small but nicely appointed. We greatly enjoyed our meal and the service was excellent. Prices were average. read more

The food was pretty good but super overpriced. They charge 5 GPB extra for boiled rice, don't offer water at the table, and add a 12.5% service charge to the bill. Not only was the food here excellent, but the owner of the restaurant made my friend and I feel so special and welcome. His hospitality made for such a memorable evening. We came late on Christmas with no reservation, after being turned away by many other restaurants. The owner went out of his way to make us comfortable in the waiting room with drinks until a table opened up, and then attended to us personally with menu recommendations - even sharing samples of the staff meal with us. Little India was actually very good Indian food. The experience itself was also fantastic- service was wonderful. However, the main reason why it deserves 3/5 stars in my opinion is the price (and how much food you get for a hefty bill). One issue that I had was that when we asked for papadum, they charged us 5 pounds for it without telling us that it would be that expensive (in every other Indian restaurant I have been to it has been free or 1$). The portions were also pretty small, to the point where I left still hungry for more food. While the food was very tasty, I would recommend finding another spot, perhaps near Brick Lane where you can get the same kind of quality for a better price. read more

The wife and I stopped in here for a late night dinner our last night in London. We'd already had one of the best Indian meals at a different spot, and had high expectations, but went in without reserves, as it was nearly 10 and we were just hungry. To start, the service can be friendly, but the guy that helped us by the door was not. He was rather rude, curt, and seemed to not have any quality of customer service skills. However, our server (I think, as we were helped over the course of our dinner by 3-4 different people) was nice and welcoming, if not a little pushy. We already relatively knew what we wanted after perusing the menu for a few minutes, but were recommended many things continually, even after saying 'no,' in an effort to order the actual food we wanted. Their "Papadum" was vigorously recommended, and we had no idea what it was, so we said no. It seemed to have irritated them a bit that we weren't willing to purchase something sight unseen, having no idea what it was or what the price was, as they weren't very forthcoming with an easily understandable description of the dish. Overall, we enjoyed our meal, but it was what I might describe as "standard Indian fare." You can certainly go and get a good meal when in the area, but I agree with other reviewers that the price at the end of the meal seemed a little more inflated than we were prepared for. read more

Msg and up sells The food tasted great but I was sick for over a week after eating here will the classic symptoms of MSG- which is not illegal in the UK. The waiter argued with us and tried to get us to order things we did not want. We had way too much food as it was. When we objected to ordering more food a light went off in the waiter and service was less than. We had to ask 5 times for our change of 10 pounds. I think they thought we'd give up but we actually did not. It was very hard to get our change - the bad service coupled with the intentional ignoring of customers' needs made this place a nightmare. Went here about a week ago and figured it was still important to share our experience. Good food, option available to try a lot of things for a higher price which was a good selection and a lot of food (if you want to include something that's not included in this offer they're happy to swap in what you want). We had a nice waiter, and everyone was very attentive. A little expensive but we were unfamiliar with the restaurant and cuisine and were recommended this by the waiters. I would've left a good review anyways but we felt extremely pressured by the owner/manager to leave a good review on tripadvisor. I understand how important that it to business, as those reviews were exactly why we went there, but it was pretty uncomfortable. We decided to have Indian food on our first night in London. This restaurant was walking distance from our hotel in a popular part of Kensington. A very small space. I wouldn't call it cozy but we were quite comfortable since we were the only people in the restaurant upon arrival. (2 more parties arrived before we ended our meal) There were at least 4-5 servers/staffers on site, so there was no lack of attention. In fact there was too much attention & I constantly felt rushed. I couldn't even take a comfortable look through the menu to decide what I wanted to order because the server kept coming over impatiently waiting for our order. I understand that due to the size of the restaurant they need a fast turnover however we were still the only people there. We ordered vegetable samosas & meat samosas. They were very tender, flaky & delicious. For entrée my husband had Chicken Tikka Masala. I don't know for sure what I ordered due to being so rushed, but I know it was a vegetarian curry based dish. We also ordered some rice & naan. Food was quite pricey which we don't mind as long as its worth it. I don't think it was. I have had much better & definitely cheaper food at local Indian eateries. As someone who travels for a living, I certainly appreciate finding restaurants that provide friendly service and an expansive menu. Felt hungry and was craving for Indian food. Fell for this one - was right across the street. While the chicken curry we were served was acceptable, the lamb was certainly not - it was hard, impossible to chew & let alone swallow. I politely complained, showed to whom seemed to be the owner/manager the condition of all the unchewable "lamb" pieces & asked to have them substitute that dish with something else. I felt being submitted to a cross-examination from that moment on (I'll spare you the details, but was "cheap" and of the not hospitable kind at all, even by London standards..) The substitute "chicken" curry dish must have also seen better days (or months) as the "lamb" that preceded it, since I felt it was also quasi impossible to chew. Must have sat in their freezer for months prior to having been defrosted and hastily served as a substitute.. Lastly, the check or "bill" was also nicely added on to I felt. Very polite while welcoming us and offering us to come inside. Was more of a "business" friendly type of atmosphere. That's fine because after all, it is a business. The food was ok. Not as good as other Indian restaurants I've eaten at here. The meat was kinda hard to chew (rubber-like) but overall the cooking was ok. What upset me is after we paid, they "rushed" us out to seat the next guests. I mean, we did stay there for a little over an hour but we paid 65£ for two people. We were actually ready to leave but as soon as we paid the bill, they wanted us to go. Telling us in a very friendly way "We need this table now." They should have told the next guests they have to wait a few minutes. Nothing wrong with that. We had already paid. How much longer did they think we were going to stay? After a miserably failed attempt at an establishment across the street, we decided to head over to Little India for some quick and easy food. We were greeted immediately, sat and actually had our order taken in the first 5 minutes. They quickly brought over our drinks and papadum for the table before taking our orders. Everything seemed to come up roses as our food was served promptly, was the correct orders and was quite delicious. The wait staff was courteous, friendly and attentative. Frustrating. Earlier today, my girlfriend was in the mood for some Naan and we happen to pass by Little India. Her original plan was to stop by Waitrose and buy some of the storebrand with 2 to 3 pieces Naan for a pound or two. Nothing special, but usually satisfies the Naan craving. However, this time, we stopped by Little India and asked if she could buy a few pieces of Naan for takeaway. They said of course and went back and put the Naan in the oven. Moments later they came back with the check for 11 pounds(!) for 4 pieces of Naan. Absurd! They said the order was already in the oven and that we had to pay. A big ripoff and terrible customer service. I will never go back. You cannot treat customers like that in a city with a plethora of great Indian places. 2 stars only because the Naan was actually pretty tasty. read more

Went here tonight based on Yelp reviews. My group of five was seated at a tiny table in the middle of the restaurant with an extra chair added to the end of the table. Waiter recommended papadums and rice for the table. Meal was disappointing but adequate. Sauces were quite bland. When the bill was presented, waiter asked if we'd like to add a tip. When I queried some of the line items on the bill, which was illegible, it turned out we'd paid ten pounds for five papadums, twenty five pounds for rice, and that a service charge had already been added.
