Highly recommend. Perfect setting on the coast and quick walk or drive by taxi from the Old Course Hotel. We were warmly greeted and sat for our dinner reservation. Bread service and cocktails were all excellent. While we didn't have wine, the options were solid. We all opted for the three-course menu and everyone very much enjoyed their meals. The restaurant was very accommodating to our guest with allergies. The tiramisu desert, which all four of us ordered was outstanding. My only critique is a restaurant of this caliber should include an amuse bouche and intermezzo at a minimum. read more

The windows are dirty, so is most of the other glass. The waiter never explained the menu beyond ordering two or three courses. I asked about the deer and duck pate, he really couldn't explain the dish. I asked if it was more like a country pate because I was trying to understand the concept; he said yes, country pate. For those who care, it's a deer tartare with a duck pate. Main dishes were good. No linens on the table, or cleaning/wiping of the table between courses; not really fine dining. I think at this level lines are a must, and crumbing is expected. Devil is in the details. Probably they expect, mostly tourists who never come back? The most stunning restaurant in St Andrews, with quite a spectacular view over the ocean. We ate quite late, so our view was not as amazing as it would be during the day/at sunset, but the experience was very memorable. The service here is fantastic, with the somm recommending excellently paired wines to go with the delicious food. We are desperate to come back, and hopefully the scallops are still on the menu for when we return. If you want superb seafood, then you must come here. read more

The view from this restaurant is likely one of the best you'll ever find since it's built over the North Atlantic Ocean. The ambiance was fun and upbeat. A wallet walloper! Very nice though. Michelin starred service and food. Pricey but that's how it goes. W/ the dollar where it's at and their VAT tax it's an extra wallop on the wallet now. The restaurant is situated on the North Sea and right next to the original golf course. The old course of Saint Andrews. Special in every way. The martini (made w/ the local gin) was the smoothest I've had in this lifetime. The homemade bread is a bizarre Baker's delight. Somehow the bread is heavy, like a brick, and yet lighter than air.Tasty crust served w/ the best butter this side of Ireland. Fine dining need not be tedious. Everyone was very jovial and had a sense of humor. (This review does NOT reflect the enormousness of the bill. Again, our weak president has led to a weak economy, and a weakened American dollar. We absolutely loved our experience here! We walked in without a reservation and they were miraculously able to seat us right away! The restaurant itself is gorgeous with incredible views, service is super friendly, they have a great wine list, and the food is literally art that you can eat (and tastes amazing too!). It was packed for dinnertime. My husband started with oysters and I had their Caesar salad. Both amazing and the perfect start to our meal. We then split the crab and lobster risotto... FLAVOR EXPLOSIONS! You could taste all of the fresh herbs that they use in the dish. Yum yum! I then ordered their scallop appetizer for my entree which only had 2 on the plate but they were honestly some of the best scallops that i've ever had in my life! Again, the flavors were insane. I also ordered a side of potatoes that were tasty as well. For dessert, we had their strawberries and cream w/sorbet - it was incredible! I'm not usually a dessert person but this was so light and the perfect palate cleanser after a tasty meal. We'd absolutely come back on a future visit! We went to The Seafood Ristorante for a birthday a year ago and decided to go back since it was so good. This time it was more disappointing.. we arrived just before our booking time of 12pm and entered the restaurant. We were stopped and sent back outside since staff instruction was still ongoing. Not such a pleasant experience for such a good restaurant. Sitting down, the intense fish smell from the open kitchen became quickly overpowering. In addition, the service was a bit too efficient and quick. As to the food itself, the starters of langoustine risotto and smoked salmon were great, the halibut main nice, though maybe a bit undercooked and the dessert tarte tatin fantastic. By no means bad, but not any longer worth the detour from Aberdeen. read more

Everyone we've talked to has raved about this restaurant, so I was surprised to see it have a 3.5 rating on Yelp. I'm having dinner with 4 people who are extremely particular about their dining experience. Every person at my table, including myself agreed this was a true 5 star experience! It's located on the water with a beautiful view and across the street from St. Andrews. All of us except one ordered the evening special: Wild Sea Bass with potatoes, squid, and vegetables. It was incredible. Light but seasoned perfectly with a crispy skin. My husband ordered the Scottish Turbot served with a delicious sauce. Neither of us had ever heard of Turbot so I looked it up online. It's described as one of the most expensive and tastiest fish available. It is found on the coast of Scotland and Ireland. It was outstanding! My husband and I shared an order of mussels and a Caesar salad. It was the BEST mussels we've ever had. A huge bowl with tender mussels in a light broth. We couldn't finish it! For dessert, we shared the apple tart tatin served with ice cream and caramel sauce. One order of this dessert was enough for 4 of us. Service was excellent! read more

This is an exquisite place on the shoreline of St Andrew. The service is excellent. Vast ocean view with its contemporary decor just bring the outdoor into the dinner platter. As I approached the entrance, I was greeted with sumptuous aroma of fine dinner. The oyster on half shell is best I had ever tasted. The brought over the gluten free bread. Wow, that was a total winner. Even the butter is perfectly soft with a sprinkle of sea salt on it. I was expected at the clubhouse for dinner in 2 hours. Never mind about that, I'm ordering my fish now. Got to continue with this.... my monk fish was absolutely heavenly. The food is hot, not a simple task here in Scotland. This plate is far exceed that. The monkfish is just perfectly cooked with an artichoke cream based sauce. It is refreshing, delicious and surprisingly light. The compliments is a tomato cup filled with ratatouille. The zucchini blossoms is piped with an airy mousse. I think the chef could possibly have more fun than the patron. All these was enjoyed with Scotland gin andFever Tree Indian tonic with slice of green apple. A really nice treat. read more

We had our best meal so far in the UK. Went with a group of six for a graduation celebration. Every course was incredibly presented and tasted amazing. Steak was cooked perfectly. Cod was like a buttery halibut. Crab appetizer was great, but ceviche was even better! The basil ice cream for dessert was a delightful taste surprise. Gorgeous location, right on the sand. Beautifully designed restaurant. Service was mostly good. Many employees milling around and none of them seemed to look in our direction. Shout out to Danni and Chloe who redeemed the service staff! Danni is a sweetheart with a smile and a desire to make your experience perfect. Chloe was there for us and was knowledgeable and attentive. Thank you to both these women. Do not bother with this restaurant. It is a shame as it is such a nice setting and lovely atmosphere by the sea. After dining here multiple times, both for dinner and lunch, I have not found it to be any better or stand out as an exceptional restaurant. The food does not reach their pricepoints, and it is quite distasteful that they state a minimum spend amount per person on the menu. Skip the Seafood Ristorante and instead go to Restaurant 18, The Bridge (both found in the Rusacks hotel), or the Swilcan Loft at the Old Course Hotel. read more

Came here with a larger group as part of a special celebration, and all in all, the experience was overpriced and disappointing - 85£ a head for three courses, and some seriously mediocre wine. While the location and ambiance are quite cool, the group was unfortunately split up around the restaurant at four different tables, with other diners scattered around, so there was a palpable lack of intimacy. The food was average and not at all worth the money spent - both starter and mains were cold, and the dessert was tasteless. Furthermore, the main was significantly different than what was described on the menu - perhaps they'd run out of ingredients? The real shocker came though when I asked for more bread for the table and in stead of bringing a full new basket the waiter proceeded to go to another table, take the remaining basket that was left, and offer me just one piece. We've been coming to our flat in St. Andrews for years, and for the first time we decided to try The Seafood Restaurant with our friends visiting from Cambridge who wanted to have good Scottish seafood during their visit. We were not disappointed. We went for lunch as they were fully booked for dinner, and personally I think a meal here during the day is ideal; the view of The West Sands and The North Sea are spectacular and would not be visible at night. The food was absolutely outstanding. I enjoyed the North Sea langoustines cooked in garlic butter; well worth the 30 pounds it cost. I ordered them as a main, but you can also order them in a starter portion (15 pounds). Our friends ordered seared sea scallops as a starter and the west coast mussels and were very happy with their meals. The portions are generous though, and two can easily share an order of the mussels as their main, which could be said of the langoustines as well. They also served the best martini I've ever had in Scotland - a Tanqueray 10 with a twist, served perfectly cold. To summarize: Eat here. It's well worth the cost, with great views and outstanding food and service. read more

Dining here was actually one of the most disappointing experiences of my life and I have recently experienced a lot of internship rejections. Coming to the seafood restaurant, which is in prime location, I was expecting to have a nice dinner at sunset with a view of the sea. Instead, I was seated in a spot with a view of the aquarium. Upon entry, an over enthusiastic sommelier greeted us and explained every dish on the menu then run away. I promptly then had 5 different waiters come to our table and attempt to take our order. Finally, we ordered the mussels to three different waiters and they were still confused and didn't want to bring us the mussels. The mussels, when they CAME tasted great, then, we were brought the wrong entree and it was forced in our face. We said many times that we did not order it, but the waitress persisted in presenting it to us. Finally, another waiter came over and apologised. Our dining experience was stressful to say the least. Lovely setting and great food topped off a nice weekend in St. Andrews. Heard about this place several times due it's unique location sitting over the sea. The menu was restricted to only a few choices but all sounded great. Presentation was top class and food so fresh and delicious. I would def. go back if in the area again. In a nutshell, the bloom is off this rose. Or more precisely, there's far better restaurants in St. Andrews than here. This was my second visit here; the last time several years ago with a group of friends. Tonight was to be a repeat visit with my wife - beautiful restaurant, great view, excellent food, and great service. Thankfully the restaurant can't screw up the view. We had the three course prix fix - a starter, main and dessert for each. My wife's fois gras terrine was quite good, but overly salted. Since when do you salt fois gras? I had a half dozen oysters and they were very good, so overall a good start. For the mains, my wife ordered the cod dish and I ordered for a the seafood platter: " 1/2 Lobster, scallops, langoustine, crevettes oysters, squid, mussels served with sauteed potatoes and samphire" (at a £12.50 supplement). My wife's cod was properly cooked - flaky, cooked to perfection. The quinoa it was served on though, was complete mush. It takes around 8 minutes to cook quinoa; this must have been sitting pre-cooked for several times that. I received only 1 langoustine and 2 shrimp which were not advertised as part of the dish. They are not the same! So clearly they were cutting corners. The cooked oysters were good; as well as the disproportionally huge bowl of mussels. (I certainly do not like a huge price supplement for mussels!) The kicker, though was the lobster being undercooked. The tail meat was good, but just past rare, so edible. The claw was not edible at all - it was just past raw. And there's no way the cook didn't know this as the claw had been pre-cut for serving. For dessert - which was inexcusably late arriving - I ordered a blueberry and lemon dish that was quite good; my wife's cheesecake tasted like a commercial cheap corner-cutting cheesecake made with gelatin. And regretfully the service was on the same sub-par with the meal. It wasn't as if we were flint skates - two cocktails and a decent white burgundy, along with water of course. We had to the wave down a person for more water more than once! In my opinion all of the above is an indication of poor management allowing all this to happen. The cook gave me a lame excuse for the lobster, not any form of apology; and he should never have even put the quinoa on the plate; and clearly cost corners are being cut at the customer's expense and misrepresentation. For the starters I'd recommend the soup and sashimi, and the lobster and steak for the main. We had the sticky toffee pudding for dessert, apparently a verj popular dish in the highlands. It's the location of this glass filled box that ticks all the boxes. You could be floating on the edge of the sea and as the sun goes down the view is breathtaking...if you can get close to it. We booked FIVE months in advance for a special meal here and asked for a table by the window. When we arrived we were told that all the tables by the window were taken (....by invisible people who didn't materialise until two hours later?) And that 'they booked a long time in advance.' and five months isn't?The wine waiter was friendly and funny, knowledgeable and delightful..but he was the only one who seemed human. The waitress who originally met us was rude, sulky and glared at us for the rest of the evening. The rest of the staff looked as if they thought they were slumming it and why on earth should they serve mere mortals. The food was good...but not outstanding. 'Resting' and 'laurels ' are the words that come to mind here. In this climate restaurants cannot afford to rest on anything except ' aurant'. We wouldn't go again. Don't expect to pay these kind of prices for cold unfriendliness and arrogance. Pity-hope the wine waiter gets a better job at a better restaurant-in partnership with the food and the scenery he made the night for us. read more

It is difficult to separate the so-so food from the horrible way we were treated. On arrival were immediately told what time we would have to leave. They had later reservations and wanted to make sure we didn't overstay our welcome. The place was almost empty. We were given a menu that included two separate entree lists. After we asked we were told one of the lists was only available for a charity event. We were confined to a list of only four entrees and only two seafood choices. We ordered only to watch the next table get served from the event menu which was refused to us. The food was okay but hugely overpriced. read more

Had first reservation at opening of dinner, ask for table at window, "I am sorry it is reserved" no one shows! Ordered white wine, it was served hot, they did not care. Ordered food, it comes almost before you finish your order. When it arrives, by the third person to wait on us, it is too salty to eat. Can't find anyone to talk to until main course is served. Fish was smelly and tasted awful. Lobster was rubbery.. Mussels were awful. Scallops were edible but got two. Dessert was edible but nothing worth trying a second time, and I love dessert. When finally get to talk to someone to mention the food was too salty and food was horrible, hostess later arrives to be so gracious to give us free desserts. Let's see 48 pounds a piece for horrible food and they think mediocre desserts make up for this. HOT WINE, SALTY APPS, FISHY FISH, RUBBERY LOBSTER, POOR SERVICE, AND THEY DON't CARE, Don't Go.
