Came here while visiting Asheville and loved it. They have an excellent cocktail menu full of classics and fresh new drinks. Dishwasher out, no sink in a bar??? Paying premium cocktail prices, to be served in plastic cups? The worst part was how curt the bartender spoke to the customers, "I mean, what do you want me to do?!" Not ok! There were clean glasses behind the bar, and when another customer pointed that out, the same bartender replied, "What do you want us to do, stay here all night and hand wash glasses?!" Well .... ? We also arrived an hour early to get a good seat at the bar, and were ignored initially while the same bartender and waiter chatted with each other, and munched on food behind the bar. Comfy sofas and chairs, a few booths, small tables, high tops and a bar are all choices for enjoying your drink, snacks and conversing with new friends or old ones. One of the top three cocktail bars in Asheville! All of their cocktails are well balanced and have just the right amount of ingredients without over doing it. Prices are fair! Does get really busy on the weekends around 7-8 so there may be a wait around that time. My favorite is the Death in Montford cocktail and their dirty martini service for two! What a delightful neighborhood bar. Close to downtown but far enough away to feel like a local hideaway. The interior and overall feel is incredible. A perfect vision of what a jazz speakeasy is. My first two times visiting I was blown away. My last time left a bit of room for improvement but I'd certainly go back time and time again. Their drinks are not cheap but they are well crafted. They have a great manhattan and old fashioned. They have not only the classic option but all in between. They also offer a ton of others and some Specials. Gin and tonic is a fresh fav and they do it so well and with so many options. Again- absolutely love the aesthetic. Low lights, comfy seats and they display local rotating art. Even the bathroom feels luxurious. Adore this space. The last time I was there on Friday, they were playing really weird trashy current music. My friends and I were begging for something classy as it was a quieter evening. I wish they'd stick to the theme and play some jazz when there is no live music or event. The parking is horrendous. While you can park at the diner after hours, it's still pretty awful. Always anxious to park on the street. They do try though with the lot. It's hard in that area. Since I love their main drinks, I was excited to see a mocktail section emerge recently. At about $10 a drink, and with a great history of wonderful alcoholic drinks, I was so excited to try them. The bartenders were hurrying us and a bit stand offish despite no crowd. I asked for a less sweet mocktail and was directed to the rum and bitters one. It was disgusting. I basically paid $10 for a trashy pixie stick. If you are going to advertise a whole section of crafted mocktails, at least do them well. When I asked the bartender about it thinking there was a mistake, she was very rude saying "no that's it. That's what you ordered ok?" Yow. Ultimately I do love this spot. It's intimate, cozy and classy. The alcohol drinks are well crafted and amazing. I'd stick to those. Little Jumbo is coming up on its two year anniversary and it looks like it will become a new pillar in our growing choice of cocktail bars. I'm so glad this wonderful spot has a great space just north of downtown that is easy to get to. This classy spot has become a favorite for meeting up with friends and enjoying time after work. It's wonderful that they have bites to eat as well. I do adore this old building, the tile outside the front entrance, the old wood floors, and the decorative ceiling tiles that were once a standard but are hardly ever seen anymore. The space is elegant and friendly. The service is with a smile which leaves you never wanting you leave. This space skips the hustle and bustle of the downtown hotels and draws they right amount of crowd. It's great for a romantic date, to bring family, to have business, to catch up with an old friend or to decompress by yourself. I'm hoping the buildings going up next to this one will enhance this part of town that is expanding into a great gathering spot. read more

We ordered a Hard Boiled Shirt and an 1870 Old Fashioned... both outstanding and mixed with absolute care and expertise. Both sippers and outstanding. It's a members only establishment which is and was fine. Took just a few seconds to become a member. Also proof of vacc' required which we actually appreciated. Wow, love this little bar so much that i wish i could take em home with me. Monday nights are live jazz with no cover- whaaaaat. Get here asap! They have free street parking as well as lots available. We got here around 8 (but it starts at 7, just fyi) and had to wait outside for about 10mins as the bartenders were over capacity which i totally respect. Their menu of potent potables is extensive, yet each drink is created with care, and quite promptly as well, which is a major plus. The ambiance here is quite inviting. Tall ceilings, hard wood floors, with well placed speakers to add a touch of music to the lively atmosphere. The bartenders here are knowledgeable and extremely personable. A friend brought me here a few weeks ago. I absolutely love the place. It has a nice comfortable vibe. I am strictly a social drinker but I have to admit the "Foxyhot" was absolutely wonderful. The weather has been nice lately allowing us to enjoy the outdoor seating. The only thing I would recommend, if it's possible, is to put some plants on the outside area next to Broadway that would be tall enough to block the view of the street. Outside of that, the place is wonderful, the drinks delicious and the staff really nice. They do check for vaccination and do require a mask before entry. I'm good with that. read more

Little jumbo is a little piece of cocktail heaven. We are lucky enough in Asheville to have tons of cocktail bars, even our local restaurants have amazing mixology programs. That is what makes Little Jumbo stand out so much. Whether you are ordering from the extensive menu or you prefer something classic (I'm a martini girl myself) you will be taken away by their thoughtfulness and understanding of flavor. I can't say much about the food since I have only had the cheese boards (which are for sure 5 star) so I would recommend grabbing a cocktail and a small bite before heading to dinner. My friend and I went to Little Jumbo at about 6:30/7 pm on April 26, 2019. We expected to find a larger crowd than the dozen patrons at this intimate craft cocktail hangout on the edge of Asheville's Montford neighborhood. While I sat at a nearby table, he went to the bar to order a round. The two bartenders who were mixing and wiping at the bar area did not initially acknowledge him when he appeared before them, which is customary and has become an expected standard of courtesy. My friend waited for a long 2 minutes, and I glanced to check on him several times. Finally, he turned to me and raised his eyebrows in frustration. I took a good look across the near-empty bar to see what might be causing the delay, but there was nothing unusual, no crunch of drink orders backed up, no frenzied rush on the part of the mixologists, no two or three deep customers waiting to place an order. After another minute, my friend walked back to the table and reported to me, in disbelief, that no one ever spoke to him the whole time he stood there. As he is 6'2", I don't imagine he went unnoticed. I stood up and we walked out, without a word from anyone on staff. The only person we spoke to was the membership sign-up attendee at the door, who did her job of checking and adding our names to the club's roster. In the weeks that have followed, we have noted the variety and consistency of acknowledgements at restaurants, take out franchises on the highway while traveling, and of course, cocktail lounges. Some version of, "Welcome, I'll be right with you..." happens everywhere. Popeye's Louisiana Kitchen in Alabama. Dunkin' Donuts in Swannanoa. Hemingway's Cuba at the Cambria Hotel in Asheville. Sovereign Remedies Craft Cocktails in Asheville. Commander's Palace Restaurant in New Orleans. When a guy walks up to a bar, it's not a joke when there's a complete absence of acknowledgement! It's the easiest thing for servers, mixologists, barbacks, etc. to do, isn't it? Apparently, at Little Jumbo, it isn't easy or normal. I hope this review will alert Little Jumbo management regarding our experience. I cannot imagine that bar/restaurant/hospitality training would fail to emphasize the essential courtesy of acknowledging a customer. Customer Service 101, right?! You lost our business for that day and probably for a while. I have provided the exact date and approximate time of our visit so the Manager might address the situation with the staff on duty. read more

The drinks are spectacular (hello Amaretto Sour, Im talking about you) but it's the people who make this place stand out. This place was a great find! My boyfriend and I stopped in for a drink while visiting Asheville and ended up just staying here for the evening. They service was wonderful, attentive but not too much. There was a live band the evening we were there and they were fantastic! Of course the cocktails were fabulous. We ended up trying a few, including the High Ball Service for two. My boyfriend loved this experience! You get a silver try, with all the items to mix up your drink. I need to tell you about the carrot cake we had. I still think of this cake. It was one of the best slices of cake I have ever eaten. I think they said one of the folks who works there also bakes on the the side? I'm not sure but I would go back based on this cake alone.
