First, let me say that Warren and Anderson are absolutely amazing servers. Full stop. The hubs and I had the pleasure of having them both and loved them. Thanksgiving dinner at Capella was freaking phenomenal. The turkey deserved an applause, and the burger was not to be toyed with. As far as hotel bar and restaurants go, Capella on 9 is taking names. It's very much a hotel bar. The decor was a little lacking but the servers were great. Luke was wonderful. I ordered the Amalthea's Moon and the Capella gin and tonic. The moon drink was just sweet enough. I'd order it again. The G&T was standard- nothing to write home about aside from the massive glass it comes in. My neighbors ordered the Lady Lava Lamp and LOVED it. We also got the patatas bravas- they needed more salt and extra garlic sauce for dipping. But they were crunchy as requested. read more

Beautiful rooftop bar with great view of the downtown area. There are a lot of seatings throughout the place, both indoors and outdoors. I was here on a Saturday night it was bustling but there were plenty of tables around. The menu is mostly Tapas and drinks. I wasn't hungry so just got the crab cakes which tastes good. I got the pom reader which is the only nonalcoholic cocktail they have on the menu and I thought it tasted strong and spiced. The flavor of star anise is very prominent, maybe a bit much for me but it may be tasty for some people. Service was nice and attentive. The main draw is the atmosphere and view. read more

Went to have drinks before dinner. Hubby had a smoked old fashion and approved of the way they make them. He is kind of an old fashion snob and smoked ones he seems to be more judgmental about. Bartender was super helpful. I almost always ordered a bitter drink so I switched and asked for my usual drink of choice, lemon drop martini, which was delicious with the sugar rim. My fiancé had the jungle bird spritz. He isn't a fan of a lot of aperol, which this kind of had, so he ordered food to finish his drink. We stayed at the AC hotel and came up here daily. I don't think we ever ate anything, but it all sounded and looked good. The cocktails were delicious! Service from reservation to seating us was smooth & nice staff. We got seated on the sunset rooftop side. There's plenty of seating inside and also in the back -outside seating. Nope. Came just for drinks and service was agonizingly slow. 20 mins for waiter, another 10 mins for drinks. Ordered drinks and they wanted our credit card up front. We're a couple in our 60's, did we look like we were going to make a run for the elevators? Seriously question this practice for a place that charges $16+ for drinks. The drinks were good, but their "signature" drinks, cannot be altered in anyway (like a little less sweet) because they batch them all ahead of time. And then they run out. The end. No mas. They offer "cocktails from a tap" and I'd expect that they can't alter those in anyway, and they might run out, but I would not expect this from anything on the signature menu. I also felt that $17 for a rum cocktail that was not on their signature menu, was obnoxious. Just have nothing good to say here and absolutely would not return for the slow service, overpriced, and batch made drinks. There's nothing "signature" about this experience. read more

We decided to go all out for date night and this was certainly the place. The food was incredible, rooftop views of the sunset were spectacular, and we were kept warm by an enclosed fire. We started off with the cheese and charcuterie board, pear hug spritz, and AC G&T. Then shared the solo ribeye, patatas bravas, capella wings, winter hash, pan Plano, and tuna tataki. Time got away from us so we needed a late dinner spot without a rez with a great view, and an Asheville resident suggested Capella on 9. There was no one to greet us or direct us on arrival and after standing around a while we asked the bartender if we should just seat ourselves. We ended up tucked in a private corner overlooking the city so all was well. Bar and restaurant are shared open spaces so it's a good spot for when you want a more lively dinner or drink out. A great eclectic crowd mixed with ppl just there for drinks and others there for dinner or both. Friendly service and we really loved the scallops, they were cooked well and the dish had a nice little kick of heat at the end. The crab cakes were just ok. Good amount of crab but just kind of bland. If you have bread pudding on your menu, it is always a "yes" for me so we got the cinnamon croissant bread pudding. It was very good, it was served warm and we enjoyed it but as you can see from the pic, it didn't come with fresh cream or ice cream or any other element so it just missed a bit there. Wrong time maybe? We wanted to come here for drinks and light bites and enjoy the view on the rooftop patio during our foodie night out in Asheville, but the patio was under construction so only part of it was open and the view was mostly construction zone. I have a feeling it will be amazing once completed. Our service was fine, nothing to write about really. As for food and cocktails, we had mixed reviews as well: Spanish Olives - basic - you could easily make this at home. Ceviche was decent, not the best I've ever had, but we did finish it. The Tuna was the star to me - I'd order that again anytime! Our cocktails were also good. I'd give this place a shot again when I'm in town next once the patio is complete, but I think I'd have to convince my ladies of that as they weren't as into it as other spots in town. read more

This was the first time I've dined at this restaurant and it will be my last. As we've had good experiences with thanksgiving dinner out in the past, we tried it again. Big mistake, huge. In addition to per meal price 20% gratuity is added up front charged in advance. Parking was extra $6. Honestly I've had better food in cafeterias. Meat dishes were so dry we had difficulty swallowing and left them uneaten. The appetizers were deviled eggs, sliced cucumbers with something atop and large pieces of vegetables. Nothing was labeled so we guessed at what we chose. The dressing was soupy undercooked it was soupy, potato salad had hard potatoes and seemed to come from a deli. The green beans casserole used pile beans I think. The desserts seemed to come from a big box store. Arriving off the elevator, they took your name, then you were immediately met with 2 lines of people going down one long set of tables (station one) ending with desserts. The second station was turkey and ham which we never visited. After we filled out plates, we walked into a huge conference type room with large round tables set up for ten to choose from. Yes, we ate with strangers. Zero ambiance. If this is the best this hotel/restaurant can do, I suggest they give up serving the public. read more

On small hiccup on the selected wine, which came from an expansive and diverse wine list. The breakfast chorizo tacos were served with some salsa on the side and a side of fruit. The chorizo was some of the best I have ever had. The two tacos were stuffed with lots of chorizo, eggs and guacamole. Excellent. The buffet was again awesome. A wide range of cheeses, fruits, deli meat...like those found in non US countries. Absolutely stunning space to go to for a sunset. Very classy bar with a great drink selection and plenty of tables for setting. Did not check out their food but it looked pretty delicious. I ordered a Manhattan and opted for the classic. Probably should've got the smoked because I later saw they were the same price. The bartender seemed incredibly rushed, even though nobody was behind me. It was pretty small in size but tasted good. Nothing to write home about but definitely a solid choice and decently made cocktail. My partner got a Michelob ultra, which is also pricey, but you're paying for the environment for sure. The views are great at Capella on 9. I just dined here for breakfast and not dinner. The restaurant uses QR codes for the menu but they do have regular menus if you ask. Service was friendly. For the price, I went with the communal Spanish buffet each day as it included the beverages. Although I think I should have ordered off the menu for hotter food. The scrambled eggs on the buffet were cold both days. The first day I thought it was because mine had sat for a little while. But the second day this was not the case and they were still cold. So either the warmer isn't keeping them warm or they were made hours before. Besides the eggs, the buffet had fresh fruit; yogurt; bacon and sausage; cheeses and meats; croissants and breads for toast. I did like the fresh fruit and the croissants. read more

This place is such a great spot!! The seating is first come first serve, so if you want a nice sunset spot, come early and hustle to get a good view. Service is great and food is wonderful. We sat here all night and enjoyed champaign and delish bites. We got the short rib - delicious. Definitely recommend this instead of the ribeye. The gnocchi was some of the best I've ever had, and the kale salad was decent (nothing special). I would 100000% recommend this place to EVERYONE visiting Asheville :) such a fun spot. read more

Chic, trendy Capella on 9 has an amazing rooftop bar that is should be visited by everyone at least once. Killer views, a variety of seating, and segmented such that it never feels crowded Capella on 9 is fun in a high energy vibe way. I mean, they had a DJ at 5 PM on a Tuesday. That doesn't strike me as low key. I came here twice during my visit to Asheville and I loved it both times. The service is great - prompt and cheery - and the drinks were lovely. The Don't Bee Salty was my go-to drink here; the tequila was a nice twist on a Bee's Knees and it was bright and vibrant. I also really liked Kind of a Big Dill - it was different! This was the first time I saw a cocktail with dill as an ingredient and with the cucumber it was a very refreshing drink! The Cloudy Day in Bombay was a bit too subtle for me - I ended up trading this drink with one of my friends because while it was nice it wasn't grand. We ended up speaking with management when we visited as a result of some issues we experienced, and the management staff went above and beyond to accommodate us. It's one of the best rooftop bars/restaurants I've ever been to. I booked my hotel room 2 floors below, not knowing how great this little extra would be. My tequila cocktail didn't disappoint, and my bread pudding really didn't disappoint!! Time it right, and you get a phenomenal view of the sun setting behind the Smokey Mountains. No extra charge. I thought I got a video of UFOs while up here....(Yes, I had been drinking), but it turns out it was a line of Elon Musks Starlink satellites passing overhead. We were excited to come here but sadly it was a less than exciting experience. When we first arrived there was a private party so even though we had reserved outdoor seating we were sat in an inside corner with no view. The host when we arrived who also appeared to be the manager ignored us at first and then apologized said he would take us to our seats got menus and then changed his mind and poured himself a glass of water. That was a little confusing. We sat down and our waiter came to take our drink order. I asked for a recommendation for which of their selection was more of a fruity wine. His answer was "your guess is as good as mine" as he pointed to the menu. Then he suggested I get champagne or offered to go get another server to answer my question. So strange. The food was decent and well prepared. The menu is a bit confusing as it offers tapas that aren't really tapas. We got an entire steak served as a tapa. There was a salad that I thought looked good on the menu - kale with grilled artichokes and cesar dressing. Nope lol .... When it arrived it was spring greens with marinated artichokes and a very flavorless dressing. Our bill was over $100 not including tip and the experience was very subpar I do not recommend if you're looking for an upscale dinner this is not the place imo it felt like a hotel restaurant run by inexperienced staff. read more
