Awful experience. The bouncer didn't recognize that my ID was real, so he asked me when I graduated high school. I don't remember the year. I'm ADHD, neurodivergent, and traveled the world between and since my time in school- so I was honest in saying I didn't recall. I provided my birthdate, my background, offered my passport as an alternative document, and he threatened to hold my ID unless I called the cops. I was devastated that I was about to waste my night calling the police to retrieve my ID- because it was my last night visiting Asheville with my partner before needing to fly back home. Which- I *need* my ID to get back home. He could've even asked for my flight tickets- because TSA didn't have an issue with my government issued State Driver's License. As I searched my phone to provide further proof (whilst he insisted it wasn't me), he began to put me down and complain that it's my fault for holding up the line. Eventually he let me in after proving my signature matched my ID. But I was so distraught, beginning to cry once I was finally inside. It wasn't worth the stress. The crowd inside was very lovely. The bartenders were attentive and hardworking. But the doorman was unnecessarily unkind. Especially when I already was feeling not good about myself that day. To tell me I didn't look like my own ID made my dysmorphia so much worse. I didn't mind that he let regulars cut the line. I didn't mind that he seemed to be partying inside when I left. But you were unkind, sir. And I just wanted to enjoy a pretty bar in a short visit with my partner on my last night here. Sincerely, I was the girl with the blue hair. Two-toned blue hair, same as my ID photo (save for my roots), that I've had for over a decade. You were absolutely displeasurable. And I didn't deserve that just for being a visitor. Tiger mountain is one of my favorite downtown bars! I like crazy weird things. And this place is full of all sorts of strange lamps, awesome artwork and interesting movie reference items. The dance floor isn't huge which is a plus, so you are kinda forced in closer and maybe meet someone new! Don't forget to jump into the photo booth to get some awesome memories with your new friends or old buddies! The bar tenders are super cool and very friendly! If i could give this 0 stars, i absolutely would. My sister is getting married and we came here for her bachelorette party. There were 6 girls. We all opened a tab a piece and had ordered a round each at this point. The bartender goes over to all of the people at the bar and starts talking absolute crap about us to everyone loud enough to where we could hear. At this point everyone in the bar was staring at us. He was saying how he wasn't serving us anymore because we hadn't tipped. May i remind you that you tip at the end when you close your tabs out when paying with cards and we had only had one round still. The entire situation escalated and everyone at the bar including the bartender was yelling at us telling us to get out and they were cussing us all out. We had done absolutely nothing to provoke this behavior beforehand. This place is absolutely trash and the bartender is a total cum glob. I LOVE TIGER MOUNTAIN. My friends and I spent a weekend and Asheville and were looking for a good dance bar, this was the best one we found! The atmosphere is great, a simple dive bar with tons of Christmas lights. The music was amazing - a combination of 80's pop and today's hits. Honestly all was good until we all left. The bartender came and yelled at the entire group about not giving tips when all about maybe one person forgot. At least 4/5 the people who ordered drinks tipped at minimum 20%. I know at one point he got almost 100% tip because because twice we tipped almost what we payed for the drinks. I understand that tips are the money maker for a bartender because I am one. However, I have never came out and yelled at customers for not tipping. Have to love having your legal ID taken because being 18.5 when you graduated in 2019 wouldn't make you 21 3 years later according to the bouncer who checked the same ID to let me in and had no issue with it. We walked to the location Google Maps said, but we found nothing but a boarded up building with a homeless man sleeping in the stoop. I was sad. Oh boy! Where to begin....so I went last night and this place is so freaking scary on so many different levels. 1. The decor is nice and the photo booth is pretty cool, the place has a decent amount of people in it but that's all the positives about this place. 2. Security is one of the biggest embarrassments, they have no clue what they are doing, not a clue. They don't keep track of who hey let in so everytime you go out side you have to pull out your ID and show them to get back in. They definitely let way to many people in at one time, definitely not following the fire codes here. Also they only let 2 guys in for every 5 females they let in.....that's discrimination. I watched a bouncer with glasses "horsecollar" a woman by the jack and drag her backwards cause he wasn't at his post and she walked back in, she spilled her drink on herself and the security didn't even apologize. I witnessed them harass women sexually and physically, they are very dangerous individuals. 2. The Bathrooms are so bad is like something out of a science museum. BLACK MOLD is growing on the toilets and ceiling, one of the bouncers said they don't clean them because it keeps with the theme and the place unique. WHAT IN THE NAME OF GOD?! YOU DONT CLEAN THE BATHROOMS?! There's a strong smell of grime and urine, there's spit, vomit and whatever else you can think of on the walls. I wanted to put rags on the bottom of my shoes just to go in. ITS DISGUSTING! 3. The Bartenders are a joke! A very rude and egotistical mix of male pro ado, they literally ran out of every beer possible....so what do you think they did?! They raised the price of liquor for GUYS ONLY! I ordered a Long Island and the guy said it was gonna be $14 for it?! WHAT? So I decided to do some recon after watching bar rescue so much and sent 2 of my fiends that are girls up to the bar and prefer the same thing, they only got charged $6 for each! They also ordered a shot of jäger and the bartender said "If you both give me your number you can have one for free". What a douche! They ended up fake numbering him just to see if he'd do it, sure enough it worked. I decided to get a jäger shot myself and he said it was $11 for just a shot!!! Education and training as well as an attitude adjustment and good temperament is well needed. Overall this place is unsafe, not just for your physical well being with all the cleaning problems and boneheaded "security" but also for your wallets and self esteem. I really, really like Tiger Mountain. The atmosphere is dark but comfortable, the music (live or otherwise) is generally very good, and the drink selection is a large one. The bar attracts a great crowd. The bartenders aren't the friendliest, but they do their job, and I've never had a bad experience. But MOST IMPORTANTLY: there's a sweet photo booth, and it's cheap. Once I went with a friend on her birthday, and the photo booth hadn't been working, but someone got right in and fixed it quickly when they probably could have easily just put up an "out of order" sign and gotten away with that. I love this place! This is my end the night out spot. Tiger Mountain is probably my favorite bar in Asheville currently. It's one of the only places to really dance and they have a heavy pour. This is definitely more of a weekend spot for a younger crowd. It has a really cool ambiance with a lot of lights and trippy wall decor! They also have a $1 photo booth to document all of your drunken fun! Drink of choice: Blood Orange & Tonic The owner Ned is great! He's often bartending and will make sure you're taken care of. I have never had a bad time at Tiger Mountain. Being new to Asheville, my roommate and I wanted a younger, fun bar to frequent; TM is just that. The drinks are reasonably priced and usually strong, which is a pretty nice bang for your buck. The overall atmosphere is super funky, eclectic, and lively. We've had several good times chilling at the bar, in a retro corner booth, and dancing on the stage/floor. So traumatized! We joined tonight but are in from various parts of the country to spread our mothers ashes. We visited and had a great time, learned it was an 80's dance party, the first to be held there and promised the bartender we would return after dinner. On our return we were ID-ed by a different bouncer and were informed that my sister (who is 45 and a member of this club)'s id was insufficient. She had a govt issued conceal and carry permit which is considered proper id. Obviously she wasn't carrying as we made clear on our previous visit, but had no other id.
