My son is planning to transfer to Miramar College from another community college with hopes of eventually attending UC San Diego. Unfortunately, he had a difficult experience with administration at his previous school, so we were already feeling pretty discouraged and overwhelmed trying to navigate the transfer process. We attempted to contact the counseling office and called several different numbers without any luck. Finally, we tried another number we found on Google, and to our surprise, someone answered. We explained our situation, and the gentleman we spoke with apologized and explained that the entire SDCCD district network was currently down. Even though he worked at an off-site location and had limited access because of the outage, he still took the time to help us. He asked whether we were military affiliated, and when I explained that we were not and had simply found the number online while searching for Miramar counseling, he immediately said, "No problem, I'm here to help you." From that moment on, he went above and beyond. He patiently walked us through everything my son needed to get started with the transfer process and assured us that once the systems were restored, he would follow up with additional links and information. His optimism, kindness, and genuine excitement for my son's future at Miramar College were truly a breath of fresh air. By the end of the conversation, we both felt relieved, encouraged, and excited again about this next chapter. A few days later, just as promised, we received a detailed email with links for transcript evaluation, counseling appointments, financial aid, and additional resources. We want to give a huge thank you to Mr. Ron at the Miramar Base for his professionalism, compassion, and willingness to help complete strangers during a stressful time. People like him make such a difference. We only wish we had base access so we could thank him in person. We sincerely hope Miramar College administration sees this review and recognizes him for the outstanding support and care he provided.

A master of her craft, always smiling, Silke's warm,friendly demeanor is contagious. Silke knows how to conduct her classes so you leave feeling like you have been wonderfully challenged, supported, entertained, encouraged and improved. Now with a strong understanding of the grammar and structure, I am able to form sentences and sing in German! Yay! Silke conducts rather expensive classes, and is a native speaker and strong German grammarian. Her…read moreteaching skills appear to be limited to correction, and that was often mean and offensive. After searching for a local German class for conversation, I tried Silke's, but left in discomfort after just 6 of 10 classes. She made judgements and personal comments on students (appearance, background) and asked questions about their home and personal life, which she used later in criticism and nasty, be- littleling comments in the guise of teaching German! Fun in the class was generally what she made of you. Her negative commentary escalated when a student was absent from class or from 'treffin', a supposedly voluntary activity . Her teaching method involved joy at pitying students (schadenfreude) as a supposed motivator. Perhaps this is her attorney training, but it caused the class to be very cautious in responding to her and inhibited exchange. She has her pet students also (oddly, not based on ability), and this tended to polarize class interaction. The class is held in a small room off her foyer that holds 5-6 people and becomes overheated quickly. She shouts when excited during instructing and correcting students, and this felt more like a prosecutor's interrogation than a class. This class is a price-premium, classical European experience from a former century. The teaching method relies strongly on manipulation and intimidation. Perhaps, it requires more than a teacher's ego to instruct effectively? Caveat Emptor....

Our daughter has been attending LLA since she was 3 and is now 4.5. We are so impressed with how…read moremuch Spanish she speaks coming from a non-Spanish speaking household. It has inspired not only us to learn Spanish but also her grandparents, aunts and uncles. The classes are small, the teachers are wonderful, the activities are engaging. She always comes home with the best stories and (singing, crafts, soccer, water slide in the summers, etc). She's made some of her best friends here as well. As my first baby, I was extremely nervous to put her in any type of care outside of home. I did some extensive research for daycares and pre schools throughout San Marcos and La Costa and out of the 10 + others I interviewed in person, I immediately knew this was the school for us. The teachers and Laura were so kind and supportive to me and my daughter who can be a little bit of a wallflower at first. We plan on sending our son here soon, and know he will absolutely love it!

Course books are very good, additional reading material is well selected to be educational, beyond just language aspect, and her class is always animated w/ discussions on various topics (in Spanish of course). For those of you interested in discovering Mexico, the bonus part is all sorts of events organized by Rosie, including fiestas, frequent trips to Baja and more.
