Best Mexican food in town !!! Don't waste your time going to el toro or jalepeno tree . This is the spot if you want some good tasting Tex Mex !!! From the salsa to your entree you won't be disappointed. Run don't walk folks

    Matador Dinner with Beef Enchiladas

Simply the Best Mexican Food in Texas. I have been coming here for nearly 60 years--since when it had 4 rows of booths, only candlelight and a 2-hour wait. The building has changed, but the food has not. It's just as delicious as always. I've never been disappointed by the service, atmosphere or food. It's my favorite restaurant in East Texas.

Good food Good / Friendly Service A place where you will know most of the people eating. I've eaten a lot of different meals, but the Matador is my favorite. 1 beef enchilada 1 cheese enchilada 1 taco Double Rice 1 CCQ Pickled jalapeño peppers along with chips and salsa. What else do you need? Probably not everyone's favorite, but they are almost like family to us. When you get to Palestine, go to Little Mexico! Go get Full

I have been coming to Palestine for about 4 or 5 years now and have noticed that this place is busy every time that I come to town. I had to see exactly what the big deal was. I was greeted warmly when I arrived and seated immediately by who I believe was probably the owner of the place. It was a nice warm welcome. This restaurant has been here and been in operation since 19 67. It had the look and feel of a retro style Mexican restaurant so I'm not sure how much if any updating has been done over the years. The service was a little slow especially for what I have become accustomed to at most Mexican restaurants. Finally after about 10 minutes of sitting there our waitress came and introduced her self and things went forward from there. After our order was taken it took another 10 to 15 minutes to get our food. Not sure what the delay was because everything we ordered was pretty standard Fair for a Mexican restaurant. We got combo plates but essentially the ingredients of our combo plates were rice and beans and tacos. Everything was okay but absolutely nothing that struck me as I got to come back here for this.

First night in town this trip and Little Mexico was our pick. Hubby isn't from here but out of the nearly 30 years he's been coming here with me & eating Tex-Mex, this has become our favorite! I typically have a cup of Frijoles El Jefe with a CCQ and it fills me up. The Frijoles El Jefe is on both the appetizer & soup menus, cup or a bowl. This is a delicious & hearty dish. Calling it soup doesn't do it justice as it is thick with very little liquid. It's a combination of ground beef, tomatoes, onions, beans, jalapeño & cilantro slow-cooked into a deliciousness that is indescribable. It is topped with cheese & avocado. I wish this was available where I live! Hubby deviated from his favorite chicken tacos & ordered the burritos this time. He had one topped with queso sauce & the other with chili. The queso sauce here is fantastic! The chili is really good but we could only eat so much. There was a LOT of chili on there! That being said, portion sizes are large. I didn't sample the burritos themselves but hubby said they were good. I was too full for anything but the sauces. My mom ordered the chicken pequita fajitas, which is a scaled down fajita platter. Their fajitas are super tasty! Personally I prefer their beef fajitas as they have just a touch of char and are scrumptious. My mom eats chicken so often that I expect she'll be laying eggs at some point. Daddy got the sour cream enchiladas, a favorite of the locals. He was quiet until he cleaned his plate so that's a sign that he enjoyed it because he is a talker! The service here is excellent, the restaurant is clean & the food is fresh.

I love their food, but their cheese dip is way to hot and their hot sauce is way to hot also. I wish they had a mild one on both.

Nothing Vegan. Lots of pork, lard, beef and chicken. Most people rave about their food so why change the menu?

I had the $11 chicken fajita tostada plate and it was bland and just 'meh'. Fajita meat was more like a boiled and seasoned shredded chicken. I broke up the tostadas and mixed it all up like a salad and tried to eat it that way. No water was served to us, only bottled water available for purchase and as we had cold water bottles our entire trip and also waiting in the car, i refused to purchase another three bottles. We don't drink sodas so it made for an extremely dry meal. I know this is a taqueria, but I would have loved to munch on chips and salsa while waiting for our food to come out. Thankfully, it was served quickly. My husband ordered a couple of tacos. A cactus and bean taco with an obscene amount of garlic in which we've been tasting all the way home, and i only had one tiny bite. The other taco, which was supposed to be beef fajita meat was more like chopped brisket with absolutely nothing on the taco with it. Our daughter chose wisely not to order anything to eat. Or drink. She just sat and grinned at our expressions when we took a bite or looked at each other after taking a bite. Two extremely spicy bottle sauces were served with the meal. I guess the sauces were to cover the blandness of the food, but then all you tasted was hot pepper sauce with a severe heat and kick to numb your tastebuds. We like to eat local when we travel through places, but this was a definite disappointment.

We hosted approximately 200 guests in Palestine, TX, and the experience was elevated significantly by your outstanding staff. We specifically want to recognize Hunter, Haley, Yari, and Rolando for their professionalism and dedication. They arrived on time, took the initiative to introduce themselves, and actively participated in our logistics meeting. Throughout the evening, they displayed remarkable teamwork and a genuine commitment to service, greeting our guests with warmth and hospitality. Please also extend our thanks to Maria and the kitchen staff. The food was superb, arriving fresh and hot, and the Tres Leches cake was a particular highlight for our guests.
