food is decent, nothing to write home about. it's over priced tex mex. they sure are proud of it with their prices though. ordering online is an absolute joke as there are no customizations even when the menu item specified multiple choices are available to choose from. you also cannot order sides such as rice and beans or extras salsa etc. annoying and not worth the time. restaurant is nice inside and not many complaints about the staff. if you do eat here i recommend just going inside, not worth the headache of getting a to go order at all. staff gets attitude if you call in over the phone instead of using the website. read more

El Toros used to be really good, but it has changed. They changed their cheese and hot sauce and other things. It just is not the same.

Our service was outstanding and the steak, chicken and shrimp fajita combo was mouthwatering and I loved how they serve it with all the fixings including the red and green salsas....Hello! Make your little tortilla roll and dip the end in the salsas......Delicious!! I really think these are some of the best fajitas I have ever eaten and the shrimp had a very nice texture and was not overcooked. We have friends we visit in Palestine and this is our new go to. Our waitress, Jennifer, was SUPER nice & helpful. We were trying something different tonight than our norm & we were glad we did with her help. Hubby had the Bandido & I had the Pollo Loco!! They were both yummy & also a lot of food. I have truthfully never had anything that I didn't like here. Their charro beans are like homemade cooking. ~ chunks of ham in them. Awesome food, friendly staff! Margaritas are amazing! I regret they are under new management and they shorten the happy hour from ending at 6:30 to 6. Let's be real if I could arrive at 5:30 that would be great but any later u might have to wait to get in and miss it as we did when a party of 20 was in front of us. When ordering our drinks last week it was 6:05 and immediately was told we missed happy hour! I felt like getting up and leaving. I'm sure I should start skipping Friday here and try other Mexican food in town!! I've been going to this place since last May! Happy hour is 2-6, why not 2:30 to 6:30???? The food was great , but our server was not. we didn't see her long enough to catch her name , but she had brown hair and pigtails. Rough day or not shouldn't excuse horrible service, we didnt have drinks the entire meal, a hair in our cheese but couldn't catch her ever to do anything about it. it was just agitating , bc we were looking forward to eating here and left annoyed. This is Cindy Harris I wrote a review last year. Not a good one either. I love the talapia santiago. I dine in. But mostly I pickup my order. At least 2 x a month. I haven't had a problem with my food or the service at the pickup area. Actually it has been very pleasant. Micah she is fabulous. Obviously she wasn't there tonight. I wouldn't be writing this review if she had been. Any way I called at 7:48 5 minute drive. Got to the door by 8. The young lady finished up with car ahead of me.then proceeded to me. Gave my name said it would be ready soon. Let me just say 2 cars that had been behind me got their orders and left . At that time it was around 8 :20 give or take. As she was going back inside I called her over and ask how much longer she went in came out and stated it was coming up. I assumed a couple of minutes but no it was at least 15 more minutes. She brought it out gave me the price I said I usually pay $23.**. Why so much. She shrugged her shoulders and said do you want me to ask. Ok well yeah. I said. She came back and was told me it was packaging fees. I looked at her since when. She shrugged her shoulders at me again. She was leaving to go find out. I said nevermind. Drove home to Westwood. Opened up the food. You'll never guess so I'll tell you. My order was wrong. First off there was no ticket taped to the bag. The only ticket I received was given when I paid I believe no I know I had to ask for that. So I called complained I reluctantly drove back there. Oh the order I received was tropical santiago. Definitely not talapia santiago. She commences to tell me that the tropical is less expensive . As if that would have made it better. Finally manager came out a different young man in a managerial position that he is not qualified or versed in customer service. He had bag in had actually both hands bag all crumpled up. And with that sure this is going to be easy exchange in fact was not. He also tells me me the tropical is cheaper. So I should just be happy about that and go home . Tropical is $21.99 Talapia $19.99 (lunch item) Has a 2.00 up charge. I've always been fine with that. They are in reality the same price. However, the young "manager" Then proceeds to tell me that it was cheaper $21.99 and that the talapia was 27.99. no it is not . I stated I come here every 2 weeks and order the same thing. I said it is a lunch item with a $2.00 up charge. The he stood corrected. And apologized .. am I going to be compensated. For my time and such. It was after nine by then the refunded me $15.00. now I get home this of course is a last minute put together because it was closing time. Needless to say HORRIBLE. THESE YOUNG ADULTS NEED TO UNDERSTAND THE SHRUGGING OF THE SHOULDERS TO A CUSTOMER IS UNACCEPTABLE. AND RUDE TO SAY THE LEAST. TO NOTE WHEN I CALLED IN MY COMPLAINT WHO EVER THIS YOUNG LADY WAS TOLD ME IT WASNT THE FAULT OF THE ONE WHO TOOK MY ORDER IT WAS THEM IN THE BACK. I SAID SHE TOOK MY ORDER REPEATED IT BACK TO ME.YOU WORK OFF OF A POS SYSTEM. SHE PUT MY ORDER IN WRONG. TRYING TO SHIFT THE BLAME THAT TO IS UNACCEPTABLE. AND THEN ONCE AGAIN LETS PUT THIS WELL GROOMED YOUNG MAN IN L WHITE LONG SLEEVE BUTTOM UP WITH A TIE AND GIVE HIM THE ALMIGHTY TITLE OF MANAGER. NO TRAINING IN CUSTOMER SERVICE. This place was busy when we parked but was seated promptly. Our waitress, Lilana, was nice, courteous, and checked on us throughout our dinner. The atmosphere is cozy and the Mexican background music not overly loud but added to the ambiance. The chips crispy and the salsa and guacamole sauce were very good. The man devoured his Fiesta Sombrero dinner and kept raving over it. I had the Tijuana dinner and it was so good. I just want to start out by saying i been coming here for over 18years we got seated fast but our waiter was in no. hurry we order chess dip and we got it cold then we order chicken quesadilla beans and rice it took her 20 to 30 min to bring our food out. beans and rice was hot. but chicken cold IN the last year this place started going down I think maybe new owner or new manager going down hill. read more

I went to the restaurant recently. The food quality was subpar at best, the dish was so salty it tasted like they dumped the entire salt shaker into it, beans were soured, rice was dry, the taco had meat only no condiments for it. Service wasn't customer service at all. Had to wait for water several times. I took about a half a dozen bites of the entire meal, waiting for the waitress to return. She finally returned I told her about the food, she acted like she didn't care. 90% of the meal was left sitting on the plate. She brought me my ticket because I told her it wasn't consumable. The ticket was for the full price of uneatable food. I have been there before but never again. Nasty food at best . It was on a Sunday and the meal was called a Monetary Dinner. Pretty solid Tex Mex joint. We'd stop here again for sure. Super friendly and solid service. Good vibe inside - check out the booths with the windows. Chips were perfect and not greasy at all. Salsa was okay... not quite tomato sauce but not far off. A hint of okay spice. I should has asked if they had a spicy version. My wife and I both had enchiladas and they were very good to excellent. The cheese ones were less than ideal - cheap cheese inside. The shredded chicken ones were excellent, and I def recommend the verde sauce on top. The cherry on top was the free soft-serve ice cream. Perfect! That plus the tortilla making machine made for a perfect kid (and adult!) outing. Great place. Easily above average, but a couple of almost's make for a solid 4 stars instead of the 5. Realistic review here, just strolled in from out of town. Expecting some decent Mexican food for this being Texas. Salsa terrible, taste like it came out of a lunchable. I ordered carne asada tacos, the brought out a skirt steak, that was grey before hitting grill. Everything tasted fast food (Rice and Beans, vegetables) Queso tasted like frito lay gas station canned queso. Food quality not there. Mind you any Mexican restaurant I've been to makes corn tortilla chips in house and they're not stingy with them. We received a literal hand full of shelf bought tortilla chips. Wouldn't recommend going here. No where near authentic. Now the service was good, the beers were good. Except I asked for a salted Dos Equis and they're salted a quarter of the rim. They also used the cilantro crème sauce that was brought up with the chips and Salsa that wasn't bad. Again, the service is what's keeping this at a 2 star but mind you the restaurant was empty. Food is far from good. Food truck/fast food Mexican is surely better than this. read more

Can I just say... don't eat here unless Juan Pasada is here. I ordered the ribeye with stuffed shrimp. Told em I wanted it a couple inches thick and to cook med rare. Server didn't really care when I told her that it was the wrong steak. They sent me a steak that was like maybe a half inch thick and well done. Shrimp was cold and tuff. When I sent the steak back, same little steak came back but this time it was do rare it was almost blue. The manager said it couldn't be helped. At this price, that steak better cure prostate cancer. I was in Palestine, Texas for the first time. I needed a quick place to get lunch with some coworkers. When in Texas and unfamiliar with the area, Tex-Mex is a fairly safe bet. El Toro did not disappoint. We arrive shortly after the lunch hour and were quickly seated. The chips and salsa were brought to the table. They serve both red and green salsa. Both of them are very good although I prefer green salsa. We ordered and our food arrived within 15 minutes. It was very fresh and had a great flavor. What we did eat was pretty standard food so I will give them four stars. On my next visit, I will try something a little more specialized and update my review. Bottom line - Next time I'm in Palestine, I would not hesitate to eat here again. The food was fresh and the service was good. I would like to try a more specialized food next time. However, until then, I do not hesitate to recommend them to you. Bon appétit. read more

We drove from Dallas to Palestine for the day to see where my husband was born and raised as a child in the 70s. I looked up restaurants and this place looked good and had great reviews. IT IS SO GOOD! We were immediately greeted and our server was so friendly. The food came out fast and everything was delicious. We started with chips and queso. I had the taco salad with jalapeno ranch (very good) and my husband had the steak fajitas for one. Everything was so fresh and I love that the tortillas are house-made, makes such a difference in flavor. We didn't have dessert but they all sounded fantastic. I'm glad we stopped by and will do so again next time we are in town. read more

Hostess was very friendly and greeted me as I walked in the door, the waiter wasn't far behind her and he was very cordial and helpful. Nobody was wearing masks which is a bit of a turn off for me I'm pretty sure Covid hasn't skipped Palestine. And a lot of people were coughing. ‍ The food came out quick and was tasty. The place was very busy for lunch today but we were seated immediately. The chips were thin and crispy and the green sauce is delicious. The waitress, Martha, was very helpful and kept the chips and salsa always filled. I ordered off the lunch menu, the Dos plate, which had the best tasting beef tamale, beef enchilada with true tex-mex chili sauce, a chicken taco, and side of Spanish rice and refried beans. I'm not a refried beans fan so they weren't touch but everything else was delicious. Total with tax, $11.25. Would definitely recommend this restaurant if you enjoy good Tex-Mex food with an extensive menu. It also has a bar that serves beer, wine and mixed drinks. read more

I came to this place for the first and last time today. I walked in super excited because it smelled really good but I was disappointed when I got my food. I got 3 enchiladas with rice and beans. The tortilla tasted weird and they put chili on it??? Like chili cheese fries but on enchiladas?? When I read the menu I thought it was chilé like salsa sauce or something BUT I WAS NOT EXPECTING CHILI. It was unusual and tasted bad to me. However the rice and beans were pretty decent. The green salsa was good. Service was good. I just think the food I got was bad... small side note, I went with my family and no one liked the food they ordered . Real Hispanic/Latin people will not enjoy this restaurant. The food is made EXTREMELY Americanized. read more

Excellent food. My visit began with Moe as my waitress who was relieved by Kai at shift change. Both were great, friendly and fast. The margaritas are superb and I always ask for "chunky salsa."
