We're visiting Palestine and this place came highly recommended! It was gorgeous outside, so we sat on the back patio. From there we were able to watch the cook in the outdoor kitchen work while we enjoyed the smells he was creating. I had the boiled shrimp and potatoes. Delicious and just a bite a spice. Wow this is a fantastic place for great food and music. The staff was as good as the food. The steaks were perfectly cooked and the grilled asparagus and grilled broccoli was over the top. The baked potato was huge. The beer was ice cold and then when they brought out the bread pudding for dessert, I thought they were going to have to drag me out of the place. Stumbled upon this gem as a halfway point between Dallas and Nacogdoches to meet for lunch. We couldn't have found a better place! We were a little early so the owner suggested we try the pie next door (OMG! We would've missed that one as well. Oxbow Bakery was featured in Southern Living! So we considered that our appetizer). We walked back next door and sat at one of the picnic tables outside. We ordered the Feast - 5 pounds of crawfish, 3 pounds of shrimp, Alaskan king crab, sausage, potatoes, corn and mushrooms! We are from out of town and my husband found this place after looking at several menus online. Walking in, I knew this place was legit. There were 2 tables open and we found the booth in the corner. Walking to our table we noticed there were several groups of folks visitin', drinkin', and eatin' crawfish. We were immediately excited. Sat down, we were immediately greeted and drink orders were taken. Drinks came and we ordered crab legs, crawfish, shrimp and frog legs. Every single thing that came out was AMAZING. Hambone's greeted us warmly, brought out soda and tea quickly. The server recommended tacos, steak, and etoufee. We ordered the catfish basket and blackened fish with etoufee. Fabulous. The catfish was fresh, and flaky just like it's supposed to be, with a delicious fried coating. The etoufee over blackened fish was excellent - blackened fish was spicy and cooked perfectly, topped by a freshly made creamy etoufee with crawfish tails, shrimp, and small pieces of sausage. We finished off our dinner with a piece of chocolate pound cake. We sat indoors, but there was an active crowd outside in the back enjoying the beautiful fall weather. We were in town and decided to try this place. Looked good. We were informed we could only order boiled items. Something was going on w the fryer. Also no gumbo available. OK no big deal. Ordered shrimp and crab. Beer came in plastic cup which is a deal killer for me. Waitress had mentioned corn, potatoes, sausage etc. None of that came w it I guess. It was confusing. So we ordered all that extra. Food was OK. Had to ask for plates and forks and crab cracker tools. Seemed like waitress was not really communicating anything. Not a fun evening. Went tonight to give local restaurant a chance even though Cajun is not my favorite I admit. Sort of a neat place with inside and outside eating, however setup is more like a mobile setup than a standard restaurant. My son wanted the crawfish chowder and they were out and also said they were out of other crawfish dishes he wanted. We all then ordered catfish dinners and a side/ app of beans and rice. When our meals came we were not given any type of silverware so ate with our fingers. ( thought that was the way we were suppose to so did not ask for any though latter realized they do have plastic utensils). Fish was pretty good and warm not to spicy,and hush puppies and tartar sauce good but spicy. However fries were not very warm and one of my son's was still frozen ( yes frozen) . My wife found a hair in her fish but ate the fish anyway hoping that it had been sterilized when cooked. We did not complain even though we probably should have but have had more important issues to deal with of late . When we checked out however without complaining the employee apologized saying they were short staffed tonight but the place was not that busy. Have little desire to go back can get average catfish at a lot of places and usually without frozen French fries and hair in the fish. I write very few bad reviews if I don't like a restaurant I just let it go and don't go back but I thought if I wrote this it may help them get some problems fixed Ps: Never got our beans and rice app until after we got our meal. read more

We stopped at Hambone's yesterday before reading the yelp reviews, and I'm so glad we did! We had a great dinner. The hostess and owner were wonderful, and they had free beer. It was this last thing that attracted us. I ate the Fish and Shrimp Coubion. This is a tomato based stew served over rice. It had good heat and great flavor. Ghost peppers mixed with other peppers produce a flavorful but not overpowering heat. Of course, the unlimited beer pitcher helped! We didn't stay for the live music, but I wish we'd had time. The back patio seems very inviting, and I look forward to another trip to Palestine. If you have time, stop next door at the general store and grab a piece of pie. They can wrap it up to go. Update: we couldn't resist coming back tonight. The étouffée did not disappoint. The boudin is cooked on a charcoal grill. You have to try it! read more

Never ever go here. Ever. We made the mistake of going on "All you can eat catfish" night. Took 90 minutes to get our food. One chef who has no clue how to process orders. Half the food was cold when we did get it. An owner who doesn't give a rats butt and would rather socialize than help. Waitress never refilled our drinks. TERRIBLE! COLD Crawfish...refrigerator Cold...the ones on top were warm but under ALL the Claws...I got a hold of a refrigerator cold tail. The Corn was even cold. I suffered through it knowing the ...but when I got to the COLD tail I threw in the paper towel. The 3 employees there knew what they were serving and did not care...
