Beautiful little restaurant in an old hotel in downtown Palestine. Nicely appointed and a comfortable, little more upscale place. Service on the night we were there was v-e-r-y slow. It look over 15 minutes for our drinks to be served, and by that time the salads were on the table. Not quite the beginning we had hoped for. Our entrees were all good, duck, pork tenderloin, pappardelle with shrimp and redfish we're all tasty but typical. The price point for each is reasonable for a nicer restaurant, and the wine list is not extensive but the selections and prices are also reasonable. Overall worth the trip if you want something a little different than what you normally find in ETX. Added bonus- the art gallery next to the restaurant is open on Friday and Saturdays and worth checking out. Texas artist David Tripp might be present - his lovely images of Texas are really beautiful!

This place is the bomb... been here twice & the filet with mashed potatoes and asparagus was to die for! I highly recommend & coming & checking it out if you're in the hood! I'm from Austin & usually order seafood... I almost ordered the charcuterie board but when the couple at the bar just got their food- we were like what is that?? And cancelled our appetizers. It was truthfully one of the best steaks I've ever had & I've had Ruth's Chris, Perrys, Bob's Chop House, Trulucks, Eddie V's, III forks, Sullivans, Vince Youngs' steakhouse, Justine's, Filet Mignonetc....

Yelpers, you are spot on! THIS is THE restaurant to enjoy the finest dining of Palestine, Texas! (Actually, perhaps the best in East Texas!) Built 1914 for railroad visitors, the Redlands Hotel has been modernized without losing its soul! It is slightly upscale and don't let the surrounding area cast any doubts on the fabulous food and service you will enjoy!! Our welcome was gracious in a very friendly East Texas way. It felt genuine and with heart! (Tip: ask for Ariel. Absolutely one of the best servers I've experienced in months! She is attentive without being in your way, outgoing, full of energy and smiles plus builds a rapport that few but the skilled at elite fine dining establishments can do. Seriously!) The menu is full of options and while we were seeking to stay on our diet, we were able to have decadent flavors while eating healthy. The Queen Dinner Salad up front set the stage for the super dining experience! With a quality spring mix, it was put over the top with sweet pecans, strawberries, feta cheese and to die for pear vinaigrette! The pecan encrusted salmon I had was the best fish dish I've had in years! (I eat a LOT of fish!) Ariel was close to winning me over to a serving of pecan cobbler, but I knew that would bust my diet as well as belt. (But, oh, was I tempted!) Price was really reasonable for the quality, taste, appearance and elite service! Make sure you ask for Ariel!

Good place with history, good food, and nice people like Ami. Only real complaints are parking and wobbly table.

I went to Skipper's Pier in Gladewater thinking I was just grabbing dinner. Instead, I had one of…read morethose meals that makes you sit quietly for a minute afterward questioning why you ever eat anywhere else. The seafood was ridiculously good. The shrimp were cooked perfectly, the seasoning was on point, and everything came out fresh and hot. I'm convinced somebody in that kitchen has a direct connection to the Gulf because there's no reason seafood in East Texas should taste that good. The place was busy, the staff was hustling, and somehow everything still came out fast. By the end of the meal I was already planning what I was ordering next time before I had even paid the check. If you leave Skipper's hungry, that's honestly a personal decision.

I went here with my dad who was born and raised in the area. He explained that we should go early…read morebecause they can get really busy, really quickly. So we went at around 4:45 in the afternoon on a Friday. There was already a 20-30 minute wait for a table inside, but instant seating on the patio, which we took. I'm breaking this into two scores--the food which is the most important, and the service (not just waitress, but overall). Food 4.5 stars--not perfect, but very good. Service 3.0 After getting seated on the patio we were told the server would be out shortly. After about 15 minutes I went back in to ask for menus--coincidently the person that seated us was telling the server that they had people at our table, so I turned around and went back out. Shortly thereafter we were given menus and we ordered drinks. Dad got 50/50 tea and I got water and a whisky rocks which confused the waitress. "So like, with Coke?" No, ma'am, just the whiskey poured over rocks, whatever your house whiskey is, I'm not that picky. We already knew what we wanted and ordered the catfish filets with fries, and fried okra. The food came quickly, but still no drinks. Eventually those came out. My whiskey was in a larger glass, not a whole lot but enough not to complain. The waitress then asked if I wanted a straw for it because she wasn't sure. She might have been new to service, so I'm not upset, I was more amused. She is working at a bar/restaurant but perhaps the servers are kept seperate and she's not used to running for the bar. The food was excellent. The catfish was freshly fried, the outside a good crunchy crust and the inside darn near dissolved it was so tender and moist, not even a hint of being over or under done. Excellent flavor, it didn't need the house made dips (a tartar and a cocktail sauce, both great), but they complimented it. Tartar was heavy on mayo flavor than traditional tartar, but you could still tell what it was. Cocktail sauce seemed fairly standard, I guess I can't promise that one was house made. Two jalapeno hush puppies came with it. They were standard fair, a little bit of spice, enough to enjoy while letting non-spicy people still tolerate it. Crunch went deep, the center was cooked but a lot less of the ratio than the crunch outside. Fries were also standard, but fried well, good crunch and fluffy inside. Fish was the absolute star, it was "close your eyes and enjoy" good. Fried okra was bland. It was crunch on the outside, soft but not gooey on the inside so they treated it well to reduce the slime, but it didn't stand out from any other fried okra I've had. Wouldn't get it again, but it was cheap. Didn't get checked on very often, I think we were offered drink refills when we asked for the check. Got the bill. Fish plates, $16. Okra side: 3.50. My one ounce of whiskey, TWELVE DOLLARS. I don't know if she rang it in wrong, or if their prices are just ridiculous for that stuff. Lesson learned, don't order alcohol here. But most certainly order the fish. Service lacking, perhaps still learning, fish was absolutely wonderful.

IMO- my dining experience depends greatly on the server. Fortunately, our food was great! We had…read morethe jumbo shrimp and crawfish which were perfectly seasoned and drinks. The drinks are never short on alcohol but what made our experience really stand out was the exceptional service. Our server, Lindsey, was incredible! It was a busy Friday night and she had, what I thought, were too many tables. Despite how packed it was, Lindsey kept our drinks full, remembered every extra request while also staying friendly and upbeat the entire time with all her tables. We could actually hear the others talking about how great she was and how she was "killin it and didn't miss a thing". We're definitely going back for more of their amazing shrimp, crawfish and drinks--and hope we are lucky enough to have the great service we had last time.

We got seated immediately and our drink and food orders were taken right away. We settled in and caught up a bit, then four out of the five orders were delivered to our table. Then we waited and our server assured us that it was going to be out shortly. Come to find out, the order was never placed with the rest of the table and the birthday lady had to wait another 15 minutes for chicken fajitas?!?! Wow, not a word from management, so needless to say we were very disappointed and the festive mood was ruined. They did not offer to comp her lunch. After another 15 minute wait it was packaged togo with a disgruntled manager giving a 50% discount on the fajitas. The manager never came to the table to apologize, the birthday lady had to go talk to the manager to ask for a discount for her meal. What is wrong with the management? Tias, figure out who your manager is that needs to be retrained.
