This restaurant is a great vibe! The food is super good and service is very quick. It was very busy when we got there and it still only took about 15 minutes to get the food after we ordered. The salsa is very mild but chunky and delicious. Lots of vegetarian options too so that was good to see. It's a little pricey for mount pleasant but worth it for the experience. This was a great little find on the town square. The quiet little town is lucky to have such a great restaurant. Very authentic cooking, I had Chilean lime marinated shrimp, that was spicy and tasty. The guacamole is very creamy. The salad, however, Is shredded lettuce. The reminder that it is a small town is that the beverages come in a can, so no refills but they have both Coke and Pepsi products. Small tip for the ladies, the restroom is past the refrigerator, past the kitchen window for food pick up, and on the left. I felt like I was on a treasure hunt. read more

Second time we have stopped here. The first visit was excellent all the way around. (Service, taste, presentation, atmosphere, and cost) The food was the best tasting Mexican food I have ever had! The second visit was equally great! I recommend this restaurant without any hesitation. Try it, you will like it, and tell all of your friends. They will thank you later! My wife asked me to leave a note regarding only awarding 4 Stars. As restaurants go I would award more the 4 stars for e.g a fine French restaurant with exquisite table side service and all other areas of the dining experience being excellent. Ms T and I were looking for a hometown café on the square in Mt Pleasant while on our way through, returning to St Louis. I guess such a thing is in the past. We found Little Mexico and decided that would do just fine. This is a family run local Mexican restaurant. It is very nicely decorated and actually has cloths on the tables. They have a considerable menu including about everything you would expect to see in this kind of place. We really could not test the menu for just a light lunch. What we had was fine but there were some good sounding dishes advertised on the walls, forming part of the decorations. I had chorizo tacos. The chorizo was probably commercial and just OK. I have been spoiled by a few places that either make their own or have a local source. The tacos were served Mexican style with onion, cilantro and lime. Ms T had the Monday special which were soft ground beef tacos, served gringo style with lettuce and cheese. She liked them. The ground meat was lightly seasoned. It was not Old El Paso and it was not unseasoned ground beef. The beans and rice that accompanied them were also acceptable, straight ahead fare. I don't think anyone will be overwhelmed here, but there was no indication of problems or bad food. It really is a nice place and if I lived in Mt Pleasant, I would probably be here frequently, testing the menu. We will remember it for future road trips. read more

Either this place used to be much better based on the age of the last reviews or the reviewers have never experienced good Mexican food before. The salsa was good, albeit mild, that's about where the good ended. The chips were overcooked and we had to request more from a random staff member as the chip guy was busy on his phone the whole time. My shrimp enchiladas were not at all as expected, slathered with some overpowering cheesy sauce, not even hot and a few bits of shell here and there. The rice was completely dried out as if it had been sitting all day. Beans were okay but again not hot. My husband had the special and is generally easy to please but again, not impressed. I guess stick to American food in the middle of Iowa or look for a number of more recent ratings to judge by. Try elsewhere. read more

When I visit MP this is a must-stop for me. My wife was born and raised cooking with her mother and grandmothers in Guadalajara, Mexico. My wife makes amazing food as a result. I typically won't eat hispanic food other than what my wife makes but Little Mexico is the sole exception. I was born and raised in MP and now live in downtown Chicago, I haven't found better Mexican/hispanic food in either Mount Pleasant, or in my travels around the city of Chicago and I've spent many years trying restaurants in the city. I usually spend a month a year in Zapopan, Mexico which is the Guadalajara metro area with my family there which is where you find the the real deal- no Tex-Mex, no pretenders. Of course there are some very unique things in GDL that I've never really seen replicated accurately or at all like carne en su jugo, but trying restaurants around that city, Little Mexico still stands tall in comparison there as well. I've spent months in Spain and France traveling through little towns trying their restaurants as well, if you want to keep something special and top shelf in MP I'd recommend patronizing this place. It would be a real loss if it ever closed. I can't honestly say that for many, if any other restaurants in MP at this time. I eat here probably 5 times a year, but this place is great every time I visit. Since I'm usually out of the area, I call to order gift certificates for my family in the area for birthday gifts. In regards to restaurants, this is the treasure of Mount Pleasant. read more

Little Mexico is one of my favorite restaurants! Ana serves the most succulent, slow-cooked carnitas served up with a pico de gallo with avocado. I now cannot make a pico without avocado thanks to her. Ana is warm and friendly. Some have complained that her serving staff does not speak English well, but Ana does her best to train her staff and gives those who need work a chance. Her con queso with chips is to die for. When I crave a snack, I enjoy the beef or chicken flautas. We also love her margaritas. For special events, she has a party room upstairs. Support a local business owner. Try Little Mexico. Hanging with my Dad one night in Iowa he suggested this restaurant. Given the only other Mexican place I've been to in Iowa is Carlos O'Kelly's (which sucks), I wasn't too optimistic. I had a burrito that was seasoned well and tasted 'fresh'. The margarita was respectable, but nothing to write home about. My first visit there was on a quiet Wed night and the quesadilla were good. Good salsa and chips and also a small bowl of queso which I have not ever gotten free with the chips. This place used to be a lot better. Now it seems like the flavors and quality have gone downhill. The place is unique with the murals on the wall but it can feel really cramped really quickly. Whenever I come in with my boyfriend, it seems like they sit us at the smallest table there and it is too cramped. The margaritas are expensive. A basic, boring margarita will set you back around $6. And it is nothing special. The food is OK, like I said, not too flavorfull. My main problem is the service. I've gone in to eat before and waited twenty minutes to order. And there were maybe two tables in the entire place. They are not friendly as a rule and often just take your order and drop you food off. Now that there is a competing Mexican restaurant in town, you'd think that they'd step their game up but that doesn't seem to be the case. read more

I'm originally from this area and whenever I'm traveling through I like to eat here. Quality, freshness, value, and the attentiveness of the staff always surprise me because it is always so good. I tried something new this time. It is one of The house specialties. I think it is called Chicken Floutas. Im sure I crucified the spelling of this dish. Pure crispy deliciousness. Portion size was just right for me but big eaters might want to add a side. I had a glass of iced tea with my meal and I overtipped a little to make it a round $15 for the visit. I had such high expectations, speaking to Ana she was spot on to deliver a great product. Then the delivery came, food looked great and tasty. So salsa was missing for chips, then got regular beans not black beans okay not a big deal......then open my combo and it was thrown in styrofoam without ANY barrier and the delicious food was charred styrofoam. I also asked for a receipt and it was missing so I checked my account and was charged an additional $7.00. Beware only Ana cares what happens so anyone else doesn't give a shit. read more

When I am in town visiting Mom we never go here. I wasn't sure why so I decided to give it a try. At first I was thinking it was just a miss on her part when chips and salsa were good. I ordered a margarita. It mostly tasted like the margarita mix, not much booze at all. I ordered my food. There was a wait and then the waitress came to verify what I ordered. Uhoh. Finally I get my food and I am not certain it is exactly what I did order but there was pork so at least that part was right. No tortillas, no rice and beans. I mention those and eventually those show up. The rice and beans were not good at all, very bland. The pork had big pieces of fat on it that I had to either eat or cut off. The waitress just brought me my bill without ever checking to see if I actually needed anything. Then seemed put off when I wanted another margarita mix drink. This place rocked. From the time we walked in and were greeted right away and had drinks in no time flat. Then out came the chips and salsa along with another bowl of cheese. The salsa was delicious and the cheese was equally as good. We proceeded to snarf up a few bowls of each. Very happy table.
