If there were a way in which to give ZERO stars I would, but that ONE star can account for the pretty selection of clothes in the store and the ZERO rating would be for the passive aggressive, nasty, demeaning attitude of the owner.
The is my first review of a place of business, but with such inappropriate and entitled behavior towards people, potential customers should know what they are getting in to with this business owner. My daughter needed a custom Communion dress to fit her body type...we went in, the owner measured her and when the dress arrived I couldn't zip it past her waist, it was a wide open V on her back. When I gave a call to discuss with her, she assumed I ordered the dress back in the Fall so I said that she was measured in Feb. She then asked me silly, irrelevant questions, like " Do you know what custom is?" and then made a point to say, "I didn't charge you extra for the custom order." My reply was "I ordered a dress, I simply want a dress that fits and this is at least 3 sizes too small on the top."
I then put her on Facetime where she could see the dress was way off, she asked that I bring it back so that the seamstress could let it out a few inches. Great, I agreed and dropped it off. When she called for me to pick it up a few weeks later, I went in shortly after her call and said "you called me to pick up my daughters dress" and before I could even finish the sentence she says in a loud, nasty voice, "I do 10,000 dresses a year, I don't know who everyone is! What's the name under?" No shit lady....but let me get it all out before you respond yelling at me, the customer. A few weeks later, she called to say the dress was let out, I went in and it didn't look much different....I only asked "where was it taken out?" to which she replied in her typical short, curt manner "seamstress is great, its fine" and so I left.
When I went to try it on my daughter, not much had changed, and I couldn't get the zip up past her lower waist. When I called her back, she acted shocked, so again Facetime 'ed where said she would have to order an entirely new dress, which is appropriate. I asked what the hours are of the store in three different ways (as I am a working Mom) to which she continuously replied (again nasty), "we are here all day, just come whenever!" I said I "needed to know the exact hours Monday through Saturday, so I can make sure I get there when you're open." So finally got the stores operating hours out of her, so painful! She had initially told me to keep the dress then a few days later said that she would pick it up on a Sunday. I let my husband know as I was traveling for work, SHE NEVER CAME it was never mentioned again, and at this point out of sight out of mind (the old dress). I was away the week for work and my husband was away for work the week after that. This will be relevant in a bit.
So Monday, I receive a phone call from her that the dress is in, when can I pick it up. I said Wednesday at 3:30pm, done. Wednesday at 1pm, I receive a text asking what time I am coming to which I replied 3:30 (as discussed). She said the seamstress would not be in until 4pm and "Hopefully it fits." Thanks. My Mom (Grandma) was going to bring my daughter to try on the dress but after the text message (and it now the week before Communion) I made a last min decision to go home from work, get my daughter at school dismissal and bring her myself. As soon as I walk in..."where's the dress?!" at first I was confused then replied that I WASN'T SUPPOSED TO BRING MY DAUGHTER SO DID NOT HAVE THE DRESS AND WOULD BRING IT ANOTHER TIME. Less than 5 minutes later and in front of my daughters she says to me in a confrontational manner, "I just can't believe you didn't bring the (old) dress!" I replied that she hadn't even mentioned the dress since she was a no show at picking it up and to be honest, it wasn't a priority for me in my work travels and home life, my priority was getting my daughter a dress that fits. The owner then went on to tell me she ordered the new dress to which I said, as you should.
I know this is long winded but it wasn't just the rude, demeaning comments it was the way in which she treated me that last time, in front of my daughters and that was the last straw. This woman speaks down to you as if you are less than her. She acts like she's the best (last) gig in town when it comes to Communion dresses, and I didn't say it to you but I hope that you are reading this now: your business is a dime a dozen in NJ. When you run a business, your ONE job is to provide a good/service in the agreed upon manner. What separates you from the other businesses is both customer service and the way in which you run the store specific to checks/balances and efficiency (in my experience, you have neither). Get it right....pay for staff that are competent during busier times, have a checklist in place at pick up where both you and the customer initial (as my friend was NOT given her veil). read more
