At the wee age of…read more10 weeks, our pup was timid and spent the first part of the day hiding under our couch, creating what could have been a pretty awkward and frustrating situation for any photographer. Without any hesitation, Kara got down on our hardwood floors, flat on her stomach, and started shooting from there. I was amazed at how she was willing to do anything it took to get shots she felt proud of and we loved. A dog person herself, Kara was great with our puppy and it was her easy going attitude and positive energy that got Lulu to feel more comfortable. We went on a walk around our neighborhood and Kara captured all that amazing puppy cuteness that I thought was going to be impossible to translate into photos. Kara was creative with ideas and helped me coax Lulu into great "poses" on a park bench, at the top of our stairs, and relaxed on the sidewalk amidst the leaves. It was such a fun day and I could tell Kara enjoyed it too--this girl loves photography, no matter what. Kara made the impossible possible. We now have eternal documentation of a time that flew by. Having her take photos of our little Lulu was such a great decision and I hope other people seek her out for their own precious furry friends, babies, or events in their lives!

Clearly a request to be granted, but fraught with a lot of doubts about how we would show up in photos at this stage of our lives! We researched several photographers and chose Denyce and Something Blue Photography from reviews. We went in for an initial conversation and thus began an incredibly fun, impressive, and thoroughly satisfying experience. My husband had two B&W family photos from the 60's that he treasured and asked Denyce about our creating something that mirrored them. We also wanted color photos for us and our family. Denyce - who very clearly has perfected her art to a high degree and has a trove of knowledge to draw from - was intrigued by the B&W project and was excited about doing it. For the color photos, she asked good questions about what we wanted to convey, where we would use them, and took the time to get to know us. My husband - who was less excited about this project - got completely engaged with it! We quickly decided that we wanted to work with Denyce. The day of the photo session, she had a wonderful person - Korina - come in to do my makeup. I could have done it myself but preferred having someone do it right for the photos. We brought in many possible outfits that Denyce helped us choose from. We laughed a lot as Denyce used different backgrounds in the studio, had us sitting, standing, hugging and many other playful things that relaxed us and brought out our comfort with each other. For the B&W photos, the poses were more serious, and she adapted to lighting - all to mimic the old photos. When we came in to review the photos, we were nervous. What if we didn't like how we looked?? Well, no worry. She had made us look terrific!! She had a good process of helping us cull down all the options and we came down to 5. We ordered prints and she has a mobile app where we could share all 5 with friends and family ("look kids, we actually look pretty darn good!") Cost: Denyce had outlined this to us at the beginning. There is a sitting fee and then the total cost depends on what you order. With the sitting fee you get a credit towards your prints. It was an investment and we found it reasonable and well (!) worth it. We were thrilled. We highly recommend Denyce and Something Blue Photography.

Her package was great, she was reliable and flexible when I asked her about a possible transfer of dates due to corona. Alyssa and my videographer ran the photos well together. (Although they ran very late- but I do not fault her, the timeline could have used some adjusting-non bridal party members should get hair and make up done LAST) Her photos aren't over edited, very natural looking and won't fad out. She worked with my Pinterest photos, letting me pick a handful of them although most them weren't my favorite out of them all. One of my favorite things about working with her was the turn about time. A handful of photos within a few days of the wedding. The blog - a summary of the day (about ~150 photos) within 2 weeks. Then the full gallery within 8 weeks. And my package gave me the rights to print in whatever way. And didn't have an insane up charge like many photographers do for printing but gave me the option if I wanted her to do it. My only critiques was that my ring was very off center in the close ups of my ring, (I should have got it resized) but I wish it had been centered before photographed. And while we were doing our family photos my family noticed a bit of impatience which could have been due to the heat, masks, running behind on photos, the chaos etc. I highly recommend talking to whoever is helping run the day (coordinators, family friend, etc) to help with the flow of photos, or the first look having vow books etc. The family side of the photos could have used an extra set of hands getting the order down (this might not be the case if you included a second shooter I did not) Ex. Smith family photo Ex. Jones family etc. up next. Etc. checking off those must have photos. All in all, my experience with Alyssa was great. She captured everything perfectly. Her turn around time was great and was follow as outlined in the contract. She did a great job of getting all the shots in of the day. She was great with communication, she always replied in a timely manner. I recommend anyone to her looking for a wedding photographer.
