Inside Ham and cheese croissant. Mmm
    Kathryn Y.

A very small bakery with a lot of delicious baked goods! Friendly service too. After perusing the offerings I decided to go savory with ham and cheese croissant. So flaky! Warmed up upon request. Absolutely scrumptious served warm and extremely flaky. Just enough cheesy goodness. I'm sure the ambience of this spot is something but currently the patio is under construction. So, I look forward to visiting when that is done. Yummy cookies too. Left with a sourdough chocolate chip cookie and an oatmeal spice and raisin one. So good!!! Can't wait to go back. SYOY!

Little red hen is a cute local bakery in Whidbey where we stopped for breakfast on our way to deception pass. It was a small store where you could see them rolling the pastries in house! There was a good amount of outdoor seating but it was a little too windy when we went. I love that they had a ton of savory options in addition to the sweet ones since you don't always find those. All of the pastries looked so good we had a tough time deciding what to get. We asked for recommendations on one sweet and one savory and ended up trying the curry chicken hand pie and the marionberry danish (since it's a local berry). The curry chicken filling was well flavored and the danish was delicious. Both were solid recommendations and we loved the flakiness of the pastries so we got a cardamom pastry to go as well! We tried that one the next day so it wasn't as fresh but I liked the balance between the cardamom and the sweetness of the slightly caramelised base!

A quality, quaint bakery with a fun selection! We tried the: 1. Cardamom roll: a strong cardamom flavor and my favorite of the bunch. Would probably pair nicely with some orange jam. 2. Ham and cheese croissant: tasty and what you'd hope for in a croissant with many beautiful, flaky layers. 3. Chocolate chip cookie: a solid and satisfying cookie, no complaints here. 4. Cheese-it: tasted like a white cheddar cheese-it with a tad bit of spice! 5. The Queen Amann special: the apricot jam on this was SO good! I thought all of the pastries had a similar, bread-like taste to them. That being said, I bet they make wonderful bread and would love to try that another time!

A must-stop if you're in Coupeville!!! It's a little shop, and everything is made fresh in-house. There might be a bit of a wait depending on when you go, but the line moves pretty quickly and it's totally worth it. This is more of a grab-and-go kind of spot, but there are a few seats and self-serve iced water outside. Their rosemary scone is probably the best one I've ever had. Not too sweet, and super flavorful. Don't miss this place!

A cool crisp Saturday morning and we were out for a drive on Whitney island. Stopping in Coupeville to wander around and we stumbled going Little Red Hen. While we initially were interested in coffee, we walked in to an active bakery with a small display counter. And everything looked and smelled amazing. So what did we do...sample several products of course. Cardamom roll, savory danish (smoked salmon, cream cheese, on an everything layered crust) and an apple streusel scone. Simple perfect. The cardamom roll was a cross between a kouign aman and a cinnamon roll - so good. The savory danish version of an everything bagel was well done. And the scone - exactly what a scone should be Just off the main street this is a must visit if in Coupeville.

We stopped here to pick up a small breakfast before going for a walk at the Price Sculpture Forest. We got there just a few minutes before open on a Saturday, and a line-up quickly formed behind us. I ended up with a Ham & Cheese Croissant, and it was frankly one of the best ones I've ever had. It was re-warmed, but still incredible flaky. A quality bakery that I would go back to. Note: it's takeout only, with outdoor tables if you want to stick around to eat.

    Cardamom bun: magic

Yes to cardamom bun. It is magic, the lamination top notch, the sweetness understated - especially right out of the oven. Oh, there is other deliciousness. We will be back to take survey in the near future

After grabbing a cup of coffee down the street, I stopped by Little Red Hen Bakery for a pastry. It's a small shop and I wish I tried the bread. I got a Cardamom Roll. It was sweet and good. A little on the harder side as far as texture. Cute spot to sit outside and look towards the water.

A tiny cute bakery where they prepare the breads and croissants right in front of you. No espresso drinks, but an extensive variety of baked goods. All their seating is outdoors with a view of the water in the distance. Friendly service. We ordered: 1. Bacon cheddar scallion scone 2. Chocolate croissant 3. Orange chocolate croissant 4. Almond croissant 5. Rosemary olive boule The scone was moist and the croissants were flaky goodness...but nothing was extraordinary. 3.5 stars

    Cutie pie vs Apple pie!
    Nora K.

Quaint little seaside bakery decked up for the holidays. You can see the bakers working upfront , measuring out the yeast and stacking fresh loaves of bread. Front desk was friendly and local. Food was buttery, rich & flakey. Loot check: 1. Apple pie- big portions; with hints of cinnamon & holidays. 2. Cheese danish- with raspberry jam crusted by candied pastry & studded with large sugar crystals. 3. Beef hand pie- Warming up my heart through that brown paper bag even now. Yum! Heat it up and it'll be the only things you'll need on a cold winters day!

Great bakery in Coupeville, grab a pastry and stroll this quaint town. Maybe you'll get lucky and see a pod of orcas!

I'm usually a little skeptical of themed coffee shops because I worry the drinks will be too gimmicky or way too sweet, so I almost skipped it. So glad I didn't. I was genuinely impressed. The cake was so moist and not overly sweet at all, and the drink was sweet but still had a real coffee flavor instead of just tasting like sugar. The decor and overall vibe were also really cute, and everyone working there was so nice. You can tell a lot of thought goes into the whole experience, and the quality of the drinks and desserts actually backs it up. I'd definitely come back and try a different theme next time. I ordered a Mr. Steph: turkey, salami, pepperjack, pepperoncini, lettuce, onion, mayo, mustard on country bread. The sandwich stood about 2-1/2" to 3" tall when it was lying down. And it tasted great! The country bread was very hearty. The crust was awesome. I had to work to bite through it. I loved it! They also have a small store that has all kinds of food items you won't find in a typical grocery store. I bought a round loaf of Greek Olive Bread that was also very crusty.

Don't let this tiny place fool you, it delivers BIG on quality and flavor. They make their own bread, and their sandwich board is thoughtfully put together to enhance the flavor profiles of all the ingredients. I tried the RBB and the Italian. The most important item of a sandwich is the bread, the 2nd most important- the thickness of the meat. Well, the Italian came on a house-made semolina roll, and the meat was perfectly sliced paper thin. It was the best sandwich I've had since being back home in NYC. The roast beef with blue cheese and horseradish mayo was ridiculous. I will definitely be back when I am back on Whidbey Island... ANYWHERE on the island. This place is worth the drive. Also the prices are very reasonable. They also have a small market with a few aisles of curated goods. I grabbed some Whidbey Island canned tuna for later. Excellent spot, well done. Absolutely zero notes.
