The West Wind Cafe is only open for food service to the workers at the hospital. We tried to get breakfast yesterday and were turned down.

Great food, great prices, friendly and welcoming service. A nice little Cafe... definitely not "hospital cafeteria" food.

The space is cozy and a good vibe for a date night. We loved both of the dishes we tried, especially the scallop risotto. All the seafood was fresh and cooked really well. The miso cod had the perfect crispiness on the skin and the scallops were perfect. All the tabloids went really well together. The cocktails were not bad, but not our favorite part of the meal. Everyone was super friendly and we really appreciated that our server knew exactly when to check in and give us space. He also picked up on the fact that we wanted to share all the dishes so he brought them out one at a time. When we ordered dessert he added in a candle since he knew we were celebrating and brought out extra dessert wine and goodies too! We appreciated the attention to detail :) Definitely a must try in Whidbey!

(And they had a nice, covered outdoor patio seating area, where our dogs were welcome!) However, we were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food! They do have beer and pizza -- but we opted for the salad (healthy) and the Pork Belly (perhaps not so much). Both were five-star delicious! And the view from the patio is also pretty darn nice. We'll be going back!

I mean, wood-fired oven, eclectic ingredients, and local sourcing. What's not to like, right? Well... We ordered the sausage and added their garlic mushroom special topping. While the crust had just the right amount of char, it was really chewy. It may be grown and milled locally, but it lacked the crispness and airiness of a good Napolitano pizza crust. Also, we paid an additional $8 for the mushrooms. There were minuscule amounts on our pizza. There wasn't that much of sausage, either. We ordered a glass of Sangiovese and another of Tempranillo. They were imported and fairly acidic. Why not take advantage of the great WA wines? The guy handling the orders (dark hair and a good amount of ink) was great. He apologized that they had just run out of the Walla Walla onions we wanted to add to our pizza. He gave us a reasonably good estimate of the wait time. When we finished our wines and decided to change our dine-in to to-go, he made it happen with no issues, despite dealing with a long line of people placing orders.

We had a short wait time of about 45 mins, and it was worth every minute. The food was to die for, the atmosphere was warm and comfortable, and (again) the staff was delightful. I wish I had 5 stomachs so I could eat everything on the menu, but I guess I'll just have to come back! If you are looking for a nicer place to celebrate, go on a date, or even just take the family out for dinner, definitely go to Front Street! The view is amazing and everything just went right for us. Next time we will go for lunch so we can sit outside on the patio! Thank you Front Street, and thank you to our server Kayla! You were so awesome!

This is one of my favorite stops on Whidbey, and I'd easily recommend it if you're in the area. PS: Don't forget their dessert. So good.

We wanted a place to watch the World Cup game that was on, and they definitely had it playing. Their tv's are a little small, but well positioned for all the tables/booths. The staff was very friendly, but seemed rushed/preoccupied most of the afternoon. I totally understand the lunch rush, plus the game, but we felt forgotten about a few times. Also, this kind of led into a couple small items we ordered being forgotten about. HOWEVER, we did get our main entrees and drinks, and those were so amazing. I wanted to try everything on the menu! While we were waiting for a table we actually met a few locals and they praised Toby's! We were just a little disappointed with the service, but everyone was super friendly! I ordered the 8 oz sirloin steak and asked for it to be prepared medium rare. I declined the side-salad due to dietary restrictions. However I had no problem eating the steak fries and sourdough toast. I was pleasantly surprised when I saw a portion of horseradish included. Take care with the horseradish because it is very potent! Fortunately I enjoy very potent horseradish and happily ate it with my steak. The steak was cooked perfectly and was juicy and tasty. I was not disappointed in any way with my meal. I did regret not ordering a red wine though. If I had it to do over I would have indulged.
