I was looking for any type of host plant for my Black Swallowtail caterpillars and Little Red Wagon had my choice of Rue or Wild Lime! What a great nursery that I had my choice! It was so fun to walk around and see all of the unique plants and descriptions of what type of bird or butterfly is attracted to them. I could spend hours just learning. We took a special walk through their bug and reptile area. I did not think I would linger there but found myself very interested in what they have. Everything is clean and well maintained. They have a special butterfly taxidermy area that is also worth opening the drawers to view. I was there for the open butterfly garden and it didn't disappoint. Since they are not trapped there, it is all natural and the butterflies come and go. We saw quite a few in a very short time. I thought I knew a lot about butterfly's that I host in my own garden but wow I learned much more! They have a wonderful gift shop as you are walking out of the exhibit. I like all of the variety and the staff is nice... when I walked in, Max greeted me after I was already perusing around and I spoke with him about a couple of things I was interested in that were not stocked. Someone got back with me a few days later and left a message. Nice that I actually got the call back. Some places I've been to, I did not receive a call back on being able to source a couple of things. I would definitely come back and purchase some plants. read more

I have visited a few times, and every time, the staff are incredibly helpful. They have one of the best diverse selections of native plants in the area. The information on the signs is great if you are interested in attracting wildlife. The ever expanding reptile/insect/amphibian collection is so fun and definitely worth the cost to explore. The animals are well cared for with great enclosures. It's a great opportunity to see some of Florida's amazing non venomous, native snakes up close. read more

An awesome little nursery/critter collection! They have a wide variety of native plants for sale, with signs describing their care needs. They really pack a lot into a relatively small area! They also have an indoor area where you check out. This is where you can buy a ticket to see the animals. It was about $10 per person, and definitely worth it in my opinion. Lots of insects, arachnids, reptiles, and amphibians. All of their enclosures made to meet the needs of each species. This area leads to an outdoor butterfly garden planted with many of the native plants that are for sale. They also have a small carnivorous garden planted in cute up-cycled containers. Staff were super helpful with questions about the plants, and would walk around with some of the reptiles, giving both customers and the reptiles additional enrichment. read more

I had fun shopping here for a native butterfly host plant. I have native pipevine in my back yard that I planted and tended to ever since we moved here. It was huge and attracts beautiful pipevine swallowtails! Unfortunately, it was chopped down by accident by tree trimmers and I'm trying to bring it back to life from ground zero. Time to buy another pipevine but it's very hard to find. I thought we could get it in 'Sarasota at Florida Native Plants but they don't carry it any more. This place was recommended by trusted yelpers Rachel and Karen so, when I was in Tampa, I called ahead and found out they had one for sale! Zoomed over and bought it on the spot for a reasonable price. Soon, I will have beautiful swallowtail butterflies all over our yard again! The best part about native plants is you don't have to water them and they grow enormous root systems so they can stay hydrated no matter how hot or dry it gets. Thanks Little Red Wagon! They get 5 stars from me because it's more than just a native plant nursery. I was also surprised that they had so many butterfly host plants that I could only dream of having in my garden one day. Along with many nectar plants that would please a large amount of butterflies, bees, moths, hummingbirds, and just all types of birds in general. I was also happy to see that they were breeding south Florida butterflies such as Julia and I think I even saw a Miami Blue butterfly (or maybe a butterfly that looks like it). I've never seen either butterfly in the Tampa area. What is so cool is that they have an indoor area where they have these butterflies in various stages of their life cycle. They also had reptiles in aquariums at my last visit. It's totally educational. I think what really got my attention was the various pawpaw shrubs and trees. I've been wanting to attract more zebra swallowtails to my garden and this is the way to do it. I just want a smaller or dwarf variety of pawpaw that doesn't produce a lot of fruit. They didn't have the flag pawpaw but I was told they do get them from time to time. They did have a small flower pawpaw but they warned me that the tap root is quite long so you have to make sure you plant it in the right spot because you won't be able move it anywhere once that plant is established. The staff is so very knowledgeable and friendly. I did end up getting a couple of Stoke's Aster plants. One of them is already blooming after I planted it. It's such a pretty flower. They have an awesome website as well that shows what they have in stock. I'm going to keep checking it periodically for the flag pawpaw. This store is a wonderful gem to everyone in the Tampa area. Our area needs more native plants and they have a beautiful and varied selection for anyone with space (unfortunately it's focused more towards people with yards than apartments). My favorite part is the education area on butterflies and native animals. I brought my three year old for her afternoon adventure and we had a blast! Jessa was an incredible employee and interpreter for us, introducing some of their favorites and giving us context on the individual animals. We even got to meet "Brick", a red rat snake that they were working with. This amazing resource deserves the full support of our community! read more

Wonderful local plant shop that specializes in native Florida plants and butterfly gardens. The employees are friendly and helpful.

These plants are mentioned to be drought tolerate on the label though I watered them or left the smaller ones in a pot with an inch of water at the bottom. No matter what I did, they began looking unhealthy or getting smaller and smaller or deteriorated into almost nothing, even when I planted and watered them. I cant take a photo of nothing but perhaps I have the empty pots somewhere. The only thing looking good is the elderberry, still in the original pot as I haven't been decided a spot for it yet. These that whittle away were drought tolerate though I watered them when I watered the elderberry. The purple thistle leaves have brown spots in them are are simply unhealthy looking. I would think FF plants would do better than random cuttings I received from friends. read more

We took our homeschool pod to the reptile and pollinators class and we were not disappointed. Ms. Anita Camacho and the staff are passionate environmental educators. Our kids learned a lot. We were impressed by the knowledgeable staff including a USF environmental studies graduate student. I've been looking for a native nursery for years! I'm so thrilled this place opened last year. I just learned about it last week. I immediately place an order after I read an article online about it in the local newspaper. I've always wanted to create a garden with native plants and flowers to attract pollinators. I bought 9 plants last week for pick up and planted them a few days later on a weekend. They're in great shape. I'm hoping my 3 porter weed recover as they're a bit shriveled up. I'm going to contact them to see if they have any suggestions. It could be me because I'm still a novice. I've only been gardening for about 3-4 years now. I have since ordered about 8-9 more plants for pick up. The nursery has many different things, gift shop is adorable, staff are helpful, and I look forward to continue to purchase plants here. The butterfly garden was closed when I went the first time for maintenance. I hope to return and it'll be opened. My 5 year old was bummed about not getting to see it. The price point is good too.
