July 10, 2014. While fishing with an old friend Gill Valentine ,he and I were talking about the fishing in Boston Harbor with Capt. Jason Colby of Little sisters fishing charters,.not just fishing. But winter flounder fishing. We talked about going on a fishing trip several times and finally we decided to go on July 10. This was an open boat trip. The way it works is the captain has some openings for fishing just call for a spot. .We arrived at the dock 10 or 15 min. before the scheduled charter, which was 6 AM only to find Capt. Jason scouting around getting things ready for today's trip it would be six fisherman on board today. Jason makes everyone feel comfortable right from the beginning before we leave the dock. Introducing each new angler to the other. It wasn't long before were within sight of our first stop. Jason set the anchor and soon we were fishing for big flounder. We decided at the top of trip ,15 inch would be a minimum keeper. Fishing was slower than he liked at the first drop. Jason didn't hesitate to move on to new grounds. Soon fish are so coming over the side steadily. We managed to catch the limit of all good size flounder, and Jason was working on cleaning the fillets. I watched Jason for several minutes and during that period time he filleted dozens fish. I've never seen anyone clean any fish that fast. Each angler,leaving the day with a nice big bag of fillets, were just so good . It was a great day on the water. Made some new friends had some good fishing. This is my second year in a row making the trek up to "Little Sister" and Jason.The first year the fishing was tough all around but Jason kept working at it to scrap together a catch.Even though he does it day in and day out the enthusiasm is never lost and being a fisherman who logged a lot of hours on boats including my own I know when the captain is thinking and burning wood and he thinks out every move ,knows where to drift and in what wind and has plenty of backup plans in case. That is the sign of a great captain. This year by the way we pounded them, not quite like the old days, but fairly close as our memories may sometimes not be totally accurate in the fishing world. I have been flounder fishing with Capt. Jason Colby for the past two seasons. I crew with my old buddies from NY. It is a 467 mile one-way drive for me as I live in Arlington, VA. The fact that I have done this multiple times is a testament to the fine job Jason does and the good time had by all on our trips. I have limited on all the trips and have had a blast doing it. I have been fishing with Captain Jason for at least 10 years - every summer I would book Jason for Quincy Striper Fishing (I live in Florida) - at least twice a summer. When he added Westport to his list of ports - I made a special effort to visit in the fall for EXCELLENT bottom fishing - TAUTOG and Sea Bass. If you want Boston flounder Little Sister if your charter! I went out in the Spring of 2013 with Capt Jason Colby and we had a great trip. The water was still cold but he put us on the flounder and his chum kept them biting. Everyone who fished hard limited out. I grew up fishing flounder in Quincy and Jason know's Boston flounder fishing better than anyone I've ever fished with. Captain Colby, or Jason, knows these waters better than anyone I've fished with before. He goes out of his way to find the fish we want. My dad and I have been fishing with him for several years - both private charters and open boat. We've yet to have a disappointing trip out. Even if the first aren't biting - Jason doesn't give up. I have fished with Captain Jason twice and can say with certainty that he is "the" expert flounder fishing captain in all of the Boston area! He knows the hot spots to fish in and where to be based on the tides. We have traveled twice from NJ to fish with him, totaling 4 charters, and he has put us on big fish and limit catches every time. i have fished with Capt Colby for years now in Quincy and have enjoyed every trip. his vast knowledge of the area helps get you on the bite along with the right equipment if you need it combine to make the trip enjoyable.
