This is a park that you have to pay to get in, but I was pleasantly surprised that for solo drivers, they charge you a dollar less than for a group. As I arrived with food, I was thrilled that the parking lot delivered an ample series of picnic tables just before the dunes leading to the beach. Despite the dunes, it was extremely windy and tough to keep food under control, but I liked the fresh air. The beach itself was longer than I had time for, but good quality oceanic beach with lots of shells and a vast distance that was not full even on what one would assume would be a busy weekend given the nice weather. There were inland areas to visit and some trails and camping as well.

I enjoy sneaking away to Amelia Island when I need to visit family in the Jacksonville area. And since I love nature so much Little Talbot and Big Talbot are two of my favorite nearby nature spots to sneak away to. Little Talbot is just as you'd guess it to be, smaller in size than its neighboring Big Talbot Island State. Both are beautiful and offer trails and beaches to explore. I love spotting Gopher Tortoise along the beach and picking through the shell covered beaches.

5 star beauty, but 3 star campsites. My recent visit left mixed feelings about Little Talbot SP. i took my bike & enjoyed the Timucuan Trail that runs through the park and up to Amelia Island. The coastline is beautiful & the driftwood on the beach gives you a feeling of Florida's past before development. That image gets shattered as you near Mayport & the shipping zone - but that area is interesting in its own way. I only stayed 1 night, and that was long enough in the campground. The bathroom/shower area was clean and easily accessible. But the campsites were cramped & too close together. There were no barriers between sites, so neighbors were included even when not invited. The sites are between the marsh & the highway. Lots of bugs & probably affected by tides. Cars on the highway could be heard through the night. I'll return again, without staying over. Fortunately it's close, but seems a world away!

One of my favorite beaches and state park in Florida. We were in Jacksonville and wanted to swing by here. There is a $5 fee to go in by car. We spent a few hours here walking down the beach. The water is nice and the sand is clean for the most part. There are a lot of shells. They have sand dollars here. I was trying to find one completely intact but wasn't successful. I believe you need to come earlier for that. The beach is beautiful and peaceful. Not very crowded which is a huge plus for me.

When I feel like a moderate walk through the woods and the beach I head to Little Talbot. It's $5 to enter the state park but it's worth it because the picnic areas and the restrooms are always clean, the boardwalk is well maintained and the beach is perfect. I like to park and then walk to the entrance to start my walk through the forest, it's about 1.5 miles of forrest and then you hit the beach. Walking through the different ecological environments is cool and I always see a gopher tortoise or two by the time we hit the dunes and beachside. It's another 1-1.5 miles or so to walk the beach and loop back to the parking area. The water is blue, the sand is beige and there's plenty of shells for shell lovers. I really like this beach because it doesn't get as crowded as some of the others and the loop walk is the perfect combo of trees and ocean. Sometimes I bring my beach chair and head straight to the beach to read a book and listen to the ocean, no forest walk needed.

My family loves the great outdoors and this little hidden gem fit the bill. The beaches, walkways and restrooms are clean. There is plenty of picnic tables and pavilion for family gathering and miles and miles of beach front. I highly recommend spending some time with loved ones at this beautiful Florida State Park.

Gorgeous park! A huge wide beach with no buildings or condos! Thank you, state of Florida, for preserving this land for all to enjoy! Nice clean restrooms with real toilets. A great walking trail - bring bug spray!

Being new to Florida I knew I needed to check out this island. I was extremely happy with what I saw the beach is extremely long, very open and just a beautiful place to just sit in your chair or just listen to music and go for a long walk. Give this place a try

We enjoyed a lovely beach-side hike here at Little Talbot. The beach is quiet and stretches for miles. Some parts of the beach seem untouched. There are numerous beautiful shells and occasional sharks teeth to look for in the sand. Parts of the beach have driftwood branches. There are many turtle nests. We hiked the trail loop which took a little over an hour and spanned about 3.5 miles. The trail is shaded in the woods and very peaceful. We didn't see any other people on the trail. The afternoon thunderstorm held off while we were on our little hike. Overall, we had a great time.

Sept 2019 Today we decided to check out beach at Little Talbot. It was near high tide but there was enough beach to walk on. Still a sea turtle nest that had been washed over several times.. hope some turtles made it. There were several large jelly fish washed up ; maybe waiting for turtles to erupt because they eat jellyfish! They have different shells then other beaches in the area and the park services don't manicure the beach.. it is a natural beach with trees falling if that what happens!

As the saying goes, "The quieter you become the more you can hear." Which is what drove me to Little Talbot Island State Park to distance my myself from my daily routines and focus my mind, body, and soul (via yoga.) I've visited this state park numerous of times and have always found it very relaxing and majority quite with just a few people or families who seem to visit this park for the same reasons. The park rangers are always attentive with their job performance and welcoming. I don't have a favorite location on island but, if you want the most tranquil spot with fewer people, I would suggest traveling to the very end of the island. The walk is quite extensive which there's a sign that warns you of the walking distance before you take he hike but, once you make it the the shoreline, you would fall in love with the view. During my visit, this time, I stumbled upon a garter snake and knowing their not as harmful as of other snakes - I couldn't help but pretend as if I was a tree just to let it pass by (as it wasn't even paying me any attention.) Then I beelined straight to my car, LOL! Thank God this was on my return back to my car after my meditation. LOL!

Great place to go and to take family! They have great walking/biking trails! Lots of open beach with so many seashells! Shelters, restrooms, grill areas.

LTI is a state park that provides an undeveloped, uncrowded and gorgeous beach. For a $5 per car entry (up to 8 people) you have plenty of parking, restrooms and showers, and public shared use pavilions. We parked at the southern most entry, where parking was plentiful even at 1pm. The walk is a bit lengthy, especially as the path isn't direct because of dune restoration in process that you need to circumvent. But the tide pools are perfect for little ones, the view without anything visible behind the dunes is unmatched, and the ease of finding a spot without crowds is perfect. It takes me about 15 mins more to get to LTI than to other beaches, but it's well worth the drive when my kids are with me and/or when I want a more peaceful beach day where you hear the birds and waves more than people or music.

    Laying out...never really crowded here

The water looks dark blue from afar when the sky is very cerulean blue but it's murky when you are inside the water. You literally cannot see your own hands when you're inside the water. The water looks black when it's overcast. The boardwalk is not full and or very long. Also, there are lots of homeless people living under the fishing pier. I was on the 5th floor of the beach front hotel when I witnessed a brawl between some of them. A group of homeless were kicking out a homeless man and woman because they had gone to their "terf" and complained about the bags of feces. And the group of homeless kicked them out and said that it was their "terf" and threw fist up and followed them all the way to the boardwalk and made sure that they left their "terf." They were ready to go to blows. This problem has been for many years; I remember coming when I was a little kid and the homeless making a ruckus about people going under the pier or using the pier for shade. Also, the homeless take a bath in the public fresh water showers and it's disturbing. I saw two of them bathing with the shower and they were using paper as a scrub and leaving the papers there; it's disgusting. What I didn't see at the boardwalk and beach was a police presence. Also, the homeless walk the beach the whole night with flashlights and in mass. In my opinion it's dangerous for tourist, especially for women to walk in the dark of the night in this public space. I would have loved to take a night stroll by the beach shore but I opted out of that after seeing these homeless men walking up and down the beach shore all night.

First off, the free parking deserves its own standing ovation. Pull in, park, no stress, no drama, no circling like you are hunting for buried treasure. That alone already put everyone in a good mood. But the real star of the day was the ocean. The Atlantic Ocean was doing its thing like it always does, loud, endless, and a little dramatic in the best way. The waves would roll in all calm and pretty, and then suddenly act like they had something to prove when they hit the shore. My family spent half the time just watching the water like it was a live show we all agreed to attend. The kids were running in and out of the surf like the ocean was a game level they were trying to beat. Meanwhile the adults were pretending to be chill but really just trying not to get knocked over by surprise waves or lose a sandal to the sea forever. There was something about standing there with salt air, wind blowing, and that huge stretch of ocean in front of us that made everything feel simple in the best way. No schedules, no rush, just waves, laughs, and somebody always saying "don't go too far!" We ate, we laughed, we got sandy in places we will not discuss in public, and we loved every minute of it. Five stars. Great KY family day, perfect Atlantic Ocean views, and free parking that should honestly be illegal for how convenient it was.

Considering how busy the beach can get at times I'm not going to say there will always be a space open, but your chances of finding a parking space are much better than other beachfront parks...and it's free. If you are in the park a little after dusk and/or before the first light, please know the parking lot has lighting for safety. Aside from the above, there are sheltered picnic areas, a large grassy area for just chillin' or playin' around, a sand volleyball court, and educational information signs about the area/Jacksonville Beach. Plus, there are concrete figures for you to enjoy, take pictures of or selfies, kids to play on, or whatever.
