Prospect Hill Cemetery in York, Pennsylvania is a historic cemetery that was documented by the Historic American Landscapes Survey. Founded in 1849, is the final resting place for soldiers from every American war. My cousin's husband was buried today at Pritts. My cousin has severe mental health issues. She…read morecould not attend the viewing or the funeral. She asked to view her husband after dark. My mom made the request. The door man was very nice. The manager said in a very rude and condescending tone, "We can't do that. We'd have to charge the family more money." My mom said, "she'll only leave the house after dark." The manager, seemingly over the conversation said, "If she was waiting in the parking lot, we'd let her in." It was 7pm and still daylight. I said, "She had a severe mental health issue and won't come out..." at which point the manager cut me off by walking away and yelled over his shoulder "Time is money." This was also the first viewing I ever attended where, at the end of viewing hours, the manager made the announcement, "Viewing hours are over. Please make your way to the door." I don't have a problem with the extra charge or anything like that. It was the way that he spoke to people mourning the loss of a loved one. I would have had no problem if he said, "I understand. If you need to do that we'd have to charge an additional whatever." Instead, he chose to be rude and completely uncaring. I promise no one else in my family will be laid out at Pritts.
