When my home was built 24+ years ago I bought my initial fixtures from them A Shoenbeck Chandelier and dining room chandelier as well as several ceiling fans & fixtures, which many of these items are still in use today. We are beyond pleased with the customer service and our custom purchase from Dawn and Steve! Dawn spent hours with us discussing all the nuances of lighting, fans and LED details so we could make an informed decision. She did not pressure us to make a decision the first day but encouraged us to go home and think about the design. Steve had added this light to this fan which was on display and we were enamored upon walking into the store. We came back the next week and put in our order! It is beautiful and lights up (and dims down!) the island and the kitchen perfectly. The fan is amazing to have in the kitchen while I am cooking, I can't wait until I can try it during summer! Yesterday I moved and a vintage crystal lamp, a family heirloom that is very precious to me, became wobbly. I took it to Steve at Littman Bros. He was terrific. Because the wiring was old he rewired with all new parts in one day. In fact, the next day I brought him the twin lamp to do the same. Both Steve and Dawn are so friendly and efficient. I am extremely grateful. My suggestion to anyone who has older lamps - go to them and rewire. I was in a fire decades ago - trust me you never want an electrical fire. Safety first. I haven't been in here for a decade and when I tried to stop in Christmas Eve, I saw they're on a well deserved vacation. I first met Dawn in the early 90's and I still have a Casablanca Fan I got from them in '92, (first year for a comfort touch remote) that's going strong. (it has traveled with me when I've moved 3 times in the last 21 years) At that time, this was one of four Littman Brothers locations and Dawn was always sweet to her customers. Dawn has owned this location since 2000 and her knowledge on lighting and ceiling fans is something to marvel over. I will be stopping back in to this location again when in the area. I've used Littman Brothers twice for lighting needs in my home. My first experience was very pleasant and the owner is very knowledge and helpful in helping determine your lighting needs. I bought 3 high end ceiling fans along with fixtures for my kitchen and bathrooms. The recommended electrician was great and someone I will continue to use. The equipment that was sold to me was excellent except for the wall switches which according to the business owner were susceptible to power surges. Within 6 months, I had to replace them and I expected the business to just swap them out for me. Not being an electrician, I wanted to buy the switches, replace them at the same time of installing them, so they would be done exactly as the electrician had installed them the first time. Being that I bought the replacement switches first and returned the defective switches, she charged me some type of fee on the return. This was irritating but I still want to support local businesses, so I let it go, knowing that the owner maybe required to ship the products back to the wholesaler. My second experience was redoing my entire new home. It's an older home with lighting needs. We installed pot lights throughout the house and in the bathroom, we wanted a fixture to match the decor of the house. I purchased a recommended fixture from Littman Bros and took the fixture home. On the day our electrician showed up to install the fixture, he suggested dropping in another pot light and forgoing the fixture. I had the fixture for less than 7 days at the time and decided to return it. When I arrived at the store, there was a sign that stated the store was closed for the holidays through Jan 5th. The date was the 19th of December when I returned the product. I was leaving that Saturday for a two week vacation. When I returned after the 5th of Jan, I attempted to return the product and was charged a restocking fee. I explained the sign, she told me they had been open on the 21st and therefore I had to pay the restocking fee. The may have been true that they were open on the 22nd but on the 20th they were closed and the door was locked during business hours. If you were indeed going to be open on the 21st why would you have a sign on your door on the 19th of December stating you were closed through Jan 5th? If she had just stated that it was their policy to charge the fee, I would have just paid it to support a small business. But because of this bizarre exchange to keep 12 dollars, she has lost my future business and recommendations to my neighbors and coworkers on where to purchase high end lighting fixtures and fans. I am not sure if they read their reviews or not but I hope they consider transparency in the future to build trust and respect with their new and returning customers. read more

"You were so annoying." Yup, that was the reason Dawn said she gave me a good price on three ceiling fans and switches. She made is seem like she was doing us a favor, and had sold me her products at a loss, because, well, I was "annoying." Yeah, right. She sold me a couple accessory switches at cost, to get a deal with solid margin overall done. It's done all the time. During the sales process, Dawn couldn't have been nicer. In fact, we really enjoyed our experience, and told ourselves that we should support more local small businesses in the future. "If you have any problems, my name is Dawn and you know just where to find me, I've been here for 20 years." Well, we had a problem, and suddenly, Dawn wasn't so friendly. "Our return policy is 10 days, but I'll make an exception." It had been about 14 days, and wow, how gracious of you. And what a gracious return policy for an unopened, unused item. When we got to the store to exchange just a switch, we couldn't even get a straight answer on how much anything costs--good luck finding a price tag on anything at Littman Brothers. The prices we were quoted the last time we were in the store had suddenly changed, and Dawn made it seem like she was doing us a favor in the first place. "You were so annoying." Remember, that's why Dawn gave us a good price, like we forced her to do something. It's funny she didn't mention how annoying we were as she rang us up for over $1500 worth of her products. "You were so annoying." She told me, and then after I looked at her incredulously, she claimed she was joking. I knew it wasn't a joke, she soon apologized and I honestly tried to let it go. But Dawn couldn't. "Do you work with customers?" Dawn asked, implying that anyone who works with customers finds them annoying. Yes, and never in a million years would I tell them they were annoying. After I was handed my receipt and walked towards the door, I realized I had been given wrong paperwork. "You don't understand how annoying they were," she told her associate thinking I had left the store. The truth about how Dawn feels about her customers was out for sure now. If you decide to shop at Littman Brothers of Morton Grove, I would recommend "annoying" Dawn. And by annoying her, I just mean negotiate respectfully, like we did. You know this place doesn't have price tags for a reason. If you are a savvy consumer you'll get a better price, but they'll try to rip off as many as they can who take the first price they offer. So be "annoying," you'll save money. Me? I'll annoy someone else with our business in the future. read more

We purchased all of our light fixtures and bathroom dispensers for our new home a couple of years ago at Littman. The owner was very helpful and cordial at the time of purchase, however, when we had to return something that did not work correctly - she was very rude and irritated that we ask for the item to be replaced. I've been in the store several times and each time was treated like a bother. I went in the store today to purchase light bulbs for the a light fixture we purchased there and to look for a new dining room chandelier. The owner was busy with another customer. I didn't expect to be waited on immediately and was more than willing to wait my turn. I stood in the small store for over 15 minutes while she joked and laughed with the people ahead of me, she never acknowledged my presence, never said I will be with you in a minute - nothing. She has a lot of knowledge regarding light fixtures but limited customer service skills. I'm not sure why I kept going back but I thought maybe her attitude would change. I will never go back again - I'm quite sure she won't care. read more

Don't ever give this owner lady the time of day. She was extremely rude on the phone. My aunt died unexpectedly and had an order for over $800 worth of fixtures. We obsivously didn't need the order to come in seeing that she is no longer alive and this woman has the nerve to keep 30% of the what my aunt paid. She is keeping it because "the company charges me to send it back." I asked her to call the company and she said "NO!" I understand keeping 30% when you change your mind on an order you placed, but my aunt did not choose to die, and this owner has no heart or compassion as was shown with the phone call. I can't say enough about Dawn, the owner of Littman Brothers Lighting in MORTON GROVE. (I know nothing of the Schaumburg store.) She knows everything about lighting and is awesome to work with. If you just need a light bulb and/or if you want expertise in helping to choose lighting for a room, a whole house or your home's exterior, see Dawn. Since venturing in there, I've never stepped into a lighting department anywhere else - even for a light bulb. With her guidance, I converted my whole house to LED and have enjoyed the savings ever since. (LEDs vary GREATLY in the quality and beauty of their light; she's got the good stuff and knows it all.) I have also bought lighting fixtures from Dawn. Her pricing on same items is as sharp as ANY local retailer's or online vendor's. (And what is super reassuring about buying from her is that you can have total confidence that if there is any issue with a vendor's product, she will step up and resolve it fairly.) She's an experienced lighting problem-solver. I wanted LEDs in a pre-LED era glass cabinet and picture light - to reduce the damaging heat from incandescents. Dawn let me experiment with various bulb options in my home so that I got the perfect amount and quality of LED illumination that I wanted. Try that at Home Depot! read more

They have a large selection of quality products to choose from, but it's the customer service that has impressed me the most. They are not just interested in "sales" - they truly want you to be happy with your purchases, and they spend as much time as is necessary to ensure all your questions are answered. The shop is small and they have nothing in stock and cannot give you a good delivery date. The shop is dirty and cluttered. This alone should have been a warning of things to come. I bought a ceiling lamp here I thought I could have forever. But it requires 5 halogen lightbulbs, and they told me when I bought it halogen lightbulbs last a really long time. That is not true, the bulbs are burning out every couple months, and 2 months ago I had to buy 4 new ones there for $55, and I had to buy replacements already several times I told the lady that, so she finally agreed to give me a new one free if it burned out again, so I come back and shes like no this is not the one you bought 2 months ago, she would not give me one lightbulb free, even though I spent $700 there already means nothing I cant have one lightbulb. Then I told her I need to study in my room, its not bright when one light is burned out, and she actually laughed at me and was like you cant see with 3 lightbulbs? like she didn't believe me, all I can say is I'm not lying I can't see I don't want my eyesight to go bad. She wouldn't even listen to me, she just said you must be using your lamp too much. To that lady-just because I'm younger than you don't assume anything about me, very rude. Wow I got ripped off here, this lamp is more trouble than its worth. read more
