I found Chris via Yelp when I had a wall that start buzzing when I turned on a light switch, coupled with a three way switch that wasn't behaving normally anymore. No one I knew had any recommendations, so I contacted a few electricians on Yelp because I didn't know where to start. He responded quickly and was EXTREMELY helpful, talking to me on several calls to give an estimate and initial troubleshooting ideas, including suggestions for what to tell my building's engineer in case I opted to have the engineer try to fix it first. He had me send photos of my electrical panel and he mentioned the brand of breakers I had (Challenger) are known to be problematic and hazardous, so he suggested that I have them swapped out when I have the lightswitch fixed. He said my building engineer could probably do it if I preferred that, which would be less expensive. Because my building just changed maintenance/engineering companies earlier this year and I don't really know or trust the new engineer yet, I wanted to have an electrician do this to make sure it was done correctly. I was impressed by his Yelp reviews, Angie's List reviews, and BBB rating, so I hired him. Chris was super easy to work with to schedule the appointment, and he gave me a 2 hour window for when he'd arrive (and as it approached, he called/texted to update me on a more exact ETA). I ended up having him replace all my breakers, and he also replaced the three light switches that were faulty. He also swapped out my hardwired smoke detector, since my old one was past its prime. I pre-purchased the breakers and detector since I had a few days' lead time, so he only charged me for the switches and his time (which was spot-on with the estimate he gave me over the phone). He also went up on my roof when he saw the breaker for my AC unit seemed to not make sense for the size of my apartment, and sure enough it was not what the AC unit sticker said it should be. So he replaced that one with the correct amperage, which reduces the strain on the AC Unit (so it doesn't get damaged) and reduces the risk of a fire. He also found some problems with my building's roof and some building wiring that was exposed up there, which he photographed and sent to me so I could pass it along to the board and management company for them to handle. Chris is a super nice guy, and he was great at explaining what was wrong and what needed to be fixed without upselling me. I'm someone who stresses out about anything home maintenance because I'm terrified of something going tragically wrong, so I appreciated the info he shared. I've already recommended him to my neighbors in our building's facebook group, and I will definitely hire him again for any other electrical work I may need. (I may eventually get my life together and replace some ceiling light fixtures and install a fan. While in theory I could do it myself, I'd rather not accidentally electrocute myself. Plumbing and electric are the two things I don't mess around with, even for simple fixes). read more

Excellent service, same-day communications, very safety minded, and saved me a ton of money. We had flickering lights in our basement and a technician from our home warranty company had scared us into thinking we needed a lot more repairs than were actually warranted. Our home warranty denied any upgrades to our panel, and rightfully so, but our lights were still flickering, so I called Quality Residential instead. The entire issue came from our light switch which was rated for incandescent lights. It's 2025, and we're using LED bulbs, so an update to our light switch was all that was required. I really wanted to work with Chris, as he seems like a very knowledgeable and professional electrician. We had initially discussed an outdoor lighting project in the beginning of July and had good dialogue and set a date to get it done a few weeks later. A few days prior to our project date, he informed me that he couldn't find the materials for the project, so he requested I check around since he was very busy and that he wouldn't have been able to do the original set date anyway. I obliged, called around, and eventually found the material with the specs he had recommended. We discussed a plan that he would call them to coordinate pickup of the materials later that weekend and then set a new date for the project. This was the last weekend of July. I didn't hear back from him after that weekend to scheduled a new appointment, so I texted and messaged him on Yelp, which is the same way we had been corresponding previously - but no response. I figured he was probably busy, so I gave it a few days and tried calling then, but again, no response. By then I had already invested a good amount of time into finding the materials, etc, and I really wanted to believe that Chris would follow through like he said he would when we first spoke in the beginning of July, so I gave it another week before following up on Yelp and another voicemail asking for at least an update if he plans to do this project at all, but still no response. Now it's the end of August, and I am bummed that the summer is almost over, and the project is not complete. Again, I really wanted to work with Chris. I hope I can give a fantastic update to this review in the near future, but I feel a bit disrespected that there was no response/follow-up after the time spent coordinating everything. read more

I recently purchased a new house, I noticed I had four recess lighting fixtures and that one wasn't working so I contacted quality electricians for some help. When they arrived (four people) they started "trouble shooting" why my fixture wasn't working. Instead of holding up a voltage meter to check for power, they proceeded to change the light bulb (which I told them I already tried) and cutting out the other fixtures that were working to put them in the location that wasn't working. After some time they told me there was no power because the transformer wasn't good. My options were I could either contact a "lighting guy" to fix it, or they could replace all four recess light fixtures for $2000.00!! I might be a little confused, but I thought you contact a electrician for lighting issues. While all four people were at my house they would split up "to make it more cost efficient" and wonder my house like it was a museum. They were so nice to inform me that my hot water tank wasn't grounded, how my fuse panel wasn't grounded correctly, how my AC unit had the wrong fuse but, they could fix it all for a extra $1600.00. I called for a fixture that wasn't working not for a whole house exam. This experience cost me $200.00, just for them to come out and tell me what I already knew. That my fixture had no power and wasn't working. I didn't feel like arguing since some people may need it more than others. So, I paid the $200.00 they charged me and sent them on their way. This whole experience cost me $220.00. I had to buy a new fixture since they cut the wire on my fixture so short while "trouble shooting" It couldn't be reconnected. I would give zero stars if I could. Update to owners reply: obviously the public eye can see who is lying. It is really sad how you feel you have to lie. I paid the $200.00 with no argument so no need to argue with me here. This is my experience and what happened. If you only came to my house to repair my fixture how is it that you were able to exam AC unit, along with the rest of my house and determine my house was unsafe? Maybe edit your response so it's not obvious that what I said is true. I only take the time to write this review so others can proceed with caution. Reviews aren't going to affect your life, it's karma that you have to worry about. After my review I have been getting threats and harassing text messages. I blocked him and now he's messaging me on Yelp. Haha Below is a screenshot of the type of messages he's sending me. Do you really want to support a business that acts this way because they don't like your review?!? It's now been almost a week since I posted my review and obviously Chris doesn't know how to word his lies to make them believable. I have never seen anyone change their story so many times (without any reply from me) If I was so called "texting and calling him throughout the day" why doesn't he block me like I blocked him? Yelp has already issued him a warning after reviewing our messages and yet he's still here trying to make people believe his lies. This review doesn't change my life it was just to inform others of how their experience with this company might be. Again this was my experience (which was horrible.) Been wanting to write a review for QRE and the owner Chris, who came to my house in the dead of winter to troubleshoot a non working well pump, determined that the wiring was faulty, and went to work nonstop until it was fixed that same day. I'll start by saying that I highly recommend Chris and Quality Residential without hesitation. We had a random power outage in our house, and put a call into Chris around 9:30p. (We had used him once before for some simple electrical work / repairs around the house.) Despite having been working since 5a that day, Chris stayed on the phone with me, talking through my issue for at least 30 minutes. We got the power running through the night, and he gave me tips on what to do if it happened again before he could be over to fix it the next day (which it did). Long story short, Chris troubleshot the issue over the course of a few days (as we also had to engage HVAC support), and because of his knowledge was able to solve the problem for much less than it could have cost us. (The issue was likely caused by an unreported power surge from ComEd.) He is very dedicated to his work, very thorough, reliable, and will always try to keep cost in mind. We called Chris on a Sunday morning as half our power was out. He walked us through the process of diagnostics as he didn't want to charge us his hourly fee for something that we could easily do ourselves. Right then, we trusted that he had our best interest in mind. From that point he was able to help us diagnose two issues happening simultaneously. A dropped phase (which we called ComEd and they fixed it for free since it was their wires) and over use of the circuit in the master bedroom we had just started to use since our recent move into the house. We changed the incandescent bulbs to LEDs, and we're testing to see if that solves the problem enough, if not, we will gladly hire Chris without a second thought! The thing that most illustrates Chris's knowledge and customer focus was 20 minutes after our call, Chris calls us back to tell us that we can further test if it's a phase drop because the circuit breakers are set up for every other phase, so there would be a clear pattern to which rooms had power and which didn't, which was accurate. Not only was he able to confirm this, but it tells me that he had been thinking about our situation, trying to puzzle it out, and when he did he wanted to reach out and share his thoughts with us. read more
