Unfortunately, we hired Peter to do some work for us installing a mainline irrigation system around our property. His quote for the work came in significantly less than we'd been quoted by others which worried me, and I expressed this to him, saying, "I'm afraid I'm going to get what I pay for." He assured me that it was January at the time, and he was just happy to be keeping his guys busy during the slow, rainy season. I also expressed concern regarding "Steven M.'s" review from 2014 and Peter's very abrasive response to that review. Here again, he talked through it saying that "Steven M." was a very difficult customer, and that in hindsight he wished he hadn't responded as he did, but it was late one evening, and he left an emotional response. I bought it as I was anxious to get our irrigation work completed. I've been regretting it ever since. And now I'm disappointed that I didn't leave a review sooner, as I see that Mike R. and Kristine P. had similar experiences, and had I left my review sooner, I could have saved them the agony! (so to them I say . . . I'm sorry).
I don't like to speak negatively of anyone, but we had a horrible experience with Peter. At first he was very nice, super attentive . . . appeared to really be working with me to keep costs down, letting me pick out and pay for various items on my own so that he didn't have to mark things up etc. etc. I've since learned that contractors that do this often times don't have the cash flow to buy what is needed. He showed up with his crew and had them HAND TRENCH over 700 feet of irrigation trenching. My husband questioned him about this and he laughed it off saying that the boys on his crew needed the exercise . . . we've since been told that contractors that do this probably don't have the cash necessary to rent the equipment necessary to do the work . . . whether or not this is true, I don't know. But what I do know is, now that we are delving into the work that was completed, there are all sorts of problems. For one, there are areas where our mainline irrigation PVC is only 3 inches below the surface of our soil. Now I need to mark off areas, build up soil, and take extra precautions during the winter due to the shallow piping. This is something that wouldn't be an issue if the pipes were buried deeper if trenched properly.
Peter and his crew showed up for the first week or so to do the irrigation work . . . and then suddenly, they were nowhere to be found. Weeks would pass by without any sign of them. I would text him and say something nice like, "We've missed your smiling faces around here, when are you going to get things finished up?" He'd respond with any number of excuses . . . 1. dealing with an overflowing toilet; 2. customer has a broken backflow device; 3. it's too cold to work; 4. crew doesn't want to work when there's a little drizzle of rain; 5. it's too windy . . . I'm not making this up! I have text messages to prove it!
This was supposed to be a 3 week job. After 6 weeks, I started losing my patience. It was clear that he had picked up work elsewhere. Every time I sent him a somewhat forceful text or message stating that he wasn't fulfilling our contract and to please extend some courtesy to us and come finish our job, he'd show up at the end of the day, work for 20-30 minutes, and leave again. After 8 weeks, I'd had enough. We couldn't do anything until the irrigation work was finished, and I was done waiting. I finally sent him a letter and asked that he not return to our property, we were done dealing with him, we were disappointed with his workmanship, and wouldn't pay another dollar on the contract. He did nothing but make more excuses, tell us that he was almost done, and that half of what we were waiting on wasn't in the contract to begin with. I thought we were clear that he would complete my irrigation system to the point that all we had to do was install drip lines. He claims that valves weren't included in the contract . . . I guess that was conveniently left out.
Now, months later, my husband and I are left trying to finally finish what he should have completed 5 months ago, only to find out that the work he did do is only half done as it is. He was supposed to put in 6 zones for us in 6 irrigation boxes around our property. We were out installing the valves today only to find out that he combined zones, and then ran separate wire to two of the zones which don't even run back to the timer. I'm livid! And not only at Peter for such lousy workmanship, I'm mad at myself for not trusting my gut, and knowing that I was going to get what I paid for . . . but at this point, I don't even think I got that! I could go on and on. There's so much more to this . . . but I hope that's enough to help others to avoid this company and save yourself the agony of the repercussions of working with such an individual. read more
