What better way to celebrate Juneteenth and Father's Day than out on Lady Bird Lake canoeing and kayaking! I love this place. Parking was easy and accessible, the customer service from beginning to end was amazing. The staff is the BEST! We did our waivers before checking in and they provided a box to keep all our personal belongings while we went out on the lake. The lady who handled I checkin was very sweet, knowledgeable and answered all questions while explaining the process to us. The canoe and kayaks were clean. The staff provided a brief lesson to our children and were so friendly. They assisted us getting in/out and even took a group photo for us. Looking for something fun to do in Austin? What about spending time on the water? This is where Live Love Paddle comes in. You can rent paddle boards or kayaks here, paid by the hour. It's a nice idea but isn't the smoothest process. They are actively looking to hire though and that would probably go a long way. The cons: They have a QR code to scan to start the waiver process while you're in line but it's big and phones can have a hard time recognizing it. There really isn't any shade to wait in while you wait in line, and wait in line you will do. The process to check out at times is pretty arduous and took a lot.longer than a well oiled machine would. The shade that was available crossed in front of the next door store front and Live Love Paddle asked waiting customers to shift over to be courteous (fully support this!!). It would be nice if Live Love Paddle invested in some time of umbrellas or tent covering though to keep their waiting clients cool, especially if you're waiting for 25+min like we were. There was a large group in front of us and either they had no idea what they were doing or the employees didn't effectively manage their checkout process. When we finally got to the check out counter our experience went very smooth. The employee was efficient in the process, moving the order along, and getting to the next customer all while being polite, friendly, and keeping you excited for getting in the water instead of frustrated at the long check in process. So I don't know if they didn't communicate an effective way for the group to finish their checkout process or if the group didn't follow directions because that group kept having people cut the line to check out instead of handling it all at once in an organized fashion. Just an idea, the line might move faster if it had a two step process or two people at the counter, one to do check in and another to handle the paddles. Overall management could work on efficiency for the check in process and to speed up wait times. The pros: These guys are a pretty great price. $20 for a double kayak ($15 for a single, I think $20 for a paddle board). And after the first hour they charge $5 every 15min (at least for the double kayak). They don't nickel and dime you and generally are customer focused on the paying experience instead of money grubbing. You don't have to carry your boat at all. (You do carry your own paddles down to the water front and bring them back for check out.) And when you get to the water they have staff to hold the kayak while you get in so you don't have to wade into the water and push off yourself. The staff is also knowledgeable about the river and gave some good advice on what to expect depending on which direction you go. You can leave your valuables at the store in a personal box. While it's not locked up (meaning staff could access it) it is a nice option to have. You do have to leave ID. You aren't charged for your walking time! They give you a slip of paper that you bring to the boat house where they'll mark your start time and when you come back they'll mark your end time. read more

I really love renting here. The owner & staff are the best and just really nice people to work with. Pricing is great and the equipment is always in top shape. This is one of the best spots on the lake to take to the water. Green everywhere and a great view of the city up river. Explore the little lake across the way at Festival Beach. Live life. We went kayaking for the first time with the kids and had an awesome experience. The shop was friendly and walked us through everything. The kayaks are just a short walk down the path from the shop ready to go. We just carried our paddles down with us along with a ticket to keep track of time. I believe it was $20 an hour and prorated in increments of 15 mins. We had a great time cruising down the Colorado River and paddled down to Congress Ave Bridge where the infamous bats are. The weather was perfect, the water was smooth and perfect as well. Would highly recommend trying it and this place will take great care of you. read more

My group of 5 did the Urban Kayak tour, and it was a blast!! Dan was an awesome tour guide - super upbeat, funny, and knowledgeable. We learned a ton, got to see some beautiful sights, and got an arm and ab workout in. The total trip was about 3 mi round trip but not as bad as you'd think. You're also allowed to bring snacks and drinks on the kayak with you (they offer you a complimentary water bottle so no need to bring that). All in all, it was a super fun and unique way to learn more about the city of Austin, definitely recommend! Tip: DEFINITELY expect to get wet. The water drips down the paddle and onto your legs as you kayak, so by the end of the trip my legs were soaked. Still fun either way, but plan on bringing waterproof pants or a change of clothes if you can! I survived without it though read more

My friends and I took the kayak Bat tour with "Live, Love, Paddle". The first thing I want to say is Dan is the Absolute Man!! He is funny, entertaining, and knowledgeable. The kayaks are sit-on-top, but probably the most comfortable kind I've ever used. I love Kayaking, I prefer the sit-in type because the chairs are usually better, but honestly the back support on these were far superior. The water was smooth, the city looks amazing, and the bats are a cool sight to see. You'll learn a few things, be entertained, and get some exercise all at the same time. We had a great group, our energy helped feed Dan's energy....or maybe it was the reverse. When you go, be sure to participate, be loud, and enjoy yourself. The last thing I'll talk about is the Live, Love, Paddle shirts. They are made out of material softer than clouds. I bought two shirts and wore them back-to-back. Amazing tour guide!!! We went when it was a little windy but still got to see lots of bats! The trip is 3.5 miles round trip and not too intensive. Much better experience than standing up on the bridge. When you go you should go underneath and look up and you'll see a stream of bats go out from the bridge. read more

AMAZING!!!!! We did the sunset bat tour on Lady Bird Lake with our tour guide John. The whole tour from start to finish was easy. Easy FREE parking, easy check-in, no rush, friendly staff, and amazing tour. The kayaks were really nice ones, very contoured to the body. They had life jackets, well kept equipment and paddles. We got free water for the trip too. John, our guide was so knowledgeable and friendly. We learned so much and had a great time. Austin and the bats were amazing at night. It was an incredible sight and well worth it. The paddle was about 3 miles but it went fast, there and back. It was just a perfect distance for an inexperienced kayaker. I loved the freedom our guide provided vs other tours in other places I've felt like we all had to stay together so tightly. This allowed us to feel together but also to stop and rest a minute, enjoy the sights, without holding up everyone else.
