Great surf shop staffed with 1st class people who go the extra mile for their customers. While we've purchased surf gear and rented several soft tops over the years and the experience has always been first rate, my family's best experience with Live Water occurred over Father's Day weekend when we limped into town with a flat tire. Local service options are limited as Stinson Beach has no gas station, but Neil and the Live Water team jumped to our aid with a myriad of tools and helpful assistance. My family has been visiting Stinson Beach for years, and Live Water is our go-to spot for surf board rentals, beach gear, etc. The staff is knowledgeable and super-friendly, whether you have questions about a board, local surf conditions, etc. They also have occasional deals on sales of used gear (I got a used wetsuit there which is great). I take groups of youth surfing several times a year at Stinson Beach and I always rent gear from Live Water Surf Shop. The staff is amazing and always works hard to get us set up when we arrive. Amazing service. We live in So Cal and surfed there in Stinson on vacation, we bought our son one of their legendary live water hats with shark logo. This hat was my son's favorite when it was taken he was very disappointed & I hoped I could surprise him for his birthday with a new hat. I called & spoke to Neal and they didn't have any of the hats in the store at the time. He took my info and said when they get them in stock he would call me, lost hope I could get it for my son's birthday. That afternoon Neal called he got the hat and mailed it to me the same day. Made my son's birthday. Thank you Neal!! We will always stop by whenever we are in Nor Cal. read more

Popped in with two adults and six kids to rent wet suits for the day, Saturday. Staff on hand were great and very friendly. Gear was in excellent condition, sizing was perfect, staff very helpful. We will be back on our next trip up here. Highly recommend! read more

Rented three boogie boards for the day. One leash broke as soon as we got to the beach. A metal piece (yes, metal on a toy that goes in the water regularly) that attaches the leash to the board was rusted and therefore broke apart. When I returned the boards and notified the clerk, she had to get the manager, who was a 19 year old. I was charged $30 for the leash! The staff was polite but the policies are outrageous! I ended up paying $43 to rent a $52 boogie board....guess they gotta make money somewhere. I won't be renting again...will definitely buy my own. And probably won't go back to that store. read more

Rented a wetsuit for the day $15 on a Sunday. Tried to arrive early because of past experience of running out of gear rental at other surf shops but it wasn't a problem. Great location, just a walk to the beach. Brought back the wetsuit a tad late because we lost track of time as there were also some bouldering to be had at the beach, but it was no problem. read more

Staff here was really friendly, when I was visiting the area on a surf trek. I had forgotten to bring a fresh bar of wax and needed to pick one up. I walked in and one of the employees was standing on one of those indo balance boards and gave me a friendly wave and hello without losing his balance. I was pretty impressed, I have to focus really hard when I'm on those things and was no where near as relaxed as he was. My poor balance aside, I noticed they do rent wetsuits and soft top boards, which I think are a step up from those foamy boards that get very water logged and heavy as it absorbs water. They do sell some surf brand clothes for men, women and the lil ones. Up the set of stairs they do have a selection of surfboards, at least half of the boards in stock were long boards. We ended up coming back, the waves on one of the days was really small, so we ended up coming back and got one of their reasonable priced skim boards to pass time on the beach while we waited for things to pick up. read more
