I rented the single kayak and it includes a life jacket, and the use of a dry bag. The kayak and gear were all in good condition. All the employees were friendly, knowledgeable, and efficient. This review is for the camps that they run in the summer. My kids have down the week long camps…read moreboth in 2021 and this year and absolutely love the time they have spent with PCSL. The camp is from Monday to Thursday and is held in Bolinas. Kids are grouped based on age and have different color rash guards and hats to keep them together. Full wetsuits and boards are provided but if you have them you can bring your own. The kids get to not only learn about surfing, how to read the waves and the tide charts but to experience the joys of surfing. The groups are small, 4-5 kids per surfer and another CIT. I feel like they are totally safe in and out of the water. They break for snack and lunch and games to break up the day. It's a great way for kids to be introduced to surfing and have a blast in and out of the water. What a great thing this is to have in our area. Last week when the kids were there we had schools of Sardines that came and surfed with them. My son said he was surfing and looked down and all he could see were fish swimming along with him, that's an incredible ride and the connection he felt with the ocean was like nothing he had experienced before. Alamere Falls - Point Reyes National Seashore

People who have never been to Oregon will tell you that this is one of only two tidefalls (a…read morewaterfall that flows into the ocean) on the entire West Coast. People who believe AllTrails will tell you that this is one of only two tidefalls in California. (If you use Alltrails, you aren't allowed to hike with me, by the way.) Neither of these statements are anywhere close to true. As a matter of fact, there are at least two tidefalls on this one beach, and there are many more in areas that are not easily accessible to the public. Tidefalls are common along the coasts of Oregon, Washington, and Canada. There are several tall tidefalls in Cape Perpetua alone. That being said, Alamere Falls might be the biggest, prettiest publicly accessible tidefall in Northern California. I recently hiked Alamere Falls for the first time in nearly ten years, and I couldn't believe how much had seemed to change. First of all, the road to the Palomarin trail was hell in a compact vehicle. Even going like two miles per hour, I got a little motion sickness from the thousands of deep potholes. The road is so bad that it almost seems beyond repair. At this point, it's probably only suitable for high clearance vehicles, although I did not notice any signs warning of such. Secondly, I'm pretty sure I was the only sober person on the trail. The vibes were so, so weird. Consider packing your (legal) weapon of choice. Thirdly, I was certainly the only person to take the 'legal' trail down, although I gained some new perspective on this. While the trail that I took is ostensibly the trail recommended by NPS, one does have to wonder why it is so overgrown. It feels like, "Obviously, no one ever really hikes this trail," because it's nowhere near clear or well-trodden. Certain areas of the trail were so overgrown that it was impossible to see my feet, and difficult to find my footing. These areas were chalk full of poison oak, stinging nettle, poison hemlock, and a wide variety of (harmless) snakes. By contrast, much of the "social" trail was four feet wide, flat, and clear. Which made me wonder-- which trail is really safer? The cliffs at the end of the social trail are constantly crumbling. The risk of falling, breaking a leg, or at least spraining an ankle, seems high. But by contrast, the risk of spraining an ankle on the recommended trail seems high, too. And the stinging nettle hurt a lot, but only for a few hours. My personal recommendation is to take the recommended trail, but wear solid boots, long pants, and tall, colorful socks. Tuck your pants into your socks, or wear gaiters. Use permethrin or your tick repellant of choice. While the official Palomarin Trail may be very long and difficult, it's also worth the trouble. The ocean views and wildlife were unbelievable. I actually saw a mother deer nursing two spotted fawns in the middle of the trail. On the beach, I found agates, fossils, shells, giant bull kelp, snowy plovers, and lots of by-the-wind-sailors jellyfish in multiple stages of life and decomposition. The waterfall itself is pretty-- but make sure to check the tide!! I never do, and I almost always get stranded. The first time I ever hiked this trail, I actually had to climb up a cliff in terror and wait 3 hours for the tide to recede. But that doesn't need to happen to you if you remember to check the tide before you come out, while you still have service.

What makes it so special is that it's a rare "tidefall," where the waterfall flows directly into the ocean--something you can only see in a couple of places in California, including McWay Falls. Watching the water cascade over the rugged shale cliffs onto the beach below is simply unforgettable. The surrounding landscape feels wild and untouched, adding to the sense of adventure. Upstream, the smaller cascades create a beautiful lead-up to the main falls, making the entire hike feel like a journey through nature's artwork. There are lots of parking at this trail but by afternoon, good luck!! I would definitely come here super early to beat the crowd like we did! The road going here is very zigzag roads and some may get sick. Also, the road is very narrow and lots of loose gravel and lots of potholes so drive with caution. The trails are very well maintained. Lots of people traffic though. We got there early so there was barely anyone there but by the time we started going back, I stopped counting after a hundred people! Very popular trail as everyone wanted to go to Alamere Beach Waterfalls! We didn't go to the campgrounds as it was too far. Just going to Alamere Falls and back was already over eight miles! Alamere trails is another different review! I really enjoyed this trail as it goes along the coast and see the ocean views! Just beware there is a lot of poison oak! I saw a lot along the trail! It's part shade so wear a hat. Some parts of the trails goes up and down and lots of loose rocks so you can sleep. I would rate this trail moderate to hard as it's a long trail! Good workout!! I'm not sure how anyone can find this place because there are no marked signs or paved roads to get to the parking lot or base of the trail. As a passenger, I was oblivious to driving directions. I must say that all the twists and turns left me a bit car-sick and thankfully that quickly passed. There are about 4 restroom stalls in the parking lot that stunk badly. Now onto the positive aspects of Palomarin. Many reviewers have mentioned that this trail to the falls is about 8 miles round-trip. I think I finished in about 4.5 hours with stops here and there at a leisurely pace. I bet the sunset would have been beautiful, but I left around 6:30pm. What I love about this hike is that there's a little of everything in terms of views and things to see. I saw the ocean, a lake, a fox, waterfalls, nature, and fresh air. I wonder if the waterfalls are always flowing, even a few years ago during the drought... A great pit-stop before coming to Palomarin is to stop in Stinson Beach for lunch or dinner. I'm glad lunch was eaten before the hike. Next time I'll bring snacks. Luckily I had brought lots of water. Still having Palomarin withdraws... #53/2018

The street signs aren't your traditional signs. It is small and creatively marked with colorful paint. It's not a paved road to get to the reef. There were ample parking at the lot. There are porta potties. Easy access to the reef for a 2 year old. There are some steps and then you are there. I personally think the wildlife is more interesting at Bean Hollow in Pescadero.

Sadly, we missed the minus tide which is necessary for any tide pool adventures. Still, it's a lovely spot and on a clear day, had some wonderful views. I could tell from the rocks that this would be a marvelous spot for spending more time, when the tide is right. Dramatic cliffs, unique rocks along the beach and just all around lovely. Now that I've scouted it out, I'll plan accordingly for my next visit.

I've called the shop and the guy that answers the phone was a prick. I popped into the shop and the guy that didn't greet me was a prick. The phone rang while I was in there and sure enough the guy was a prick again. The waves in this little town mostly suck and I think this guy is bent because of that. Look to that spot when ocean beach is triple overhead+ and pop in that store only when in dire need of a stick of wax. Lots of great surf shops that are straight up with their customers and about this sport. I first encountered this spot while on top of fair fax blvd. While looking down from way up on the hill I saw peaky barrels from a small south in that two to three foot range breaking outside of the lagoon entrance. Looked fun. I think it's real dependent on the bars. I've stopped by many times on many swells and the place is unpredictable. I think its best on big wnw. I wouldn't even consider the patch as a break and I've seen it head high+ on a good south. But people were excited and having fun. So don't listen to everything I say accept for the dark haired dude in the shop is a prick and he just can't help it. Don't ask him a question about something your looking to find out about. Chances are he'll be a prick. Hopefully this message will be read by this dude, hey dude if your reading this. Surfing is about having fun and at some point we all begin. Be cool and friendly, your Customers are people trying to enjoy them selves. It's mostly a beginner logging spot so even less a reason to be a prick. I had a great experience at 2 Mile Surf Shop. My rental equipment was very good. My wet suit fit well and kept me comfortable in the water, and my long board was nice and new. I took 3 consecutive days of lessons and this was just perfect for a middle-aged guy like myself who was a beginner with a desire to learn to surf. I first took a group lesson and had a great introduction on day 1 from Ian who gave me a lot of support, useful information, and tips that became more useful as I got more experience. On days 2 and 3 I was fortunate to learn in private lessons from Mike. Mike has a keen eye for watching waves and his student's movements on the board. He is also a good communicator of the small incremental steps a surfer does toward progressing and riding waves. He assessed my rides and gave very constructive criticism to help me improve. He encouraged independence and, as was Ian, is an all-round great person to work with and learn from. I made constant progress over the course of the three days and by the middle of my final day, I am delighted and thrilled to say I gained confidence, skill, and began riding the waves. I thank Nick for scheduling me good times to surf and to Ian and Mike for making my dream of surfing come true. I'm motivated and encouraged to keep working at. read more

2 Mile Surf Shop is my go-to place for all surfing needs when you're in Southern Marin. Honestly skip Proof Lab in Mill Valley and road trip it down to the lively and bucolic town of Bolinas... You won't be sorry! At 2 Mile you'll get individualized attention, you'll be able to get a surf lesson, if desired, that is tailored to your skill level and ability, and in general the staff of 2 Mile will make you feel very comfortable. They also sell boards, apparel, flip flops etc. all at fair and economical prices. I love 2 Mile and will go there for all my surfing needs. In fact, when in Bolinas, I'll stop in even on a non-surfing day just to chat with the friendly people that inhabit this den of civility. And after surfing, I recommend you get yourself and your friends a great meal at Coast Cafe, and after that, play a game of pool and enjoy a few chill beers at Smiley's Saloon, the best bar in the west with the nicest people you'll ever meet. I am a lifelong customer of 2 Mile. When my roommate invited me to go surfing with him in Bolinas for the first time, and I didn't have a wetsuit or a board, he said, "Oh, you can rent one at the surf shop there." The staff of the shop, led by Nick (tall guy with curly red hair) is super-nice and incredibly helpful. Even though I was a neophyte who couldn't tell his ass from his elbow (in the suit), they helped me out. The rentals are reasonably priced and always in good condition. I've rented from other shops where you end up with a thin, holey wetsuit. Not so here. And when it came time to buy my own suit (you can only rent so many times before it stops making sense), they helped me figure out what I needed, what size, and gave me a little discount to boot. My husband, 10 year old son and I took our first ever surf lesson here. The team at the surf shop had us geared up and out the door in a professional and kind manner, the walk to the beach with our instructor was easy and once in the water we had the time of our lives thanks to the awesome equipment we rented and to the amazing teachings of our instructor. Sophia has done the Bolinas surf camp twice now and absolutely loves it. She especially LOVES the instructors who made her feel so special (she already really misses her "buddies" Travis and Sam). I want to thank the instructors for keeping it so fun for her and helping her gain even more confidence in the ocean! I also have to mention that as a dad it was very important to me to know that she would be kept safe. We had a great experience surfing with 2 mile surf! The staff was very professional and had everything prepared for our lesson with wet suits (brand new) and boards. Also, the instructors were very good at keeping our group of 15 people together as well as paying individual attention to everyone based on their surf skill level. It was go time and the two hours in water was magical!! Even my cheeks hurt from laughing at how hilarious these guys are. Cooper initially said the rentals were closed, but opened it up for us so we could explore the bay. He gave us some tips about where to see the best wildlife and told us to keep an eye out for rays since it's there breeding season. We ended up seeing SO MANY rays, they were even swimming under the boat. We sat and enjoyed the sound of waves lapping against the shore, the wind ruffling through the trees and rays splashing all around us. Our guide, Richard, was excellent--not only in leading us through the backcountry terrain but also in smoothly handling any logistical issues that came up.
