Quite possibly one of the best restaurants I've eaten at in this town. We stopped by for brunch and while the reviews gave us a lukewarm feeling, they do not do this place justice. The service was friendly and fast, the drinks were spot on, and the food was absolutely delicious! I had the Breakfast Scrambler while my family had the Black and Bleu salad and some eggs and bacon a la carte. The bartender even had my son giggling by playing hide and seek. I've been to Live Oaks a total of 3 times now. The last time was a few years ago before we moved to Huntsville. Well, when we decided to come back to Auburn this weekend, we thought "no better way than to celebrate v-day than a great meal at a nice restaurant". WRONG! This place used to be NICE! Like Sunday morning/church wardrobe nice. I'd now say I feel comfortable wearing workout leggings and a T there now. I'd rather have Longhorn. Issue 1:: Tonight we had reservations for 4. Had a confirmation text and everything. We arrive a few mins early and they seat us, no problem. They didn't realize it was a table for 4 and sat us at a table for 2. We were escorted back to the front (no standing room between the entry door, hostess desk, and tables for people eating). Then asked us if we wanted to sit on the patio. I appreciate the offer, but no. I declined politely saying that it's too cold for my liking to be outside (low 40s) and I didn't have a jacket. The hostess kept pushing it and we continuously declined. Finally a waitress was able to accommodate us as a party of 4. Issue 2:: they were out of OJ for the drink I wanted. Ok, I get it-- not a huge deal. I ordered a different one that was pretty good. Issue 3:: I asked what was in the chef's risotto - spinach, garlic, Parmesan, and scallions, and cherry tomatoes. Sounds delicious! I order that with my steak along with a side salad. Meal comes out -- salad is a mediocre typical salad (used to be something like spinach, apples, feta, and strawberries with a vinaigrette dressing). Risotto is FULL of chunks of onions. I know scallions are like onions, but the chunks were huge and took up 40% of the risotto and there was no spinach in it. It tasted like overcooked Uncle Ben's garlic flavored rice from the microwave bags. Plus it was cold! Steak - ordered well done. It comes out and is well done, but is literally the thinnest "ribeye" I've ever seen. It looked like they ran out of steaks and went over to the Waffle House and got some from them. Also, not hot. Issue 4:: hubs ordered a beer and waitress forgot to bring it -- got it 20 mins later. Issue 5:: sis in law and bro in law ordered seafood pasta. SIL pasta was dry - asked for more sauce -- waited 15 mins oh it. BIL had mussels not cooked all the way (never opened) in his pasta) Issue 6:: hubs ordered tuna - mediocre. Great outdoor option! The staff was all wearing masks, which made me feel comfortable about their COVID safety precautions. I ordered the seafood pasta and it was great, highly recommend! My cocktail was also really good! I look forward to returning. read more

We did get seated right away when there was a 2 hour wait everywhere else. I guess that should have tipped us off. Service started out good with waters and menus. Came back and got our food order quickly then went downhill from there. She brought our appetizer and didn't notice the dipping sauces weren't in the basket so we sat there eating horribly dry fried Mac and cheese. She walked in and out about 5 times and although we were the only table inside, she never looked over at us or asked if we needed anything. Had to track someone else down and ask about the sauce which she immediately brought. Our food comes out (brought by someone else) and the waitress starts to head our way then turns around and walks around the restaurant then out the door. Both mine and my daughters drinks were empty. I ordered the chicken Florentine. It was runny Alfredo sauce and noodles with chucks of chicken on top. Nothing else. No spice, no spinach, no cheese, no flavor. My daughter had the shrimp and grits. The grits were so tough and dry, it was like eating oatmeal made with about half the water it needed. When I finally track the waitress down I ask her if mine is supposed to have spinach and she said "I'll go get you some." Not sure if she planned to just throw some raw spinach in my plate or what. She came back and said they were out of spinach. Okay no problem. She offered another side vegetable. I opted for the broccoli thinking I would toss it in the horrible pasta and maybe it would help. I waited and waited then decided to eat a little more. No follow up with the waitress after that convo. About 30 minutes or more later I finally got my credit card out and was holding it hoping someone would notice I was ready to pay. I felt bad about asking another waiter to help us. The girl who got our sauce noticed I was ready and told our waitress. I see her go to the POS yet comes to the table with no bill. I just handed her my credit card bc I was ready to go at that point. The guy comes over w the broccoli finally and I said not to worry about it, we were done. Waitress comes back with my card and bill and says "I took the broccoli off." I was dumbfounded. You offered it to me since you didn't have the main ingredient in my meal and it took you 30 minutes to bring it to me yet you were going to charge me for it?!? Needless to say, they really need to work on a few things. Busy night, but I could hardly get the bartender to acknowledge me. Took nearly 15 minutes to get a beer. Once seated, spinach dip appetizer came out quickly. We were hopeful. Then came the entree, which took over an hour to show up at our table. My entree was Luke warm at best. Doubt I'll go back. Waitress was great and comped us the appetizer. My friend and I popped over for an app and drinks after shopping in downtown Auburn. It was a super-sunny, warm day. Perfect for a patio. We were greeted by an enthusiastic bar staff. We ordered a bottle of Rose and the chicken & sausage skewers (most random order, ever, I know). The place is casual, so if your'e sitting outside, don't expect to get your Rose in a champagne flute. We were drinking it out of Solo cups like total ballers. The bar is nice. The only complaint I have is that the bar stools are awkwardly high for a short girl in a dress. Not technically a complaint because there are several seating options around (tables with umbrellas); they were just full when we arrived. The menu looked tasty. As a bar, Live Oaks is great. It is well situated and has a nice scene. I've dined there twice. The first time, not long after they opened, it was very good. The second time, it was good, but nothing special. The service was fine, but I think they need to put more effort into their food to compete with a much improved Auburn restaurant scene at that price point. The shrimp and grits had a nice flavor thanks to the sauce, but the grits were lumpy and instant grit-like. The salmon was also good, but not really memorable. The bread pudding desert didn't really have any Jack Daniels taste, but was worth getting again. It was the best part of the meal. read more

We enjoyed the environment most at this outdoor bar. Lots of drink choices and right downtown.

The space is pretty amazing. The outside bar area screams fun - almost like a beach bar with a mixture of covered and open areas for drinks and dining. The inside dining area was charming and really comfortable. Despite the heavy crowd, the service was good. I went with a chicken pasta dish that mentioned truffles in the name. Honestly, I never had even the remotest hint of truffles or truffle oil. Still, it was good. Oh, get the fried mac and cheese appetizer. You'll thank me later. ;) read more

Cool outdoor seating area/ patio. Great outdoor bar. The food was ok at best. We tried the fried cauliflower for an app, it was very bland. I had the southern Chicken Cordon (sp) blue. It was pretty good, but nothing to rave about. My wife had the black and blue salad. It was ok, but needed something more (tomato, etc) It was just a bed of greens with steak and blue cheese crumble... again, not bad, just needed something more. Worst dining experience of our lives! We arrived at Live Oaks last night at 6:20 and were told one hour to 1.5 hour wait. Not surprising, considering it was a Saturday night, Valentine's weekend, and the Tigers won big against A&M! However, upon looking around, there were tons of empty tables and not many people eating, just drinking. We figured staff shortages, and ordered some drinks while we waited. TWO hours later, we finally got a table. Upon approaching the hostess stand, she informed us that there were only 3 things available on the menu left to order. Knowing it wasn't her fault (she was super sweet), we asked to speak to the manager. Waiting two hours for food only to be told that there's hardly any left, was frustrating to say the least. The manager promptly came over and he was genuinely nice and explained that they don't freeze their food and they were slammed all day and they ran out of food. Okay. Stuff happens. But we wondered why they were allowing people to wait, knowing the food supply was dwindling. As we were seated, a group of women left and as they walked past us said "it's not worth it to stay - there's no food!" Our server was fantastic and apologetic, and we ended up kind of making a joke out of it with her. The food was just very lackluster, unfortunately. So much so, that when we left, we walked around the corner and got a burger from Whataburger! LiveOaks has such a cool patio and location, so we would definitely go back for drinks. I went with a group of 10+ for a friend's birthday. The menu was too expensive for me, but I ordered a sweet tea anyways, so I could tip the waitress. Everyone else had food and alcoholic drinks. The service was extremely slow and our waitress would disappear for long periods of time. Everyone seemed to enjoy their food. When our waitress finally brought our checks, she made a comment about mine, sounding like she was making fun of me for not drinking alcohol. She may have just been joking, but it came across as very rude. The decor was nice; I liked the atmosphere of LiveOaks. It was rustic. We read reviews on here prior to dining here and knew that most of the complaints were about either the wait or the lack of draft beer inside. To remedy the wait time we arrived right at five ten and were the first people seated which was a good choice because by five forty five when three of our party members finally arrived (my roommate's out of town parents were stuck I'm 280 traffic) it was packed. And with good reason! We ordered Mac & cheese bites for the table which were absolutely delicious and not spicy as the jalapeños in description suggested. One of our party members even kept the red pepper aoli, which came with the mac & cheese bites, to put on his burger later. Most of our table ordered something different and everybody said it was absolutely delicious. As for the drinks, at first my boyfrind was told that he had order draft beer outside. He did it was a little expensive at $6.50 for a small plastic cup. But later our waitress came by and said that management had fixed the issue and they would now be able to serve draft beer inside! I am a student in Auburn's Hotel and Restaurant Management program and I was impressed with the service that shortly after opening. They were very nice to let us go ahead and get seated without a full party (a rarity in Auburn) and even with some complicated orders, and some complicated guests quite honestly, we still received superior service (big thank you to our waitress, Erica, for bearing with us. Overall I would definitely return, although maybe only after payday since the prices are a little steep for a college kid, but they are not unreasonable for the quality of food and service received. (Our check for two with desert and without alcohol was just under $40) And I would suggest what I ordered (shrimp and grits and Oreo cheesecake for dessert) to anyone without hesitation. I am very excited to see how their business evolves as the weather warms up and the patio becomes a more feasible hang out spot! read more

The guy asked us to "wrap it up" so they could have the table. He said they have a 2 hour limit on tables...what restaurant does that?? Also said there was a sign out front that stated it. Really disappointing experience. Patio was closed (?) which meant getting a draft beer was not an option apparently. The bartender seemed uninterested in serving our party and when asked about the about the draft situation deferred to the bar manager. She was quite rude, and rather than being apologetic about the crumby set up of the inside/outside bar situation, was condescending and bitchy. Great patio but everything else is terrible. Went for brunch. First thing my wife ordered they were "out of". My wife then ordered the grilled chicken panini without hot sauce. The waitress said it was "pre packaged" and they couldn't remove the hot sauce. Why are you charging $13 for it if it's pre packaged? I ordered steak and eggs with fruit instead of fries. Comes out with fries and no fruit. The steak was chewy. I ordered my eggs over easy and they were solid in the middle. When I pay $17 for something I expect better quality than that. It also took about an hour and a half from the time we sat down until we got our food. Overall it's overpriced, service is slow, and the food is neither fresh nor well cooked. read more

My wife and I tried to dine here on Valentine's Day. I knew everywhere is booked solid with reservations so I planned that we would stop at some of the good restaurants downtown and sit at the bar get some cocktails and appetizers then head to the next stop. When we arrived at Live Oaks we observed the large patio and bar area outside, but since it was a cooler night, we decided to try our luck inside. The bar on the inside seemed very small(8-10 seats max) for that area but I spot 2 free seats and another couple getting up to leave, so I thought I was living right after having to wait over 30 minutes at the last place. My wife and I walk inside and tell the hostess we can just sit at the bar. She then informs me that the whole restraunt inside is reservation only, including the bar and told me that I could sit at the outside bar but they don't serve food out there. Well needless to say I was a little disappointed because out of all our stops, I was most excited about checking out the new restaurant and bar. I will get some feedback from some of my friends before I head back to try them again. I like to give restaurant the benefit of the doubt because it was there first few weeks open and it was Valentine's Day. read more

New to town and this was my first dining out experience. Left much to be desired. The food was decent, but not for the price. Even that would be forgivable. But the service was slow. Five of us at the table, 1 of us got the whole meal first, one of us got half the meal and the other half (salad) 40 min later. And three of us got our whole meal 40 min after the 1st guy! Being polite, I let my food sit for 40 min so we could eat together. Needless to say, it was cold. Then again, I tested temperature after it first came out and it was already cold.
