Found this spot on Yelp to do some work on my truck. The manager Sergio knew what he was doing and was really friendly and informative. He gave me an estimate the same day I dropped it off and told me my truck would be ready to go the next day, AND IT WAS!They'red hassle free and reasonably priced. I have an old car that needed some mechanical things taken care of. I bought my own parts, and took them to Lizarde. He took the time to make me an appointment, and kept it. I've been taking my car to Gus since 2008. He fixed a mysterious overheating problem with my car that no-one was able to fix, so I'm eternally grateful for that. I have an old car, I don't have a ton of money. He often throws freebees in for me. He's a good guy. The biggest con is that he can be really slow - but I guess that's because he has a lot of work. I dropped my truck off to get an oil change. I was told it would be about an hour to an hour and a half. I live nearby so I went home and Gus said he'd call me when it was ready. About 2 hours later I call to check the status of my truck and I was told it was almost ready and I'd get a call when it was ready to pick up. About an hour and a half later I got the call that my truck was ready to be picked up. Not sure why it took so long but it did. Gus did check my other fluids and did fill up my coolant because it was low and advised me to keep an eye on my fluid levels because the truck is old and has a lot of miles on it. Overall, my experience was okay. I did have to wait a long time but I have another vehicle to get to my appointments. If I had no other means of transportation I probably would have been upset. I want to leave a 3.5 star rating but can't. read more

So back in the mid-90s, my husband and I tooled around in this cute little red Alfa (please, no laughing or groaning). Cute as can be and so much fun to drive, BUT the repairs with a foreign car specialist were draining us financially. And really, just why did we have to keep coming back all the time ... hmmm? Anyhoo, a friend who owned a Corvette recommended Lizarde Auto. I am delighted to report that we're fast approaching two decades with Gustavo. Best decision ever! Honest and reasonably priced, we sing his praises all the time. And as mentioned elsewhere, Gustavo stands behind his work! He takes his time and that's reassuring in this oh-so-fast-paced world. Please, I want my mechanic to take his time when servicing my car. Gustavo and his trusty team of mechanics have serviced the following for us: the Alfa, Ford Taurus SHO, Suburban, Nissan Maxima and my trusty Acura TL. A couple of cars were in accidents and are no longer with us. Others, we sold / donated. We still have the 2001 Suburban and 2006 Acura, both with over 100K miles, and Gus keeps them running just fine. We've travelled to Lake Tahoe, the Sierras of Chihuahua and up and down the California coast. The shop is female-friendly: I am always listened to in a thoughtful manner and problems are explained to me patiently and thoroughly. And by the way, I know NOTHING about cars. But after hanging out with Gustavo, man, I can shoot the breeze a bit. Not really, but I do appreciate the time he spends in making sure that we walk away satisfied. Always. Thanks Gustavo! This is the first yelp review I've ever written. I figured Gus at Lizarde definitely deserves a great review. He's really honest and he's been working on cars since he was a young guy. I took my Acura in for an oil change to test the waters. There are three reasons why I knew this place was legitimate : 1) I pulled up and saw all of his classic restoration projects 2)There was a new Hot Rod magazine on the front counter 3) I spoke to another customer who's been taking his car there for years. I took my car here last year and I had parts stolen by somebody there. They even swapped out a brand new motor I had and put in some old junk motor in. They left all the parts on top (the heads, intake manifold, carburetor, etc.) and cleaned the old motor so I wouldn't notice it had been swapped. My car ran horribly and I couldn't figure out why. As I kept trying to figure out what the problem was, I started finding all kinds of things they screwed up on my car and then I started finding parts that where swapped out for lower quality parts. When I confronted them about this, they tried to say that that's how the car arrived at their shop (I know a lot about cars and I know what I have in my car). The mechanic who worked on my car, Beto, denied everything of course. I knew he was lying when he would say one thing and then contradict himself by changing his story. It wasn't until later on that I found that they had swapped my new motor for an old motor. Then it all made sense why car ran so poorly and why I had oil leaks on my motor. A couple years ago I had taken my truck here so get some electrical/ignition issues fixed. When I picked up the truck, I drove it a few miles and a fire started under the hood. The guy who did the wiring on my truck screwed up some of the wiring. Luckily I was able to put the fire out because I pulled over immediately and was able to use a rag to put out the fire before it got too big. This place is overpriced. They charge you for every single nut and bolt and they're charging you for the time the mechanics work on a your car when in reality, they're working on two or more cars at once. And they don't even do a good job. There's other places in the area that do better jobs than these guys. read more

I have never written a Yelp review before but feel the need to let people know how great and honest Gus and his mechanics are. After going to a series of crook mechanics in LA, I was referred to Gus by a neighbor, and he has taken amazing care of my Volvo in the three years I have been going to him. With past mechanics, my head would always spin after hearing the estimate, but Gus's prices have always been extremely fair and when he repairs something, it is really fixed -- you don't have to come back to fix it again three months later like you do with some mechanics. When my Volvo was recently rear-ended and totaled, I had the car towed to Gus's shop and he fought for me to get as much money as possible from the insurance company. He also gave me great advice on other used cars to look for. My boyfriend and many of my friends now go to Gus at my recommendation and all have been very happy with him and his staff.
