Trying a new mechanic is a big big decision, nothing wrong with my previous mechanic, just too busy, I'd take my car in and maybe they'd get the part or maybe it would sit for a week... Researched a local mechanic shop specializing in BMWs and Meccanica has great Yelps! So I had my car towed here! They are so knowledgeable and fast and reasonable (compared to calling to see what other shops charge for the same service). They replaced my fuel pump and relay switch. Came back a second time to replace the weatherstripping around my front windshield and there's another part that goes under hood to protect the engine... forgot what it's called. Communication was top notch. I got a detailed email with a breakdown of the costs, including recommendations of additional repairs needed, for example the oil leak. That will be next. I love the way my car drives and happy to find a place that knows how to take care of it. read more

I've taken my 2009 Mini Cooper S here multiple times and they always do great work! I never have the same issues again afterwards. But...with an old Mini...a lot of things start deteriorating hence the semi frequent visits. Today was another one of those visits, but here's where they went above and beyond. My car had died in my friends neighborhood about 10 miles from the shop...I had AAA come to tow my car, but they couldn't move it because I couldn't get it into neutral (yes it's an automatic (semi) - LA is not conducive to full manual) I called the shop and explained the situation and they were telling me what I had to do, but I didn't want to do something wrong, and the AAA guy had no idea what to do either! So they told me they would send someone out to me to help me-they were with a client so it might take an hour. Sure enough, after an hour, they had 2 guys come, force my car into neutral and I called AAA again. Dropped it off and figured out the problem in a few hours. What shop does that???? None that I know of...besides Meccanica. The best in the business. Every single guy at the shop is respectful and clearly knows what they are doing. I won't be going anywhere else! I'm a new owner of a 1975 BMW 2002, I previously owned an 2006 BMW 330i and knew how hard it was going to be to find someone that KNEW how to work on my new project. First time customer - took my 2003 E46 M3 (non-SMG) in for routine oil service and also requested inspection given car is 19 years old and has 137,000 miles. I typically drive less than 2,000 miles per year so car was in satisfactory running shape; alas, Meccanica found numerous major issues that needed addressing... 1. Suspension system was all-original; given the age of car, it needed replacement; previous shop did not mention this. 2. Subframe reinforcement - E46 bodies are notorious for subframe cracking; therefore, I am glad Meccanica took the time to inspect and advise me upfront. It reinforced the subframe at a very fair price. 3. Brake lines were serviced improperly by a previous shop and were rubbing against axle. Had this not been identified, my brakes would've failed catastrophically. 4. VANOS pressure-accumulator replacement 5. Clutch work 6. Replacement of controller for locking system and convertible top. 7. Flex disc ("guibo") replacement. After all the work that Meccanica performed, my car feels (and looks - thanks for washing the car!!) new. It performs perceptibly better compared to when it had 80,000 miles on it. My wife noticed a difference in the engine sound and performance after 5 minutes. Meccanica is now the exclusive go-to for my beloved M3. I trust Antonio, Moises, and the rest of the Meccanica team more than any dealership. read more

2015 328i xdrive. I'm going on a long road trip next month and I wanted to make sure my car was in shape before heading out. There is no crew I trust more than the guys at Meccanica. I can't rate Meccanica 10 Stars!?!?! I WOULD IN A HEART BEAT! This review will be a little long but I think it's a good story. First of all, I'm not a car guy and don't have much knowledge about e30s- other than the fact that I LOVE the look and always wanted one with a swapped s52 engine. I found a beautiful red convertible in CT with the s52 a few months ago and went for it. I didn't realize at the time that I was opening a tiny can of worms... but with any purchase of an older, unknown vehicle, there are bugs to be sorted and this purchase was no different. I drove it cross country and knew I had to find a shop that specialized in bimmers - especially older ones. THANK GOD I chose Moises and his dedicated crew at Meccanica. There are a few very reputable shops around town but Moises was able to provide immediate help, work quickly and honestly without cutting corners and keeping me informed as he went along. HONEST & THOROUGH & ATTENTION TO DETAIL (And pride/love for his work) is what makes Moises tick. The former owner had removed power steering and thus I managed to break the steering wheel the night I pulled into my garage. We had some big ticket items: New suspension / fix brakes / install power steering / new steering wheel / sort out electronics / sort the lights (blinkers/high beams out) etc etc etc. The list grew as Moises went through all the finer points- the guy who owned this car before me was tracking it and modified everything by himself (a self-proclaimed "self taught" mechanic). I give him credit for installing the s52 engine and transmission himself but I'm reticent to congratulate him on anything further than that. The suspension was joke- sway bars cut away, pipes welded into other plates that were misaligned and f'd up, detached shocks.. not to mention damaged and tangled brake lines- I'm telling you.. the list goes on and on and it wasn't pretty. Moises and I decided to order BC Racing coil-overs (WHICH I LOVE) and he set out repairing and fabricating a way to install them - it was painstaking working after the previous botch-job from the former owner. Never discouraged, Moises worked diligently and kept me informed of his progress. I need to shout out Antonio- a fellow member of the Meccanica family (and front office man)- he was so helpful in walking me through additional purchases for the car and explaining my options when it comes to pricing, etc. He kept me up-to-date on the progress of the car and no matter how busy they were, he always made time to call. There is serious passion at this shop. The project took longer than we all expected due to the serious nature of the unexpected damage/hidden issues but Moises was always very upfront with me and took the time to physically show me the issues and explain my options. There was never an up-sell or pressure to fix anything unless it was a serious matter (The messed up brake lines were scary to look at.. thank god he caught that). The charge for all the labor and equipment was VERY FAIR. I am forever a dedicated Meccanica customer. This whole experience has left me feeling great about owning this car and feeling so comfortable knowing I have a knowledgable team I work with in the future. They almost didn't see me this week, but I mentioned concerns over my car breaking down and they looked for cancellations and they saw me next day. Brought my X1 for repair, my motion sensor which I damaged by accident just kept going off non stop. My lease dealer said that this is not covered within my extended warranty. If you have an old beemer like '95 E36 like I do, you probably have had some electrical problems. I was driving far from home, some fuse shorted and made the instrument cluster completely dead. Even worse, Anti-Theft got enabled somehow, so once I stopped the car didn't turn on. Towed to a nearby shop who did some rewiring work to bypass the EWS, also installed an used instrument cluster. 5 days later I picked up the car, but as soon as I drove back home it refused to turn on again. I called the shop, but instead of reworking under warranty, they offered me a refund. The shop was far anyways so I accepted it, and started to search a mechanic who really knows about electrical system of BMW. Unfortunately, since rewiring work was done, the most shops were reluctant to deal with my car. Even The M Shop had a policy not to take those cars. But The M Shop referred me to Meccanica, which is owned by Moises who used to be the head mechanic at the M for more than 10 years! (need I say more?) When I went there I was expecting to meet some 50 yrs. old or so, but surprised how young Moises is. He knows BMW inside out especially my model very well, and understood my attachment to this old car. His focus was to nail down the cause correctly then repair, while saving me money. When it comes to BMW electricals, getting to the bottom of the problem is necessary but not easy, which is why the 1st shop refunded me and the most didn't want to deal with. But at Meccanica, they have a passion for challenging projects - with genuine curiosity. Moises and his assistant Antonio are hard-working, professional, reliable, friendly and helpful... I feel fortunate that I found Meccanica, and I believe that in 10 years this shop will grow like The M Shop or even more. During the suggestion of related repairs, Moises was thorough with explanations of why they should be done, all of which made sense to me. No unnecessary repairs were pushed. 10/11/2019 - BMW X5 My X5 overheated & broke down in DTLA. Not wanting to take any repair chances, my 1st thought was to take it to the nearest auto dealership, but at the same time hesitated as my experiences with BMW dealerships haven't been the best. Thus, not wanting to end up paying through the nose with an astronomical bill, I searched for optional BMW repair shops in the area. Eventually I was referred to Meccanica by another top rated shop who were too busy to take me. I ended up having AAA tow my car to Meccanica, who accepted to diagnose my car. I dealt with Antonio, a very pleasant, kind, professional & knowledgeable young tech who accommodated my need to have my car diagnosed on the same day. Sure enough, as agreed they inspected my car & Antonio called me to go over the recommended repairs, part prices and labor cost & pleasantly answered all my questions. Once I gave the "Ok" my car was fixed the next day. The water pump was the main problem. Nonetheless, they recommended to replaced other related and adjacent parts that they observed were damaged. The intention was to avoid having to -later on- pay for another diagnostic & dedicated labor for the other repairs that were obviously needed to avoid another breakdown, as the mechanic was already working on the cooling system & area. I decided to trust them and went along with all recommendations made even thought the bill would obviously be higher, but who needs to end up with a broken car in the middle of the traffic again. When I picked up my car, Antonio had the bad parts at hand to show me & explain things. It all made sense. I was glad they checked beyond the apparent & obvious, was pleased they made the recommendations they did & ultimately was very pleased with their overall service attitude & performance. Nothing short from the services I have received at auto dealerships & way above other specialized small services shops I've used. Don't expect to see a flashy facade & a luxurious lounge or waiting area, or free coffee & donuts when you come to Meccanica (at least not yet). I Needed some work done on my '89 Jetta and was referred to this place by a friend of mine, and 5 stars isn't enough to show how good these guys are! Moises is a craftsman with vehicles and you can tell by the work and effort he does on your car. I asked Moises to do a full diagnosis on my car to help it drive more safely and effectively without shutting off on me every time I take it out... And man, after taking it back home it's like night and day. I was very happy to find Meccanica and now they are the first shop that I call when it comes to my Bmw e30. They diagnosed the coolant leak quickly and replaced the hoses necessary. Pep boys told me that the radiator needed to be replaced and put out an estimate of $900. I don't take my car to pep boys but my usual mechanic was booked for two weeks and I hadn't heard of meccanica yet. I will be taking my car back very soon for some necessary repairs. They are honest , reliable and very professional in their approach. I wish to keep them to myself so I can get an appointment when I call but it's unfair to all the people who have older bmws that should be aware of their services.
