He took the time to ask and eval if I was buying an daily driver, off-road vehicle or both and costs were all up front from his range to actual. He was clear if he wasn't sure and if a part cost would change pricing. He do that all over the phone and followed it up with pictures and an email quote. My previous mechanic, who was awesome, closed up shop for general automotive due to Covid. I have been anxious about where to take my car (2000 Toyota Camry) when the time came for service. That time finally came recently. While on the road, white smoke (which turned out to be steam) started coming out from under the hood, then of course, the engine started overheating. Shepard's Automotive was local to me, so I decided to give them a go. BEST DECISION EVER!!! I had my car towed to the shop, and from that point, the fellow who took care of me, Sam, was absolutely awesome! I know nothing about cars, so I always feel that I am at the mercy of the mechanic. When Sam called me to let me know what the issue was, he was very friendly, VERY patient with my many questions and concerns, and EXTREMELY knowledgeable. He really took care to insure that I understood everything that was being said to me, explaining what was wrong, what the cause was, what my car needed, why it needed it, the cost for everything mentioned, and the estimated time needed for the work. After our conversation, I felt completely comfortable with giving him the greenlight to proceed with the repairs. Sam kept me in the loop during each stage of the repairs. The service was very timely, and the cost of the parts and work was super reasonable. When I picked up my car, finally met Sam face-to-face, and he gave me the final run-down, I found that he really went above and beyond my expectations! I could not have been more pleased!!! Took my special edition 2003 Mazda Miata in for an oil check. Mechanic opened hood and made a quick diagnose, the oil leak was coming from the oil pan, and my radiator was also cracked. I didn't see any cracks. labor for oil leak, $1000.00, plus parts and replace radiator approximately $700.00. Decided on second opinion, got that from across the street. Asked for quote to fix same leak. labor here was $500.00, but before accepting work, they lifted car to determine exact location. After a thorough search, they found no leak. They explained it's an older car that isn't regularly used and they tend to leak. As long on the leak is minor, which it was, I shouldn't concerned. Having gotten 2 different opinions, I then got a third, fourth, and finally a fifth. The next three all agree with the second opinion. It's an old car that isn't used every day with a minor leak, no problem it's perfectly normal. Always better to get a second opinion!!! read more
