Off…read morecame two layers of shingles and one layer of original wood shake which had been there since 1898! New plywood, vapor barrier and all up to current standards, new vents and flashing. Removed an old ugly exhaust and while the ladders were present, one of those ugly satellite dishes from an era gone by! Mark had a great crew working this challenging project on a high pitch roof. They worked SAFE and swift and got the job done in an orderly fashion. Nice cleanup after. At first it seemed like they were doing a great job. All of the guys were friendly and seemed professional. They completed our roof and were coming back the next day to clean up the mess that was left in the yard. It rained overnight and I woke up to water coming in our bathroom heating vent. There was a huge water stain on the ceiling of our bedroom as well. They also used long nails which came through the ceiling of our front porch. They did come and snip off the nails so that was better. Mark wasn't super pleasant to work with after this point and would only take $200 off of the price because that is what it would cost to paint the ceiling, which was popcorn so just painting over it didn't seem like a great idea. They had to set up fans in the attic to help it dry out. Fast forward 6 years to last week. We had a great deal of rain, and I arrived home from work to find water dripping from our kitchen light fixture. We looked at the contract and realized there was only a five-year warranty. We should have been more cautious and gone with someone with a better warranty. Well, we had to climb up on the roof and found that the 'tar' around the exhaust fan pipe had shriveled and cracked. We were able to purchase some stuff at ACE and repair it ourselves. I do not recommend this company. We wish we had used someone more established.

Travis at Humboldt Renovation and Design is someone you can trust and gets the work done in a…read moretimely manner. I found Travis through the Yelp "My projects" section where I was trying to find a contractor to help us fix a leak in our guest bedroom. We couldn't find where the leak was coming from and I was trying to get price estimates from different contractors to solve the problem. Most of the contractors said they couldn't give a real estimate till they started doing the full project which seemed understandable. What stood out about Travis though is that he made the effort to say for $100 he would assess the issue by cutting out a piece of my drywall and give me a proper estimate. My fiancé and I were on board and happy to see someone take initiative like Travis. Travis then went on to find a pinhole leak in one of our old copper pipes and he right away gave us an estimate that was much more reasonable than other contractors we spoke with. Travis went on to fix our leaky pipes and found out that we replaced the wrong pipe. There was a pipe above the one we saw that was actually the cause of the leak. Travis messaged me and said that he would only charge for the additional pieces (no additional labor for his work), which was super generous and understanding of him. We got this repair done and out of the way in an efficient manner thanks to Travis' diligence. My fiance and I are now having Humboldt Renovation help us replace carpet in our house for "hardwood" vinyl, replacing our shower, and putting in a new dryer vent. I additionally want to add that I has also asked him to replace both of our garage door openers which we signed up to do and later on found out it was covered through our home warranty program. Even though I already signed for Travis to do the work, he was very understanding and let us get the repair done instead by our home warranty service. Humboldt Renovation and Design will be the only contractor we will be using around our house. He is a great person with a sweet family and does great work. Thank you Travis!!!

I was pleasantly surprised that the the owners of Humboldt Handyman responded to my email so quickly. I am thinking that all the handymen are quite busy after the earthquake. The owners came over to our house to assess the damage. The are professional and friendly. The following day they sent over a crew member who was very skilled, conscientious, and personable. He attached the bookcase to the wall quickly and confidently. I am very impressed with Humboldt Handyman. I will call them again if we have work for them. I enthusiastically recommend them!
