We paid $6,800 expecting a high-quality job, but what we got was an exhausting ordeal. From start to finish, the experience was riddled with issues that we had to identify and report ourselves--problems that any competent professional should have caught immediately. The quality of the work was shockingly bad. On day one, Liquid Nails glue was tracked across the floor, leaving visible shoe prints and hardened globs that were never properly cleaned. Many boards were cracked or splintered, and there uneven seams in the flooring because the lines weren't properly started, according to the contractors who later fixed the job. The subfloor wasn't leveled, causing high and low spots that ultimately required sanding. To make matters worse, the second contractor we hired to fix the mess pointed out that parts of the floor weren't nailed down properly particularly around the walls, and the nailing overall was insufficient. They also found numerous "H-joints," a hallmark of rushed and sloppy workmanship. The baseboards, which we paid $700 to have installed, were no better. They were nailed to drywall instead of studs and could be pulled off with minimal effort. Excessive caulk was used to cover gaps and poorly cut boards, and additional wood putty stains were left behind during their attempts at repairs. The lack of professionalism was equally disappointing. One of the installers loudly berated a younger worker to the point that both we and our neighbors could hear it. It was clear that no quality inspections were being done. We had to point out every issue ourselves, and the repair attempts they made often made things worse instead of better. Despite repeated complaints, the company failed to resolve the issues. The first repair attempt involved replacing one marked board and adjusting a seam, but they didn't clean the Liquid Nails residue, leaving even more wood putty stains in the process. A second installer tried twice to remove the glue but failed both times. In the end, we were offered either a board replacement or a "deep discount." The so-called "deep discount" only covered the cost of repairs and felt like a minimal gesture given the extent of the issues. Our best decision was taking the repairs out of their hands. The professionals who took over spent time explaining all the issues and were shocked at the poor workmanship. I regret not hiring them in the first place because, in the end, we'll never get the finish we initially wanted, and there are issues with the floor we're just going to have to live with. Save yourself the frustration and hire someone else. Arcata ProFloor's lack of quality control, unprofessional behavior, and resistance to taking accountability--offering only the bare minimum to address their mistakes--make them impossible to recommend. What should have been a simple project turned into weeks of stress, nights spent sleeping in my office, and deep disappointment.

Not only does he do…read moreexcellent, conscientious work, but he shows up when he says he will, and responds promptly when contacted. This spring (2024), Josh "refreshed" my kitchen (a mini-remodel), meticulously refinishing the cabinets (not an easy job when they're still in place) and installing the tile backsplashes himself. He coordinated with the specialists who created and installed the new cabinet doors, countertops, and flooring. During the process, he would double-check with me to see if the work met with my approval. He did all the "finish" work of reinstalling the sink, lights, and electrical plugs, and doing patchwork on the plaster where needed. He was prepared to paint, but that was something I chose to do myself. I am so pleased with the results. Josh was careful to prevent sanding dust from getting into the rest of the house, and tidied up after each day's work. He cheerfully accepted some change order tasks that popped up during the kitchen work, such as repairing my nearly 20 year-old on-demand water heater that started leaking. That job took a few tries, so he returned a couple of times when he had a moment to replace yet another aging O-ring. If his repair work didn't work, he was prepared to replace the water heater with a new unit as soon as he was able. Although a remodel is never cheap, I thought that Josh's price was more than fair, especially in these days of high inflation. I am sure there are other fine contractors in the area, but Josh's combination of excellent work, reliability, and positive attitude place him at the top of my list. I recommend that more people hire him and treat him well, so he stays in the area a good long time.

We couldn't be happier with Josh's work and work ethic. He is a perfectionist and very conscientious. He makes the best use of his time, and when he arrives he really cranks out the work. We highly recommend Josh for any type of construction project that you have. He is a real find!

This is so disappointing and not the first experience I was hoping for as a new home owner. My partner and I just bought a home at the end of September. We hired Joe based on previous recommendations. We had him in to do the floors before anything was moved in to make it easy. I helped with the previous floor removal as we were on a time crunch and he was squeezing me in between other jobs (should've known). When he came in after the original floor removal, he did an assessment of the sub-flooring and said everything was fine. I told him I wanted brand new floors that turned this old house into the gem it was meant to be. I wanted something to last 30+ years. This wasn't a cheap install either. Fast forward to the last day when he was "finished". I took a look around our brand new home only to notice the fine details not being met and my floors creaking and moving as we walk on them. When I asked about the movement he told me that we didn't have flat sub flooring so it was the houses fault. Not once did he mention this would be a thing during the week he took to install, so you can imagine my surprise when he said it was finished! Then I took a look around to notice all of my brand new baseboards floating off the wall as well as pieces not cut to the right size, so he "made do" with what he had. I asked him about the baseboards and why they look like that for him to reply that my walls are the problem. He also told me once I put furniture in the house, I wouldn't even notice it. I have tried to get ahold of him for months now as he didn't finish the flooring under the water heater and said he would come back to finish that when it was replaced (it was replaced in February and I haven't heard from him since). I also have a hole in the floor for a vent cover that he didn't cut to a standard size so I can't find a vent cover for the hole in the ground. To say this experience was a nightmare is an understatement. And the worst part is, he won't return my calls or admit to any of the mess ups he has done so I am left with no choice but to post this post for everyone else to be warned. Sad thing is I see many good reviews, which makes me wonder that because I am young and a female, if he took advantage of me and what we had going on at the time. Overall if he couldn't get the job down in the time he said, he should've communicate. If my subfloors were bumpy and going to cause the floating and movement, I would've wanted to fixed and that should've been communicated. And if the walls are wavy and the baseboard didn't sit flush, I would've expected caulk and more nails! Overall I would give him a 0 star review...do not recommend.
