My uncle needed to retire his vehicle so he was referred to https://www.bar.ca.gov/. After we submitted everything and they approved it, this was the designated place that he needed to drop his vehicle off for his check. I called ahead to ask if the took walk-in's or appointments. I was told walk's 8am-3:30pm and come to the window. So we arrived at 2:30pm but this place was spread down the entire street and it was very confusing on where to go since all of them had the same company name until we were finally directed to the last one where the "Buy" sign was right above the door and not by the lot entrance. I was confused since I thought there was going to be a transaction window but I see an open door and 2 barred up windows. So I popped into the door to ask where can I get help. They tell me to wait outside and the barred window to the left is where we'll be helped. The clerk said there's 2 people ahead of us so she'll be right with us. It turned out, it was only one person ahead of us that was retiring his vehicle too. So it takes her about 30-45 mins to process each person's vehicle retirement. We had all our paperwork ready and she asked for the current mileage and my husband was at another car near my uncle's car so we asked him to look. But the guy ahead of us was running back and forth from his car so it took longer. After waiting for an hour or so, my uncle signed over his vehicle, got his check, and we left. Thank god for that cause those people were rude and could care less about you waiting forever. read more

I called and asked if they had any Buick Regals in the 1980's. They said they had a 1978 at another one of their yards, so I went. When I got there, there was parking and a taco truck in the parking lit (how convenient!). I asked for the vehicle I was looking for, and was given a location. I went for a walk. Soon I found the car I was looking for and also another G-Body, an '84 Cutlass. I pulled a few parts from each that I felt I could use, and the total was only $61! Wow, what a bargain! Everyone there was helpful and busy working. I was delighted at the parts I found, their quality, and the price for them. In general, prices for parts seem to be cheaper at LKQ but you have to be willing to put in the work. Don't expect much in terms of help. You'll need to go on the website and determine if they have a compatible donor car for the parts you need. Even then, there's no guarantee that: 1) The car hasn't already been stripped of the part you need. or 2) That part wasn't destroyed by another customer in an attempt to remove the part that they need. Once your get your part and bring it to the front to pay, you'll find that the base price of items is generally lower than the competition. However, they also nickel and dime you for everything. You want any semblance of a warranty? That's extra. You want the bulb socket that comes with the tail lights? Extra. The old light bulb already in the socket? Extra. All of this is on top of the $2 entry fee to get into the yard, whether you buy anything or not. Still, part of me likes the feeling of being able to walk around the yard on your own. It's like part junky car museum, part scavenger hunt. You just need to set your expectations appropriately before going there and you'll be ok. read more

I needed a small fuel injector part for, which I was able to find. After I paid for the part, I noticed that they charged me for the warranty that I did not want. That's pretty SHADY of them to do that. If you neeed to get a part for your car, here's some advice: 1. Thoroughly check their website and determine if they carry the car that your are looking for. 2. Check the date when the car was made available so that you can make an educated guess that the car might still have the part that you are looking for. 3. Bring the right tools with you to take out the part, including pry bars and hammers. 4. Find out the anticipated price that you will pay using the LKQ website. 5. At checkout when you pay for the parts, CHECK YOUR RECEIPT to make sure you were not CHARGED for the warranty (if you did not want it). 6. Be patient. You'll need to scour the lot for the car that you are looking for, and the checkout window can be quite long (they need more cashiers). 7. Don't try to steal any parts. The guys at the exit check your stuff for any parts that you may be hiding from them. read more

IF and only if you are willing to do your homework before you go here, then perhaps you can: 1) Find the part you want 2) Buy it at a fair price Be sure you are handy and bring your own tools. Try and find a video on youtube that deals with removing the part, do this ahead of time so that there are no surprises. Wear boots and gloves. You *MUST* print out the price list from the website and bring it with, or you will get scalped. Remember that the warranty can be declined, but you must specifically state that you do not with to purchase the warranty. Remember the first quote they give you has a lot of extras added. Don't be a sucker. Know what you are buying and how much it should be. You need to argue with them. In my opinion, this place operates on the outskirts of ethical behavior. Everyone who enters pays. No backpacks. If you have one they check before and after. Dudes here were nice though. If you are looking for a specific model car they can look it up to save you admission fee. Its a DIY place. You remove stuff yourself. If you don't have your very own 20V impact cordless wrench you really need to invest on one. They run about $270 at Home Depot. It makes removing car parts a breeze. I don't know why my friend recommended me to go to this place, especially since I hated the Oceanside one. I decided to haul myself here after breaking the front interior handle of my car; personally I would've saved more money if I bought the handle on ebay. What irritates me is the $2 fee to get in. It seems like a good deal if you buy a lot of parts, but super irritating if you can't find what you need (which is exactly what happened). As it turns out, I'm not the only Toyota who has issues with the front door...practically all the Toyotas there had missing front door parts. Most of the people that were there were older men who probably peruse this place frequently to buy parts and sell them for markup up. Most don't speak English. The guy at the front thought I was Hispanic/Latina and spoke to me in Spanish but immediately used broken English when he realized I couldn't understand him. I'm Asian, although I'm sometimes mistaken for being Latin because of my dark skin...I don't understand that as I don't think I look anywhere near Hispanic. A couple things I learned: - Don't go here if you drive an "economy" car like a Toyota, Honda, etc. Why? Because most people drive those cars and therefore, there'll be less parts available. - Do go here if if you drive a luxury car, esp. if it's a Lexus or Mercedes. However, I speculate that individuals driving those cars would never resort to coming here. Anyway, I was irritated and left...went to the dealer down the street and sucked it up and paid $50ish for the part I needed. Did I get ripped off? I guess. As some of my friends know, I'm all for instant gratification ("waiting" is not in my vocabulary) and I can't drive without an essential part my car needs. At least Toyota Chula Vista gave me what I wanted. My car handle is shiny mint and working for now, no thanks to Ecology Auto! read more

Save yourself the trouble and go to ANY other junk yard / pick-your-part. Unfortunately the staff at checkout was fully incompetent and gave prices that made no sense. They negotiated the price down with the person in front of me, yet told me "we don't bargain here" when I was next and let them know Tapatio has the same tail light for $32 less (thinking I would get it cheaper if I went to pull it off the car here). I also wanted a a single cup holder shell, which they didn't know how to price, so they decided on $21 and wouldn't move on the price. It's a shame it's filled with such thieves. These guys are the worst swindlers in the business! Dont go here unless you want to be robbed. Pulled a rear view mirror and a windshield washer pump. Price seemed high at $46 w/tax, asked for an itemized breakdown he said one was $26+ the other $14+. I was there and needed em so paid it. Get to my car and look at receipt, almost $10 was added on warranties. Worse, the prices without the warranties were about 33% higher than those listed on the website. I came here a few times about 20 years ago and each time had similarly dishonest treatment, had hoped a new name might mean a change in ethics. I wont be back and will tell everyone who listens what their business practices are. Save the time and frustration, you can get the same parts much cheaper on ebay delivered to your door and it seems like the high demand parts are stripped off the cars before they even hit the yard. This location is very expensive. Buy your part from different junk yard like Tapatio is cheaper and you will save your time. I went there a couple of times. The cashier always has long line to wait. Prices are expensive for example i went there to get buttom rear seat for kia forte 2013. After looking for the car unassembled thr part then waiting on line. They wanted to charge me over 50 dollars!!! I left the seat there and i got it from tapatio for 40 dollars ( save time and money)... i do not recommend this place. read more

I had gone here for parts for my Cadillac and found everything I wanted so I went to the checkout and the lady told me the total was $100 and the bag check guy looked at my receipt and said I had no warranty so he didn't mark anything. when I got home I noticed they charged me for $175 in my bank account so I go back the next day to see what's up and they charged me for the warranty that I told them I didn't want. after asking for my money back they said they need to see the parts. I don't know why they need to see the parts when I have a receipt they can just take the warrantee price off and give me my money back. I told them I live an hour away so take me two hours plus the hour I spent getting here in the first place to go get them. also when the cashiers bring up items sometimes they will ring up an item that cost more than the one you got or put things on there that you didn't get like I got two relays and five fuses they charged me for five relays and five fuses the five relays cost me $37 plus their "WanTEe".so if you want to get scammed out of your money this is the perfect place for you to go. PS if you buy headlights or anything with a light bulb in it they charge you the price of a brand new lightbulb even if you're getting it off of a 40 year old car read more

AWFUL CUSTOMER SERVICE I was referred here by another company who brokered selling a used car of mine. They set met up with an appointment for 8am-11am on Saturday. By 9:30 on Saturday I had not heard anything at all from LKQ, and called in to check on the status of my appointment. I was told to call back in 30 minutes to get connected to a dispatcher if I had not heard anything by 10am. 10am comes and goes and I spent 20 minutes on hold only to get connected to a dispatcher who says "well it's not 11am yet so you can't complain" and that she will call me back in 30 minutes to update me on the status of the tow. She never called me back. So I call the company AGAIN, never having received ANY information regarding any delay or challenge in fulfilling the agreement and appointment THEY confirmed. I finally talk to a supervisor of a call center who says she will reach out to the dispatcher to find out what is going on. They tell me that a driver is still 15 minutes away from the yard (it's already 11am at this point) and that he would be heading out to me next. Additionally, this call center manager cuts me off and says "it's not our fault that one of our drivers called out and we're working with three drivers when we should have seven". Actually ma'am, it absolutely is your responsibility and the LEAST you could do is notify your customers that you're not going to be honoring the commitment you made and are going to completely waste peoples time and wreck schedules. Again, I was never notified by this company that they were running late. I literally called the company four times for updates and there's still no guarantee that a driver will show up today. WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND USING THIS SERVICE. They are rude and disrespectful and will absolutely waster your time. read more

Stereotype me as being a "woman driver" but everyone makes mistakes. My mistake was destroying the front end of my car at a stop light when I thought the light had turned green when really it was still red and I rear ended a Tundra. My poor little Corolla all mangled up pulled into the nearest parking lot looking like well, it just got it's face smashed in. Luckily my husband is a car miracle worker and told me not to fear that we could replace my busted up hood and front end with a little help from our friends at Ecology. Fast forward a weekend later to where I go to my first junk yard. Who would have thought that on my way to concerts at Coors Amphitheater that there were hoards of junk yards on the hills nearby? Ladies, if you go with your man wrap yourself in a burlap sack because the skeezy Mexican guys will look at you like you are a dancer at Little Darlings Strip Club. Creepers aside, I was very impressed with the organization and size of this place! The Toyota section led a variety of cars in far worse condition than the one I mangled and tangled up. Want to change the color of your car and put a Hodge podge of parts on it? Take a screwdriver and it can be yours! It made me sad to see the cars out of service due to who knows what reason and wonder what the story of them was of how they got here. Since it is a pick your own part kind of place, make sure you have on some coveralls or super nasty old clothes that you don't care about getting destroyed because you'll do a lot of laying on the ground. Just make sure when you need new parts for your car that it isn't right after a rainstorm with a bunch of mud puddles that would make any swine happy. While we found a couple of parts for my car we didn't get all of them but Ecology definitely helped out getting my baby back on the road! read more

I wish I could give 0 stars. I asked the employee at the entrance if they had any Scions inside. Attendant said he didn't know, but Toyotas (Scion parent) are by the light post. It's $2 to get in. There was posted a sign, Enter at Own Risk. First of all, because of the recent rain, my feet sunk into the dirt and clay lot. I changed into shoes I planned would get somewhat dirty, but now these would take time to clean. Cost is adding up. That would have been all good if they had a single Scion car, any model, on the lot. None. When I returned to the entrance 4 minutes later and asked for help to find Scion, if they had any, they said, "whatever's there." Now, come on. As employees day, after day on this lot, somebody sees what comes and goes. Hundreds of like questions are asked daily. You can't help save me some time? You can't help save me $2? You can't return the $2 when I come back in less than 5 minutes because you don't have a single Scion on the lot? I used to go here a lot, it's been about 3 years. They had lots of Scions. It's a foreign car pick and pull. Do not waste your time, or money at Ecology Auto Parts Foreign. Instead, when you come up Nirvana Ave, make a left on Energy Way, and then a right at the end.
