Another great stop at this huge LL Bean! Lots of free parking. I really everything about this store, from customer service, to our smores. Everyone was pretty helpful, so don't get overwhelmed with all the goodies. There are several floors to see inside, also they have a home store close by. LL Bean has alot of high performance nice quality items, so bring your pocketbook. There is quite abit of items to view outside. There are several stores outside for refreshments and cool downs. In the summer there are live concerts outside on the lawn area. If pricing is to expensive to your liking, they do have an outlet across the street. I've visited this store several times and always had a positive experience--until today. I was surprised by the number of dogs inside, many of which were not service animals and gave off a strong, unpleasant odor. While I love dogs (I've rescued many myself), I don't think it's unreasonable to expect a clean, fresh-smelling shopping environment, especially in a store like L.L. Bean, where prices reflect a certain standard. Unfortunately, I found dog hair on the merchandise, which isn't something I would expect from a premium retailer. I truly hope L.L. Bean will reconsider its policy on pets in stores. As much as I appreciate dogs, I believe customers should be able to shop comfortably without dealing with the issues that come with bringing pets into retail spaces. L.L. It was so fun to visit the flagship store in Maine. The staff was very friendly and helpful and the store was very clean, organized and well stocked. I especially loved the home store which had lots of really fun and well crafted items I did not know they sold. The campus is under some construction atm so I wasn't able to get the full vibe of the campus but another time. It's well worth the visit. read more

As soon as you enter, there is an employee directing customers and even more employees assisting you once you get to your destination. I do not own LL Bean products, but still wanted to see the company store. It is everything LL Bean. The grounds are large and there is an area for concerts and entertainment, Ben and Jerry's and several large buildings with specific products, I.e. home, boating etc. The store is open 24 hours . It was interesting to walk around the store, look at the many displays and all the merchandise. It is definitely something to see. read more

Not the company that I so loved. Stopped buying most everything around the time of the shift in how they handle returns/warranty issues. Bought graphite hiking poles, wife hiked with them, they fell apart. Will not replace or help out (Just over one year bought). Leon Leonwood Bean would roll over in grave. LL bean no longer stands behind there shoes. They offered to send them back to me, or discard them. Because of this I no longer shop at LL Bean. LL Bean, you were once the place to go for quality backpacks and fleeces. Now you are basically an outdoorsy Kohls. The latest quality makes me understand why you stopped offering lifetime guarantee and made it one year. I sent photos of a fleece to see if the zipper could be replaced. I was told that it could. I spend $20 in shipping following your directions in your email, only to have it shipped back to be told that you do not repair fleeces. Why ask for detailed pictures and assure me it can be done if this is your policy? Waste of time and money. read more

This is the first time I've felt like writing a review. I was trying to buy some chino pants on-line from LL Bean. Here is a copy of my comments to them just now, 6:50 p.m., Nov. 5, 2023: You almost lost a sale!! I was on my page with the woman's socks my wife wanted, but could not see how to add the socks to the shopping bag with my Chinos already in it. No where on this page could I actually find a button to "ADD TO BAG,"after a long back and forth and ready to forget the whole thing, I noticed the picture of the socks something like "quick view" under it. Turns out I needed to click on the SOCKS PICTURE to get to the page where I could proceed to buy the order. Who would have guessed. glad I did as I cooled off fairly quickly. We pass Freeport fairly often on our way from Camden, where we live, to points south and have been fairly regular customers. This store is gigantic! I was honesty surprised with the wide selection, literally everything you need to enjoy the outdoors. LL Bean is in the pricier side, but the quality of their product is excellent. We had a lovely conversation with the cashier who gave us some great tips for lunch in the area. I don't understand what's not to like. One of the most reliable companies in America and there is an entire campus dedicated to selling all their goods in one convenient spot. Every time we visit Portland we make the short drive up to Freeport to get our Bean fix on. If you are a fan of LL Bean it's a no brainer to get to Freeport and indulge. read more

This really isn't about L.L Bean's store or products. The store/s are really nice, esp the flagship here in Freeport. Their products are 2nd to none. This is about their Summer Concert Series. Free. Variety of acts. We went up for the Indigo Girls with Brandi Carlile. Great show under the stars-wonderful way to spend a summer evening in Maine. Bean makes it easy with parking at their factory lot and shuttle buses running to the event site-overall a well planned event. Food at the event was reasonable and decent. Of course there are quite a few restaurants around as well. Or stop at Wild Oats right off 295 in Portland and grab picnic fixin's. Bring your lawn chairs or stake out some folding chairs early if you want good seats. Its a new Beans. They recently updated their return/exchange policy, wasn't sure if I could return the shorts I bought but never wore last year. Line was short even on a "late" (ca 9 am) visit. My wife and I ordered a canoe as a Christmas present to each other. We didn't order it until December 12th so had very low expectations that our canoe would make it all the way from Maine to Southern California by Christmas. Bean has made efforts to keep up with trends, but their efforts have not been successful on the whole. Their expensive "Signature" brand is not in particularly good taste, and very, very few items they sell are produced in Maine or the US--an important selling point for them previously. Bean has also made unhappy choices in their credit card server, and their new server Citibank is about the worst they could have done. Citibank is in the midst of trying to defraud me, as it has defrauded many other card holders. Google Citibank credit cards reviews online and see for yourself. read more

Update: I worked my way up through management at LL Bean. I am happy to report, LL Bean came up with a personalized solution. It was more effort than I would normally want to spend on registering for a class, but in the end, they accommodated us. My son and I will both attend the map & compass class for 50% off (thereby paying for 1 person), a fair and "non-box like" resolution. End update. I've loved LL Bean my whole life. I've shopped there and taken their Discovery classes, attended outdoor concerts, my kids even attended their summer camp. I've stuck with them even as their product quality deteriorated and prices rose. I used to buy Beans without price checking other places because I knew they'd stand by their product. This too has gone by way of the dodo. Today I called them because (1) My daughter and I previously took their intro to map and compass course; (2) one is required to take this course before taking the field course; (3) my 10 yo son wants to take the intro course so he can join my daughter and I for the field course; (4) a child may not take the course without a paying parent in the class. I asked if I could sit in the class with him. They were inflexible with an emphatic "no". I must pay for the course for myself again for him to be able to attend. No exceptions. My beloved LL Bean has become just another box store. Bummer. I hope Beans culture will improve in the future, but until then, I sadly intend to seek out alternatives to Beans going forward. read more
