Meanwhile, several other employees were standing around on their phones or joking with each other instead of helping. I felt bad for the one woman doing her best to handle an impossible situation by herself. It was disappointing to see such a lack of teamwork. When there's a line that long, everyone should be pitching in to help customers and support their coworker. Instead, it seemed like nobody cared. If Staples is going to accept Amazon returns, they need to staff appropriately or have employees step up when it's busy. This experience was a huge waste of time and left a very poor impression.

In NYS it's illegal to charge more than $2 to notarize a document unless it's a remote notary (which is not what this was). I mentioned to her that I was also a notary & knew the laws & regulations, so instead of doing the right thing & accepting my $2 payment, she ripped up the document, so now I have to go back home and reprint the document in hopes of finding someone today to sign it. This nonsense that she replies with on her Google & Yelp reviews about this being a service or convenience fee -- you can't charge an additional fee on a notary service! "A notary public may charge a fee of $2.00 for administering an oath or affirmation or for taking an acknowledgment or proof of execution. UNLESS OTHERWISE AUTHORIZED BY LAW, A NOTARIAL FEE MAY NOT EXCEED THIS AMOUNT." Every lawyer I've spoken to has conquered that is 100% illegal to charge additional fees. I get it, running a business is expensive and it can take years to actually turn a profit. But that's just part of owning a business.
