We split a salad that was big enough for a meal, my wife had the bolognese, and I had the steak. It was super rare, but as I cut into it, I would lay it onto the stone to allow it to cook a bit more. I like it on the lean side of medium rare and my wife prefers a bit more. This was perfect for us to both enjoy it the way we like. Her pasta was excellent as well and we enjoyed sharing the meal. A bottle of wine topped off a great dinner. The weather was rainy so we opted to sit inside and it was warm and welcoming. Our waiter was helpful with our choices and we enjoyed his observations. The only thing I can say that was off, was the older woman who was paying her bill before me was pressured into leaving a tip ( service charge, is what he said). I was prepared for that but was not asked to tip. Great meal, we enjoyed it immensely, but the service charge that was scammed out of the 70+ year old lady in front of me kind of left a sour taste in my mouth. I was going to tip a few euros because we enjoyed ourselves so much, but decided not to because of the way it was presented to the party before us.

We had a calzone and traditional spaghetti and both were delicious. I don't even know how to describe the calzone. It was unlike anything I've had before but SO good. I literally cleaned my plate with the last of the breading from it. The owner/chef was Luca. He was upset with the host because he had burned the plastic on the outdoor tent as he had placed a heater too close to it. To be honest, he seemed like a bit of a jerk, but his food was freaking delicious.

I first experienced Osteria da…read moreFortunata when I visited Rome in 2018 and knew I wanted to come back during my most recent trip. There is a restaurant on the same corner with the same name so make sure you end up at the right place. There is always a woman in the front window rolling out fresh pasta so you know it's legit. This place is very popular so you should expect to have to wait in a line outside for a table, trust me it is worth it. The waitstaff keeps things moving and are very organized so just be patient. I ordered an Aperol Spritz and water for drinks. The cocktail was a nice size, well balanced, and I loved the branded glass. It was very hot outside so appreciated the cold drinks and AC units. We also ordered a side of bread to share, which of course comes with olive oil and balsamic, so we could soak up every ounce of the delicious pasta sauces. The bread crust was crispy and warm and inside soft, perfect. So many pasta options on the menu. Every dish I have tried has been spectacular, but I decided to get the Carbonara again as it was my favorite last time. The sauce is rich and decedent, the noodles are a thicker type and perfectly al dente, and the pancetta and cheese on top adds lovely saltiness. It's so satisfying. You will be full after you devour every bite so you don't need the Second course. We couldn't even do dessert. Osteria da Fortunata has multiple locations and open late, so I highly recommend you try them when visiting Rome. This is a town of amazing food, but here really just hits the spot!

Very Disappointing Experience - Osteria da Fortunata, Pantheon Location…read more We have visited Rome several times and have eaten at Osteria da Fortunata della Cancelleria on Via della Cancelleria. During our previous visits, we had excellent experiences with both the food and the customer service, which is why tonight's experience was especially disappointing. We ordered the carbonara and spaghetti, and unfortunately, the pasta was undercooked, very chewy, and cold. It was not at all the quality we had experienced during our previous visits. When we asked the waiter to take the carbonara back because it was not edible, his attitude was extremely disappointing. Rather than offering to replace the dish or addressing our concern professionally, he told us that the manager had approved it and that we could simply take the food home. What made the experience even worse was the atmosphere of this location. The restaurant felt more like a factory than an authentic Italian dining experience. We noticed the staff using walkie-talkies to communicate with the host, and as soon as customers left their tables, the waiter would communicate with the host to immediately send new customers in to fill the space. It gave us the impression that the priority was turning tables over as quickly as possible rather than providing guests with a pleasant dining experience. The constant rush was noticeable and took away from what should have been an enjoyable meal in Rome. It is very unfortunate because we have visited Osteria da Fortunata several times in the past and genuinely enjoyed both the food and the service. Tonight, however, the cold and poorly cooked pasta, the attitude of the waiter, and the rushed, factory-like atmosphere made this a very disappointing experience.

We explored the area more and found the highest rated restaurant in that area with 80k reviews! I bothered a couple eating there and they were not impressed with their dinner also. Then where do we get good authentic Italian food?? In our frustration I started asking any locals I can find. This young lady spoke enough English to let us know. She even had to call her friend for the location and name. It was not busy. The staff is older and looks like part of the good fellas cast. The decor looks like it too. Haha what an adventure. We were full from previous meal so only order two dish. Rigatoni democratic and seafood risotto . Omg this is it!! So delicious and tastes authentic . We took a picture with the owner I think and I told him he must be famoso! There were pics on the walls.
