These guys are in it for themselves, not for the customer. As a first time home buyer, I had a lot of questions, but throughout the process my voice mails were never returned (I assume because my loan wasn't big enough for him to waste his time). I literally had to walk into the office and hope the broker was there in order to get answers to my questions. When he was, I will admit, he would spend a good amount of time with me, although the conversation always seemed a bit contrived and sale-sy. Every conversations ended with a shameless plug - 'hey, if you know of anyone looking to buy a home, don't hesitate to send them our way. Word of mouth is our greatest form of advertisement!'. I understand the importance of recommendation, but you have to earn the right to ask someone to recommend you, which they never did. Looking back, I got a crappy rate, had a lot of unanswered questions and feel like I got taken advantage of by a man who is looking to sell as many loans as possible at the highest rate he can get away with. I was referred to Eric Heinrich by a friend and am very happy that I got the introduction! It's tough finding a mortgage broker who you can trust (and I'm a very skeptical person...). There are so many mortgage brokers out there and I just want someone who can have my best interest in mind. I need them to be smart, but not pushy. I need them on a drop of a dime because of the competitive market in Boston and also need them to be a good communicator. Eric is all of that and much more. Buying my first home was an intimidating process and having a sounding board who can think through the process strategically can help to ease the anxiety! We went through a few offers with Eric and one offer in particular demonstrates how good Eric is. A long story short, part of a condo didn't have permits on an addition that the sellers did 2 years ago. Eric helped my wife and I sort our thoughts out and the potential risks involved. He walked through the pros/cons so that we were well informed and could help to make the appropriate decision. We ended up not putting a bid on the condo because the cons far out weighed the pros. I was glad that I had Eric. He ended up stepping in and advise something against his own personal incentives. It was not only the right thing to do but he earned my trust and this review. As a first time homebuyer, I used Mortgage Master for my loan, as was recommended to me by my realtor. I have to say I'd never use them again. They were great before we signed on to use them. They answered every question in detail, were great at getting back to me by phone and email, and really gave me excellent service. The application meeting took 3 hours and we had to give information we had already provided a second time, which is not a big deal, but took a lot of time. We got all of our questions answered, which was great. After that point, they were totally unresponsive and took weeks to respond to emails and phone calls. As nervous buyers, we wanted to ensure our loan was all set. We didn't hear for sure until late the night before we were set to close. We did close on time, but everything did end up working out in the end. During the final days before closing, we were asked for the same documents as many as 6 times. I kept forwarding emails back to them with the same information, what a waste of time! I basically spent my entire days at work the week before we closed dealing with these guys. read more

I can't speak for anyone else but I'll give as many stars as I possibly can for Rosella. I've now used her for an acquisition financing 5 years ago and two refinancings since. She is always responsive and I know that if I have any questions regarding interest rates and when to refinance, I can always give her a call. 5 years ago when I first bought my condo, I needed to get 85% refinancing during a time when the only loans that I could find was 80% max. Let me just start by saying Paul Janosik is the Fairy Godmother of first-time homebuyers. I approached a number of financial institutions to finance my first condo through Boston's BRA affordable housing initiative, which means the condos are subsidized and deed-restricted (you can only resell them for a certain amount to assure they remain affordable)... Aside from also being a first time homebuyer, I'm a self employed artist and business owner and have basically no assets, so no lender wanted to give me the time of day, nevermind answer my questions or treat me with respect. Many places required a first-time homebuyer's class, but by the time I was putting in an offer the time frame was too late to schedule and take the classes to be able to buy my dream home. That all changed with Paul! Aside from a super quick and painless pre-approval process, Paul was on call with super fast response times (pretty much always same day) to answer every single question I had about the home buying process... Many of which were surely out of his jurisdiction (and would have probably been answered in the classes which mortgage master does not require) and did the legwork to figure out and answer any question I had that he didn't know the answers to. I never had an unclear moment on what I could afford, where my money was going or what I was signing up for. Working with Paul is like having a super knowledgeable, enthusiastic cheerleader rooting you on in buying a home. I have another self-employed friend who has been thinking about buying a condo, who after my encouragement and recommendation to go see Paul is now putting in offers on her first home as well. Buying a home through a city department, you have to deal with a LOT of busy, lazy, unknowledgeable, rude and uncaring "professionals"... If everyone in the process was as friendly and helpful as Paul people of my generation wouldn't be so afraid to stop renting and buy property for themselves. There is a reason why people use the phrase " everything happens for a reason". In this case Yauvan Kumar happened. THE WORST of just about everything. The one thing they are outstanding about is sending out monthly statements. But paying taxes from escrow? Horrific. Resolving questions? Might as well talk to your sofa as you'll get a better and faster answer. Following through on promises? Utterly non-existant. Intentionally mispresenting closing costs to make the loan look less expensive? Experts at that. The ONLY way I was able to get them to act and prevent a foreclosure due to a tax bill they had failed to pay was to openly threaten to sue them in Superior Court. I reminded them that I am attorney and that I would not only name the company and its officers, I'd also personally name in the suit each and every person I had any communication with (I kept great records of my contacts with them.) Not surprisingly, that credible threat resolved a problem they willfully ignored through three months of me politely reaching out to them. Shop around for a private mortgage broker. Companies like Loan Depot and Rocket Morrgage are scam artists. read more

Anyone applying for a mortgage knows how stressful the process is, however with the help of both Yauvan and Grettel I was able to make it through the process fairly painfree! No matter the time or day, I could call/email both Yauvan and Grettel and they were available to assist me. Avoid this company and the people they employ. My husband and I were referred to one of their brokers, Deb O'Rourke. She came HIGHLY recommended through a good friend. My friend claims that this particular broker writes the most mortgages in the country. Well, if that's true, good for her. As far as we're concerned, she cares about nothing but herself and the bottom line. I first made contact with her in early September of 2012. She was very responsive reeling off numbers and figures and letting me know she would be happy to work with us on our refi. Well, after that initial call, she punted me to a woman who I never spoke to or met. Without getting into every detail of this nightmare, nearly 5 months later, we get a closing date and are finally ready to end this fiasco. In the meantime, I had gone out on medical leave from my job and then ended up resigning at the end of the year. She called me 5 days before the closing, gave me a brief lecture on not letting her know that I had resigned from my job, and then told me she would have to call me back and let me know if we still qualified based just on my husband's salary. I completely understood the process, and if it didn't go through, well so be it. I am not an irrational person. This is where my anger comes in: she didn't have the decency to call me back. I called her the day before we were supposed to close to ask if we were going ahead with the refi or not. She never called me back and I have not heard from her since. Welcome to the new America where good customer service is rare, compassion takes a back seat to the bottom line, and some people are just all about themselves. I'm sure at this point, all the piles of paperwork we have sent to this company were shredded the moment this woman heard I was between jobs. There are so many options and competition in obtaining a mortgage or refinancing. DO NOT use Mortgage Masters. read more
